Seems fine when driving but when blades are engage it begins to splatter out while driving eventually cutting out.
i have a 2005 toro wheel horse xl 440h lawn tractor which i bought new. could you please explain how i can sort out "setting the hight of the cut, to raise the height of the cut. thank you so much. john w. australia.
Hi John, the XL440 height of cut can be adjusted between 25mm and 100mm using the Height of cut leaver of the left hand side of the operators platform. If you are having difficulty with this control, your local Toro dealer can assist with servicing and repairs.
I have a Toro xl 16hp when I try and start it it will click have replaced battery have also checked that the engine spins to a point where it will stop. If you wind the motor back the starter will spin it to the same point then you have to push it quite a bit.any idea what it could be
Hi Liam, it is very difficult to diagnose this type of issue without physically seeing it. It does sound like something is stopping the engine turning over, this could be as simple as debris in the starter mechanism or as serious as a failure within the engine. I would suggest you contact your local Toro dealer to book in an inspection.
Thanks could it be the valves as I was talking to a bush mechanic and he said check piston or valves
I have a Toro XL-440H with a worn out Briggs and Stratton 31F777 engine. I also have a Kawasaki FH430 V twin engine from a Husqvarna. Will the Kawasaki V twin fit into the Toro without too many modifications?
Toro ride on. Engine will not engage even though starter motor spinning over and all else Oil level, filter, belts are ok
Hi Shirley, if the starter is spinning but the motor isn't, the problem could be the starter drive, if the motor is turning over but not firing it could be an electrical/ignition or carburetor/fuel issue. If you contact your local Toro dealer they should be able to book you in to have a look at your mower.
Engine stops when cutter engaged
Hi Mark The Safety Interlock system will prevent the cutters being engaged if it is unsafe to do so. It sounds like there is an issue in the electrical system, maybe a switch or a connection. I suggest you contact your local Toro dealer to arrange repairs.

Hi Lloyd, these machines are fitted with a Hydrostatic transaxle, diagnosis of issues with these is beyond what can be achieved in this forum, the best option is to contact your local Toro dealer

My cutter blade stops working in reverse . I have to push the lever in then re engage it when I start forward . My husqvarna doesn’t do it , it cuts back and forward . I used the toro ages ago and can’t remember it doing it before. Is there something wrong or normal
It’s normal for toro. Blade automatically disengage when in reverse. Blade only engages in forward motion.
There is a key switch at the base of the seat, you turn it and a light lights up on the dash that tells you it will not stop cutting if you go in reverse. This is all in the manual, it's a safety feature so you don't back up with blades running and possibly run a small human over.
xl 440h, 2005, Engine only runs with choke applied, why won't it run with out choke on ? Had been in storage for quite a while, Stripped & cleaned Carburettor, but still the same problem.
I have no forward or reverse when pressing on the pedals. Just suddenly stopped working. Does anybody have any ideas?
that happen to me few months ago. check TRACTION CLUTCHING ASSEMBLY , part number 104-4160 1 PULLEY-IDLER , parts cost around $60 aftermarket & $130 for genuine unit. pulley idler guts worn out and v- belt didn't get traction to engage forward or reverse motion. it's easier to access by jacking up rear of the mower, taking rear cover off. Also , you will be able to inspect it on your back once the mower is jacked up with out taking rear cover off, Deck assembly has to come off to work on it.
