I purchased this vacuum through the good guys in late 2024. Returned it 6months later as it stopped working. They gave me a replacement. I have had the same issues. I went ahead to clean the filters and everything falls apart. Its now impossible to clip everything back together!! I read the manual and it doesn't outline where the rubber seals go… Read more
and how to clip it back in place. The moment the attachments clip in place inside the barrel, they fall apart once the barrel is closed! NOTHING ON YOUTUBE on how to resolve! SO I RANG YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTRE TWICE AND GOT NO HELP! Nice way to take money from people and give them a vacuum that lasts a yr if that!
Further more, the customer service consultant that i spoke to the second time wanted to email me the manual, despite me saying I have the manual. She asked for my email address and I said NO! And I didn't provide my email address to her over the phone. Next thing I see that this consultant emailed me. I replied to her email asking her how did she get my email address? How did she get this information after she asked for it and I didn't provide it to her????
Everything is good except the very poor quality heads that are hard to push on short carpet even on one third power, retracted brushes and open vent at top of pipe. Back ache! Show details
Several faults after 1.5 - 2 years of ownership. Hose broken off where the unit connects and have had to use electrical tape. Nozzle locking pin snapped so head comes off and so cannot use. Changing to other head with rotating brushes but vacuum is so low it doesn't suck anything. Filter door broken off and had to also use tape to keep it on. Terrible vacuum. Show details

Good sucking performance but noisy with a screaming whisle. The extention pipe is 50cm shorter and does reach my ceiling. Difficulty in keeping the stick attached to the handle. I am dissapointed. Show details
Love my Vax Pet Pro Vacuum Cleaner – Great suction picks up all the pet hair really well. Excellent Vacuum & reasonable price too from The Good Guys Store. Highly recomend if you have pets.Thank you Good Guys Team.
The best vac I've ever used – Acquired my vac from betta electrical, easy to set up, great to use, sucks up the dirt and stuff with no issues and so easy to clean out. It's perfect for a small to medium house. Show details
*update* Motor strong, issues with the turbo head – After owning this unit for 3-4 years, it finally kicked the bucket (through no fault of its own). I have appreciated this unit so much we went out and bought the same model (slightly updated). I can confirm my previous rating is accurate and still very happy with it. My only gripe is that the turbo head is difficult to clean, though I have worked… Read more
around this with a 3rd party turbo head. We have owned this vacuum for 3+ years now and it is still going strong. The turbo head has had its issues though with a long haired German Shepherd, this isn't unexpected. I have recently purchased an after market turbo head and the machine is working as new!

I bought this as a backup to my stick vac which has significant limitations. Used on both carpet and wooden floors. Used for picking up pet hair, doing skirting boards, corners and edges where stick vac just can't. I was happy to see a metal shaft… Read more
rather than a plastic one. Suction is excellent and it picks up dust and debris really well. Cord retracts strongly. Plenty of power and the option to turn it down if not required on max. Quite inexpensive for what you get. My only gripe is the small round brush head that I use for skirting boards can turn for different angles but turns too easily and ends up facing away from the work. I might just glue it in place. I would buy the same again.
Follow-up · Just a quick follow up. I noticed for the first time in 20 years, black lines on my white skirting board. It's from the head of the new vac. Never had it before with my Dyson or the stick vac. May be a cheaper plastic or something. I'll have to tape it with electrical tape to avoid further marking. Otherwise no complaints.
Honestly great vacume cleaned my house from top to bottom felt clean afterwards adjustable suction power an amazing array of attachments I'm a cleaner by trade and it cleaned just as good if not better than a dyson it has not only the wattage of… Read more

