Unbelievable +$6000 bill! – Signed up with Tru Energy in 2011, all was going well for about 6 months. Then we didn't receive a bill for 6 months and upon investigation discovered TRU Energy did not exist any longer. The phone numbers for TRU energy didn't work and we had no way of contacting them. We had zero correspondence from Tru energy or Energy Australia (who we found… Read more

out years later had taken over from TRU energy) during this time and the power was suddenly disconnected. We reconnected with another provider and carried on, as we had no idea what had happened.

2.5 years later. I have received a bill from Energy Australia for over $6000! They say they sent the bills all those years ago to the wrong address and I am now expected to pay the account off! I am absolutely disgusted.

Worst Energy Company, Dragging people to debt. Zero Stars – In 2008 when I first rented the property I had both Electricity and Gas from AGL. I got a sales person from Tru energy and promised us lot of discounts and mislead us in big time. Then I switched to them without knowing its a two year locking contract. After four weeks (after the cool off period) they sent me another letter saying they are going… Read more

to change their rates. Even it's a two year contract still they can change their energy rates and I noticed they have even higher rates than my previous energy company. But it's too late to change. I was with them for two years and didn't receive any discounts that they promised, and didn't receive bills on time. Instead of receiving bills, I received reminder notices after 7/8 months. When I asked for bills every time they had an excuse for that.

After 5 years, debt collection agency have contacted me and said there is an unpaid amount of $3000 Plus related to my Tru Energy account. By the time they have changed their name as Energy Australia and they couldn't provide any records. When I called them in April 2015 to solve this issue they said this account has been paid off already. But after couple of weeks I received another called from the same debt collecting agency (Panthera Finance) asking for this money. When I said it has been paid off, they threaten me to pay it off or prove it, otherwise they are going to take legal actions against me.

How can they expect customers to keep their receipts for energy bills after 5years. When I asked for these details from them they couldn't provide any of them, and all they want is money. I have no contract with Energy Australia whats so ever. I only had a agreement with Tru Engery from 2008-2010.

I have asked them to disconnect electricity and Gas connection from the property when I'm moving out in 2010. Just now I got to know that they haven't disconnect it because of their greediness. Because they can offer Tru Energy account to new tenants as well. I never got to know about this until I got a call from this debt collecting agency after 5years.

Very unreliable and rude customer service. They always record our calls, but when I said go back and listen to your call records, they couldn't find any recorded call regarding a disconnection, any final bill, any settlement, disconnection notice, or warning letter or any thing. But they are expecting us to keep all these records even after 5years.

My question to them is if I didn't pay if I didn't pay why they didn't disconnect the account and why they allowed to build up a such a big amount. Also Im not going to deal with this as I don't have any agreement with Energy Australia or Panther finance.

They are still dragging this and debt collectors started to call me every other day. I have spoken to their Management and stopped this, but still receiving calls some times and it's a great disturbance to y personal and work life. I have clearly instruct them to keep communication through email only. If they failed to do this, I am going to take legal actions agains them.

I have spoken to Financial Ombudsman and Energy Ombudsman they have asked me request records from this company before filling a dispute, and they totally failed to provide requested information.

Angry and frustrated.
Angry and frustrated.

not even worth one star! – Inaccurate, disorganised billing - payment arrangements agreed to and never recorded! Speak to six different people in one phone call and also get disconnected. Different scenario with each person after explaining myself over and over and over and over. Compared to previous bills, TRUenergy bills are excessive. Don't ever deal with them!!!!!! I for one will be changing providers - like many others I would imagine.

I don't understand how there are so many bad experiences! – Maybe I was lucky, but I called Tru energy to transfer from AGL about 6 months ago. The girl on the phone was in Melbourne and extremely friendly and answered all my questions, she even explained how to do the calculations to compare the rates, and called me back when my phone battery was running low. . I have since received one bill and it was… Read more

about $50 cheaper than AGL- even with the carbon tax!. I recently called to move address and couldn't believe how easy it was. Again, the consultant was lovely and located in Melbourne (which is a big plus for me as I hate outsourced call centres). Never had any negative experience. About a million times better than AGL. cheaper, great service, australian staff fair bit of hold time last time I called, but I'm told it's because of the one big switch and won't be lasting much longer

Excellent – We signed up for Tru Gas and Electricity when we moved to our new rental and I was really surprised that they offered to connect everything on the same day. I thought that was pretty good service. As for anything else, we haven't had our first bill yet but I wouldn't expect any issues. Quick service Nothing yet

Excellent – I have been with TXU and now TRU for electricity only, for about 5 years. They seem to delivery electricity at a pretty good price, and I am on a plan that gives me 6% off my bill each time round (as long as I pay on-time!). Whenever there is an outage, the faults line provides accurate information and also provides an estimated time when… Read more

power will be restored (and it usually occurs before the time stated).

