AK Reels Easyhose Questions & Answers
VerifiedI need a hose for my van because I’m disabled putting the normal hose away is increasingly getting harder for me. I see this hose has some retraction issues. Have these been rectified or is it still an issue. I’m thinking between this one and lay flat but this one appeals a bit because it retracts. If it works. It’s a deal breaker. Thanks.
pMy AK hose reel is leaking from the inside
Can it be fix?
Hi Members, I'm reading the various reviews and it seems that of the older reviews, they're very good. I'd like to know how these reels are going 2-3 years down the track.
I bought a Pope from Bunnings and was very disappointed - and it seems from other reviews on this site that just about every brand is disappointing.
Hi Alison, I actually moved my AK reel to my front yard because I rarely use a hose there. The reel itself is robust however it’s too small for the amount of hose which is 20 metres. It never retracts easily or fully. Your often left with several metres of hose hanging out and unless you enjoy wasting time pulling back and forth to get it to finally retract the whole hose I’d suggest you avoid buying one. I ended up purchasing a Gardena hand wound reel which mounts on the wall having seen a mates in use. It’s heaps better in my opinion. Winds out easier with less force required and winds up fast and easy also. Hope that helps. Regards.
Thanks Gisac. I was wondering about hand wound reels and you've answered my question. I'll look into that one! I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question so quickly!
Hi all. When used correctly hose reels will retract in full. Many parts of Australia have high water pressure, coupled with warmer temperatures all hoses expand, and this can interfere with the rewind process. By following the manual instructions and turning off the water supply and then holding the spray in the open position to expel excess water, the reel will rewind freely. I have had two of these reels for over 8 years now and they work as good today than when i first bought them. John.
How to replace the hose
I have pulled the hose out to its full extent and now it will not retract. How do I get it to retract? Cheers, Jason
Hi Jason , I had the same prob this morning. was advised by Easy Hose to get info from AK website. I tried to follow instructions but ended up breaking the unit . The instructions and diagrams are way too unclear ( IMO ) so now I have a 2 week old hose reel that doesnt work. My advice to you is send it back A- so you dont break it and B- so the heavily wound spring doesnt injure you. regards n.k
If you have an issue with the hose reel. Please call the factory. I did and they walked me through the process. Very helpful team at AK Reels. JS
I have had 2 Easyhose reels for several years, great quality product BUT how can I change the tension to make it easier to pull the hose out of the casing? Initially I thought it would loosen up with use but after approximately 6 years use it’s still very difficult to pull out. I look forward to your reply
Thank you

I have the same problem but I don't think there is much to be done. I vaguely remember somewhere in their instruction book they recommended not to mess with the tension spring. Maybe try to put the question to them, send an email.
Do you have a service center here in in Adelaide? Having trouble getting an empty hose to completely retract. It's almost if the spring has lost some of its tension. The service pages on the net are not much help. Please advise.
Hi Brian, I'm just another customer. There should be a contact number or something on their website external link . I had your problem too but I think is not a big deal, just the hose not overlapping correctly inside the casing jamming. Usually I fix it by playing it a bit.
Cheers.
Hi Brian,
Best to contact the manufacturer directly. It may be several issues depending on how the problem came about,

Why doesn't my hose retract all the way to the end ?
It happened to me too. After completely, or almost completely, unwinding the hose it didn't retract completely. I think it is something to do with repositioning of the hose loops inside the housing and jamming because the hose is quite stiff and doesn't bend and overlap exactly as it was before. I found that turning the water off before the reel and releasing the remaining pressure trapped inside the hose usually does the trick.
I was told by my friend that for the hose to completely retract with any hose reel you need to turn off the water supply and release the pressure. It will roll up every time if you do. The hose stiffens with water pressure and swells slightly, making it more difficult to wind up. I have not had a problem by doing this. Hope this helps.