Worthwhile purchase for sure – Mine is 7 yrs old and its been used 2-3 times a week on hard and carpet floors belonging to a couple of dogs and cats. Its coming to the end of its days, but I will definatly buy another. Easy to clean/maintain, great suction and a good long hose. Show details
Good Service for 3+ years now – We purchased our Vax Pet Pro Barrel Vacuum VX74 for $199 (+3yrs Concierge $48 – extends warranty to 5 years) from Good Guys Chatswood 2067 on 5.11.20 (3+ years ago), and have been extremely happy with it. That was less than half the price of the Dyson Big Ball Origin vacuum (Good Guys $499) replacement that we considered for our died Dyson DC37C… Read more
vacuum (after 6.5 years). The first thing we noticed was the VX74 picked up a lot of sand from the carpet - which clearly our Dyson had not been picking up. We throttle the VX74 power down to 3/4 of maximum, otherwise it sucks up too much of our old carpet. In 3+ years it may have stopped 2x, due to overheating. It restarted after clearing hair & fluff from the metal filter and allowing to cool. I have noticed negative reviews due to loss of a rubber ring. I do not remember ever seeing this ring, so we must have lost it soon after purchase - and the VX74 works fine without it. It is important to clear the barrel & filters regularly, and put the VX74 back together correctly. Occasionally we wash the cloth filter, but generally we bash it against a fence outside until most dust has blown away.
This review was written 01/2024. It is now 10/2025 and our VX74 is still running well.
Amazing buy – Love this vacuum cleaner so much. Great at getting dog hair off carpet!! Best cleaner I have bought. Fantastic features including long cord, great suction, variable suction settings, easy to clean . The accessories are endless and the vacuum head just glides over the floor. Turbo brush is also great. Great for hard floors and carpet. Never tips over which I love as have had ones that tip over and it’s very annoying. Show details

Have a little discretion with warranty decisions – One week out of warranty and stopped working, called Vax and said 'very sorry to hear about that', it is out of warranty so we can't help you. When it is only one week out of warranty this is disappointing and I won't be purchasing again. Show details

No suitable for homes with pets – Absolutely do not purchase this if you are looking for a vacuum that can suck up pet hair. Purchased this to replace our prior Vax vaccuum, which was great. Unfortunately, using this on short pile carpet with a labrador in the house, it is almost impossible to get the carpet fur-free. Works fine on hard surfaces, easy to manoeuver, but do not purchase if you are looking for a pet vacuum. Show details
The Worst Vacuum Cleaner Ever – I bought this vacuum with great regret. In my new home, I only have one rug. I have a dog. My 20 year-old Dyson was on its last legs. I thought I would buy the cheapest value one since I had no more need for a heavy duty vacuum for lots of carpeted rooms. 1) The first time I took it out of the box, the barrel detached from the body. I put it back… Read more
on. Each time I carried the vacuum cleaner, the barrel would come away. 2) I brought it back to The Good Guys in Mile End where for 15 mins they shook my vacuum cleaner and the barrel did not come off. It didn’t matter that I showed them that the attachment portion was slightly damaged. I took the vacuum cleaner home. 3) The vacuum cleaner sucked nothing up. I cleared everything out and checked the filters. It worked for the hard floors but on the carpet it was barely doing anything. I had to vacuum the lounge room TWICE. 4) I brought it back to The Good Guys in Mile End SA again. This time they did a ‘test’. Of course the vacuum worked but their carpet sample was thin pile. Not thick. They told me that if nothing is wrong I am unable to return and exchange it for a better vacuum cleaner. 5) I wrote to VAX and made a compliant. The customer service is really bad and not very helpful. They informed me that if I am not happy with the vacuum cleaner, I should return it to The Good Guys and let them know I am not happy with it.
I don’t know if I can handle going back to The Good Guys for the third time and have to return to the worst vacuum cleaner ever.