I have never really had a problem with my bills, except for one time when their computer didn't generate one! I didn't worry about it, but sure enough in another 3 months, two bills arrived. There was a letter that explained the glitch and also said if I couldn't pay the two bills straight away, simply call them and it would be okay. I think that shows a decent company with good ethos and values. Reduction in bills for paying on time (with some electricity plans). Friendly staff. Nothing really.

Never Again, True Energy are incompetent and expensive – Moved to a new property, paid the first couple of months bill of $180 no worries - rang the company when I wasn't receiving bills and they said there was a delay due to installation of smart meters, all of a sudden my usage doubled even though my lifestyle didn't change, I lived on my own and was sensible about electricity usage.then the next bill… Read more

comes 6 months after the last bill asking for $1300. There is no way my usage doubled in those 6 months, I have been with TRUEenergy for years and always had a similar type of bill. rang TruEnergy, only to be told bad luck, you used the electricity you pay, there bill is confusing as it is supposed to be for 8 months useage - I gave up in frustration when talking with customer service and have just put the bill to one side, I cant afford a $1300 bill. I also discovered they were trying to charge me for another property where they didn't cut off the electricity when requested and they were charging me for the useage on that property still. My yearly electricity bill used to be $600, now they want twice that for only 6 months. Never again will I use TRUEnergy. I was happy for a long time with TruEnergy and liked the concession for paying on time Confusing Bills, no way of disputing exorbitant energy consumption, never sent bills regularly

Shocking! – I understand True Energy have changed their name to Energy Australia so I will post this review on both. It annoys me a little that True Energy has 1 and 1/2 stars when they don't deserve any. Basically I moved into a property and organised me bills to be through AGL. The day we moved in, AGL connected the power. Afterwards I went outside to check… Read more

the letter box for junk mail and found a letter address "To the occupant". The letter was from True Energy and said that we had unpaid accounts and that they were going to come and disconnect our power. I didn't want someone to come out to disconnect our power when we had only just had it turned on so I rang them up and explained that we have only just moved in and the unpaid accounts must have been from the previous occupant. I asked them not to disconnect my power and they told me that the only way to cancel the disconnection was to open up an account with them, cancel the disconnection and then I could just ring up the next day and close the account. I was really hesitant but they guy on the phone assured me that there would be no connection or disconnection fees or any other charges to me and no hassles closing the account the next day. He said that was the only way to stop the disconnection so I reluctantly agreed. That was a huge mistake! I called up the next day and everything seemed to be fine. Some time later I got a bill from True Energy dated before I moved in and this time it was in my name because I stupidly gave them all my details. I called them up and explained to them that I didn't live there then and I only made that account to cancel the disconnection. The person on the phone said they would sort it out and I just had to send through my rental agreement to show the date I moved in. I did this immediately and again assumed it would all be fine. I then got about 2 years worth of bills sent to me in my name. Again I called them up, had the same conversation with the next person on the phone, re-sent my rental agreement and was told it would all be fine. This went on for months. They started sending me letters from lawyers. I made notes of every e-mail, fax and phone conversation I had with them. I then went to the ombudsman who sorted the problem out immediately and I finally got an apology phone call from True Energy. I spoke to them countless times on the phone and by e-mail. I sent them my rental agreement several times to prove I didn't live there then and it just makes me wonder something, the person on the other end of the phone, e-mail or fax, what do they do after they hang up the phone/receive my fax or e-mail me to say it will all be sorted out? Do they just have a chuckle to themselves at how silly I am for thinking everything will be fine? Do they just sit there and twiddle their thumbs before taking the next call? I understand mistakes happen but surely with the amount of people I spoke to SOMEONE could surely have got it right. It shouldn't take going to the ombudsman to sort it out.

They don't do their job when they say they will do something, they are con-artists, bad service in every way.

