Hi Chucky, Thank you for your question regarding the Tefal Avanti Elite Toaster. The timing on the toaster is based on the desired toasting level you select on the toaster as per below: Select your desired toasting level

depending on the type and freshness of

your bread by pressing the browning

control button. The selected level will

appear on the screen

1-2: very lightly toasted

3-4: moderately toasted bread

5-6: well browned bread

7-8: very well browned bread

9: dark browned bread