Overheating and stop working – Overheating and stops working. Vacuum just gets heated with few minutes run and stops working. Very bad vacuum and would not recommend anyone to buy this. Manufacturer need to test this item as this is a waste of money. Show details
Overheats and stops working :( – I've had this vacuum for about a year. It has started overheating and stopping. I try to remove the rear filter as that it was is boiling and it has actually burnt my skin. You can smell burning and then can't use the vacuum for about a week! It's under warranty so I'm taking it back as I'm hoping it's just this machine that has a fault and a… Read more
replacement won't do the same thing. The motorised head clogs up easily and is difficult to clean out. Mine stopped rotating in the last month and has barely been used so that's also disappointing.
You will need to be strong – This vacuum works well BUT .... It is very difficult to get the head off the tube. In fact, I actually can't remove the head in order to attach the nozzle. Big design fault. There is no clip to attach the head, it just pushes on the metal tube so that once it has been used for a while, the head presses on, no doubt combined with dust and cannot… Read more
be removed by pulling or twisting. Even my husband can't remove it. So frustrating. The tube will come off the hose so maybe Vax should supply several tubes. I've rated at 3 because the vacuum works well apart from this.
Very disappointing ! – This is my second vac of this model. My first one lasted 6 months before overheating and stopping dead ! Thought it was just a fluke, so exchanged for same. This one has lasted just short of 3 months and has done the same ! I am diligent about cleaning the vac and making sure filters are clean and tubes unblocked, so ITS NOT ME !! Now I have to… Read more
take it back and am without a vac for who knows how long ?! I dont want this model and make again....but I dont think I have a choice !
Poorly designed product, needs to be tested by manufacturer to make sure it is for purpose – Tried this and very poorly designed ,vey disappointing it blocks up continuously. The unbranded cheap vacs are actually much better. Show details
Lightweight. Easy to use – This vacuum is very lightweight compared to our last vacuum and using the correct head to match the floor makes vacuuming easy. There are a couple of thing I would change. The 2 purple buttons used to switch on and retract the cord would be better in different colours as they are a little hard to read. The hose on ours keeps twisting and the metal… Read more
tubing would be better if it was a little longer at the maximum height. Someone taller than me would be hunched over. All in all a good vacuum for the price
Has long power cord & hose but too loud & seals on barrel easily slip off if lost you need to buy whole new barrel – Way too loud and seals on barrel fall of easily Show details