Completely Incompetent – Since Energy Au/Tru energy took over billing from Energy Australia 18 months ago I have not had a single correct bill. No bill at all for first 12 months, then a wad of bills all billed at 50 cents a unit. There is no rate that charges .50 for all units consumed. I am on an all times plan which charges between 25c and 30c per unit. Got customer… Read more

Billing is completely incompetent and incapable fo getting billing sorted out. Charging double the agreed rate of each bill

Criminal Company Steals From It's Customers! – We are with Truenergy and we are very unhappy customers. In the last week, we have had nothing but trouble with them. First, we received a HUGE gas bill, which was automatically debited from my husband's savings account. It was for $ 340. Turns out, they haven't been automatically debiting us, as promised, for the last four months and decided to… Read more

debit us for four months worth of bills all at once. This has caused us financial hardship. It caused my husband's bank account to go into negative and he was unable to provide me with money for groceries, car petrol, etc.

First of all, Truenergy is the one who made the mistake by not debiting us on a monthly basis as we had asked. Secondly, when we checked, their automated system told us that our gas bill was $600 in credit! So, we shouldn't have been charged anything at all! Secondly, if the automated system was incorrect and we did owe them money and they wanted their money, that's fine, but they could at least give us a curtesy call and let us know they would be debiting our account for such a large amount so we could budget for it accordingly. You don't just hit customers with a bill like that without warning.

When my husband called them to sort it out, he was told for four days running that their computers systems were down and they could not help him until the computers were fixed. This is interesting, because during this time when their computer system was suppossedly 'down", we were debited again--this time for $264 for electricity. If their computer system is down, how can they continue to debit us? Seems like their system is only down when they want it to be! Also, our electricity bill was up to date and was in credit the last time checked for $219, so it seems unlikely that we actually even owed that $264 we were charged. I'm sure we owed them something, but nothing like what we were charged. Again, when my husband called them, they said they couldn't help us due to 'computer issues'. Really? So, we are have to just sit around for days and weeks unend until you deceide to 'fix' your computers. Meanwhile, you can steal from us? I find their behaviour and their billing methods unsavory at best and criminal at worst.

It is impossible to get to the bottom of the situation or get any satisfaction because they claim their computer system is down and then hang up on you! What kind of a company does that? Stay away from Truenergy!

Everything--bad customer service, inaccurate billing, causes financial hardship to it's customers, promises lower energy bills and doesn't deliver.

You did not received any bills demand payment, but you got bad credit rating and payment defaults – Friday night in 2010, a Sales Representative from TRUenergy knocked my door and he told me that he can save money on my electricity bills. . signing the contact, are you sign it during the office hour, you must say YES. So, I did when the officer ask me. After his hand up with the phone, before he leave, he said I should not sign any contact after the office hour.

2 weeks after I signed the contact, I called TRUenergy and told them I need someone come to my townhouse to get the final reading because I am moving. I told them my father just had operation and he need me go back to look after him for a while. While I am on the phone, they said that they cannot found my account at all. I told them I just signed up with you last 2 week. They told me that the account will not transfer until next meter reading. She told me that you need to get your old electricity company to get your final reading. I ask her how about delay my contact until I got a house again. She said that she will stop to transferring, but she did not say any payment at all.

A few month later, an officer call me about I owe TURENERGY money, I said when I talked to your officer last time, she did not mention I need to pay any money at all, please go back to review your record. The officer told me that there isn’t any record about the conversation at all. And she did not tell me that they have sent me bills.

Later, I received some texts from other company. They said I had a serious matter to discuss with you but in the txt they did not say anything related TRUenergy. I don’t know who are they and I think they must make joke with me, so I did not reply to them because they did not tell me who are they. Those texts stop for a while.

In January this year, I try to sign up a new phone for myself and it was decline. I found out because I am in a bad credit rating as I got a payment defaults with $1789.31 by other credit provider. TRUenergy pass the debt to them.

In the last few days, I discover some important details about door to door sales in ACCC website while I try to get some help from others,

1. The sales person should tell me that I had the right to ask him leave if I want to.

2. If I signed the contact outside the office hour, I should get minimum of 30 days cooling period instead of only 10 days.

Those 2 things that the Sales Representative did not told me at all. More information you can find from ACCC website.

I do not know what to do now as I need to get someone to fix my credit record.