disappointing – Firstly, can't believe the noise it makes,it's deafening, second time i used it,it started surging up & down then just stopped, was told to leave it a while then try again,it started but soon did the same thing again, too much trouble, went back to my old Sanyo, not as powerful, but works all the time. Expensive yet poor in the extreme – Negatives: Very poor suction. This is compounded by the design of the head which seems to dissipate the already meagre suction. When you test it with the nozzle, it will adhere to your skin, yet, with the head attached, will not suction up dirt. It is only strong enough to suction up hair from a wooden floor. It will certainly not get dirt or dog… Read more
hair from a carpet. My wife tried to suck up a cockroach and the suction was unable to do it. Our cheap K-Mart Vac took care of the job.
The barrel is very bulky taking up more room than its competitors. The canister removal and re-fitting process is very fiddly. The design is such that it topples on its side very easily, frustrating movement through the house having to pick it up again.
Its one positive is that the electrical lead is quite long.
The net result is that vacuuming takes far longer than it should as you will go over and over an area as you realise that the machine hasn't picked up the dirt. I have owned many vacuums in my life - this is the worst one I have purchased.
Honestly, it's pretty crap. You get what you pay for – Its parts feel cheap, it's really noisy (poor pets), and doesn't really suck that well (the default vacuum head also has to be held at a low angle so that it is flush with the ground, it's a small issue, but kinda annoying, you'll see what I mean if you buy it). A handheld Dyson with lower wattage is considerably more powerful and effective. I guess it'll be useful for vacuuming the car, that's about it. Not really a household vacuum. Show details
So noisy, it's terrible. Also sounded like it was sucking air and vacuumed material kept clogging top of barrel – It vacuumed well. I found the long hose kinked, I think it's too long. Like the length of the cod. Very flimsy plastic, concerned will break easily when open barrel to clean filter. Show details
Great value and result for the price – After buying 3 other vacuums at various price points that all died on me, I decided on this based on Choice review and also price. I have cats of my own and I also foster. I have hard surfaces, couches and rugs. I have also used it to clean my mattress. It's been faultless for the past 4 months. Show details
Good suction...that's all – Having 3 cats and a dog, I was looking for a semi decent vacuum cleaner that could handle all the hair and debris from my animals (unfortunately I was not in a position at the time for something more upmarket). I purchased the Vax pro pet on the recommendation of the sales person, with strict instructions on how to keep it functioning at its best.… Read more
Firstly, the vacuum cleaner is SO loud, I need to wear ear defenders whilst I am vacuuming! The suction is really good! And it does pick up alot of hair and debris. Unfortunately, the filters get dirty VERY quickly and I find i need to replace them atlest once a month if not twice, which is $29.95 each replacement! I am currently on the look out for a new, quieter and more reliable vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately, I would not recommend the Vax Pro Pet.
I love this Vac - It's a dream – I have two cat and live in the country, as you can imagine, my carpets get very dirty. I have tried the Dyson but it wasn't up for the job. I bought the Vax Pet Pro and it has made my life so much easier. I can get my carpet nice and clean without any effort. Show details
Don’t buy purchase something else – Have owned two in the last 18 months only because I live in a small remote town and there is not much choice here. Worst vacuum I have ever owned they work fine initially but then it starts to overheat and shut off after about ten minutes in spite of cleaning out the barrel and filters. If a vax vacuum is all you can get then buy a broom Show details
Do not buy this vacuum cleaner – At first, I loved the way it looked. Extra long cord. Nice design and nice head. But, cleaning it is some kind of nightmare and you really need to clean it out after every use. Also, the worst part is a small rubber grommet/ring that sits inside the barrel. As you empty the barrel, it comes off easily and is easily lost. I lost it once and after… Read more
going through all the drama of finding out where to possibly get a new one, I was told that the part was not available at all, and if I wanted a new one, that I would need to buy a new barrel entirely, which was close to the price that the whole machine cost me!! Luckily, after this, I found the rubber ring in the garden. But I will never buy a vax again! They do not look after their customers at all and clearly use parts that are easily lost, deliberately. Great business model!
Save your money – It worked fine initially despite the horrible kinking hose. But it has a bad design flaw. There is a little rubber ring that covers on of the ports and if you lose this while emptying the barrel, as we did, dust gets sucked straight into the motor and destroys it. Our machine now has no vacuum strength and is sitting out to go in the bin. And it wasn't cheap either. Last time we buy a Vax product. Show details
Cleans fine. Attachments challenging & support unhelpful – Purchased last month to replace old Volta. Cleans various floor surfaces well and has good stability. When tried to disconnect hose by pushing clips as instructed, cut hand and strained back. Cannot get metal telescopic tube off at all. Friends tried also unsuccessfully. When emptying canister, gasket falls off. When cleaning post motor filter,… Read more
gasket falls off. When cleaning pre motor filter, gasket falls off. When cleaning inlet pipe, gasket falls off. Phoned support number for Australia. Spoke with someone in the Philippines who said to take it back to point of sale, but they refer to manufacturer with whom the warranty rests Then the person on the support line advised of nearest service centre which is about 100 km away. Then I was told to go and ask for help at Bunnings. Phoned the nearest Vaxservice centre to ask for ideas, in particular about how to remove the hose and tube. Told they could not comment without seeing and told me to go and ask Godfrey's Vacuum store. Hose and tube still stuck , so moving the machine around the house is like wrestling an octopus. If the problems with getting attachments to come off and gaskets to stay on could be solved, I would be very happy with the operation of this unit. Clues anyone?
Spend more money and buy Electrolux – We purchased this vacuum cleaner to replace our dead Electrolux. Has good suction. Is noisiest vacuum I’ve ever heard, head and handle are cheap looking and feeling. Has multiple levels of suction. Highest level feels like it’s ripping the carpet off the floor. Spend the extra few hundred dollars and buy an Electrolux. Show details
Barrel needs to be emptied quite often but it gets all the pet hair – I use EUFY Robovac on a daily basis in the house but I use this one over the weekend to clean my Labrador puppy's hair. I need to empty the barrel after each room, because that's how good it is and that's how much hair it cleans from carpets, tiles and wooden floors - after they've been vaccummed every single day. It keeps my OCD sane! Show details