How do you know what to pay Tru Energy – Latest bill states we owe $800 for Electricity, and $400 for Gas, yet we are $120 in credit for the duel fuel account. Our bill says we do not owe anything. knew prices were going up (thanks to carbon tax excuse)in the new year and my current provider had not contacted me about any new deals to keep the price down. Luckily i kept a fair amount of the information written down because if i hadn't i wouldn't have had the proof that i was being charged an extra $80 on the first bill. The call center girl said 'i have checked and you are on the correct rate - then i told her about what was promised and she told me to email the written proof to her manager - which i did. The manager said we had you on the wrong discount oh so sorry about that yes we will fix that for you with a credit on the next bill. I had to supply proof of what was promised by the doorknocker (which was really only his scrappy writing of comparison rates and discount numbers written all over the place but it was enough to back my story and i managed to get it rectified and the rate promised is what i am now getting. I will check every single bill i get from all suppliers now. If we aren't getting charged too much then why is there no transparency in the whole pricing scheme? How can we correctly compare prices when they all have so many confusing and different ways of billing us? Does every one get offered peak consumption prices as well as off peak consumption prices? Apparently you have to ask for it other wise you are automatically always on peak prices... it does my head in thinking about it. i get electricity to my house and get bills delivered on time. Get discount for paying on time. Have a victorian customer service office where you cans speak to someone (who was actually quite sympathetic and understanding and instructed me on how i could take the complaint further). In the section below where is asks would you recommend to a friend i choose yes, only because i had my problem rectified and in the long run don't think any other energy company are any better than these guys. 2 stars of the 3 i gave should go to me for my persistence and being smart enough to keep all the papers he gave me.

Unbelievably hopeless – We moved out of our home in November 2012. We arranged about 3 weeks prior to have the gas and electricity disconnected and connected at the new house. Organising this was hassle free and I was told that we would receive the final bill in about 2 weeks after disconnection. Due to our meters being inside the house, we left a key at the door with a… Read more

Huge sign so that the meter reader could get in as we were not able to stay home. We did this after discussing with Tru Energy the best way to go about it.

When we went back to the house to get the last of our things, the electricity was still on so I called them to make sure that it had definitely been disconnected. The person I spoke looked at the account and told me it had definitely been disconnected and sometimes they just leave the power on but it is not in your name anymore. They assured me that it has absolutely definitely had been disconnected. So a few weeks later when we hadn't received the final bills, I called to see where they were. I was again told that it had been done and we should receive the bills within the week. Another phone call a few weeks later and was told the same thing again. Then I started to get frustrated. They screwed up the last bill before the final bill so we were expecting two bills at once, as well as our first bill for the new place.

So I called again after a week to ask where the bills were and this time found out that the gas and electricity were never disconnected. The stupid meter reader took one look at the gate (which was locked, as the house was empty) and left. Surely there would be a note on the file that the meters were inside the house, as that was not a new thing, it had been that way The Whole Time. I realise this part is not Tru Energy's fault, it is the meter reader. However there was No follow up whatsoever. If it was over 2 months after it was supposed to be disconnected, don't you think you should call the customer and let them know?! It's just common courtesy and common sense!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we have now received bills for usage after we moved out. After a very nasty and frustrated phone call, they have closed the accounts and promised to back date the billing. That was two weeks ago. I called today to check on the progress and was advised that the request to close the accounts and have the final bill sent out was never sent. Ridiculous! So the request has now been sent (or so they tell me) and they can not follow up for at least 21 days. Is it seriously too much to ask for them just to do their jobs properly?!?!?!?! Would not recommend Tru Energy to my worst enemy. Stay away at all costs.

The most appalling company out there – I signed up to this company 6 months ago and I still have not received a bill. I am not impressed. Despite ringing them many times the issue is yet to be resolved. They come up with loads of excuses, but no solutions. I have given them another 21 days to get it sorted and then I'll contact the Energy and Water Ombudsman (Victoria). Been with… Read more

Worst provider out there – Signed up 6 months ago for gas and electricity, since then no bill after many complaints. They also shut off my electricity by mistake at one point and spoiled all my food in fridge and freezer. Tried calling again today and was advised to call back later when the person looking at my case is in. Regret so much that I signed up to them. Should have stayed with origin. Avoid them like the plague! Bad service, no bill. Unhelpful staff

We had no idea until our current (known) electricity supplier rang to ask why we had left?? We found out that Tru-energy had swapped us over using a made up name 'Lauren'. It took us 2 days of calling ESTA, our previous company and "TRU" energy to… Read more

finally get switched over again...... hopefully it’ all sorted... we'll wait and see....... stay away from "Tru" energy...... anything but tru!!
