I'm a bit confused about what to do with the freezer bags I receive with each delivery. Does Aussie Farmers reuse these? Or are they just discarded? Sometimes we forget to return them in the following week and I receive new ones. I would not like my AFD person to be out of pocket due to replacing them.

I occasionally reuse the ice bricks or but mostly throw them away. If I do reuse them, sometimes they split open and leak gel all over everything.

Jane
Jane

It just seems wasteful that they are not recycled in some way. There is a limit to how many ice packs I need for home use. Hello Fresh also does not take back their ice packs/insulation packing. So we end up with masses of perfectly good boxes/ice packs etc.I don't know what the solution is though.

I return mine each week. If I forget one week they always leave more and I leave them all out for collection with my next order and they are taken away to reuse

aussie farmers takes them back and recycles them. Another option is that you can use the contents in your garden beds if you tend to do a lot of gardening. They help the soil retain moisture in the hotter summer months..

Thanks for your advice. I'm pleased Aussie Farmers recycles the freezer bags. I would like to know exactly what is in them and whether or not it is safe to empty the contents down the sink if necessary.

Hi there, it's Geoff and I own and operate an Aussie farmers Franchise in Melbourne's Outer East. The freezer packs are re-used,(after being sanitized), so your driver should be collecting any that are left for return. We usually leave them in the eskies if they are already frozen.

I do the same as Linda above, I return them each week. I put them in a plastic bag, store them in the freezer then put them back in the esky when the next delivery is due. If I forget to put them in the esky, I just put them all in the esky for Aussie Farmers for the next week.

I have been an Aussie Farmers customer for over two years, and am very happy with the service and products. My only concern is with the eskies. When I first started as a customer, I was given a new esky and my order was packed into that same esky each week. However, after a few months, the practice changed and, since then, deliveries always arrive in a different esky to the one that I put out the night before.

These eskies arrived in varying states of cleanliness and newness, but were always at least acceptable. Yesterday's order arrived in a dirty esky that absolutely reeks inside. I called customer service, and they agreed to contact the franchisee and arrange for someone to collect the offending esky off my front verandah.

I would very much prefer to have one esky that was 'mine'. That way, its cleanliness would be my responsibility. Is such an arrangement possible? I would have thought so, since I understand that new customers are required to actually purchase their eskies.

We're really sorry to hear that has been the case Steelpaw, could you please send us an email at socialsupport@aussiefarmers.com.au with your account details, and we'll be able to add delivery instructions to your account to ensure your Driver doesn't swap your esky over again. Thanks for taking the time to get in touch.

Hi Steelpaw. I have just had a response from Aussie Farmers who asked me to contact them which I have done with photos attached. I don't think I have ever had the same esky and assumed they were filled at the depot, deposited outside my house and the empty one taken away for re-use. My orders are delivered in the early hours of the morning and I can understand the milko not wanting to transfer the order into the empty esky on my doorstep, especially in winter. I had no idea new customers had to buy their esky though. I don't mind getting a different esky as long as they are clean and this one was beyond a joke. I hope your esky problem is resolved soon.

I have used my own large esky (on wheels & with a long handle) for several years and have never had a problem. The hard plastic insides are very easy to clean and the wheels mean no carting heavy bags. I do also put out a soft AFD esky for overflow, but the driver only takes my AFD esky when it is at the end of its life and has always replaced with a new one.

If you get your delivery when you are home (mine comes late afternoon but it used to come in the middle of the night), it might help to say Hi to the driver and just make yourself known as a friendly face.

Hi AFD, we have been really happy with your service for over two years. Just a query here re: How can I know that the farmers are not being ripped off? Meaning , in a very competitive marketplace, there have been allegations made in the press about the business practices of the large food market chains-how is your company different? I read the answer above about the farmers being " like family to us" and "deserve a fair price and a fair go".

but I would like more substantive information than that. Are your farmers actually getting this fair price and fair go and are they getting a better deal than they would be/ are getting from the large supermarket chains?

Again, we have been really happy with the service and the products- pay a bit more but get it delivered.

ADLS Gold Coast.

Thanks for your support and we’re glad to hear you’re enjoying our service and the fresh produce! Just to give you some of the things that make us different; we ask our farmers for their price – it is not a negotiation, but a discussion. A fair price needs to be sustainable to cover the cost of production and support our farmer’s family on the farm. There are no hidden fees, rebates or costs and we don’t replace out of season products with imports. And that is just a start…

We have recently signed up to Aussie Farmers Direct but there is some concern regarding the 'no lock-in' contract. Suppose we were to discontinue with the services, how would we go about cancelling it? We have looked on the forms which state that we have 10 days from when the contract is signed to cancel without reason OR we have up to six months to cancel in certain circumstances. But what happens if we were to cancel after that 6 month period?

Aussie Made
Aussie Made

I'm not sure of the "no lock-in"contract. I just rang and cancelled any future orders. I didn't sign any contracts. This may be a new thing they have introduced as people have been unhappy with the produce they have received and are leaving them. They started off really well and it has deteriorated as I believe they have gotten too big and the quality control they had is not there anymore. It's a great idea but they need to llift their game. Once that has happened I may consider using them again. When I advised that my fruit and veg as not at all fresh I was asked to take a photograph but I had already thrown it out. So that was no help at all. It would have been prudent to send me another replacement order but that wasn't even offered. A shame really.

Hi there Incognito Eggplant, sorry for the delay! We're happy to help clarify things for you. Aussie Farmers Direct is an obligation free service, this means you aren't committed to a certain number of deliveries nor a fixed time frame for our service. You can change your order, notify us of a delivery break, or cancel your account, up until noon the day prior to the delivery; if you do so after the noon cut off, we won't be able to process this for the next days delivery for you. But you can definitely close your account at any time, just by contacting our head office on 1300 645 562. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get back in touch with us.

Aussie Farmers Direct
Aussie Farmers Direct   DM

Hi Aussie Made, we're sorry to hear that, this was your experience with our quality, that's certainly not what we like to hear, our apologies for any inconvenience that caused you. We certainly try to follow-up all feedback that's reported to us. At times (where warranted) we ask for photos of the produce to be sent, so that we can include this in our report to the relevant State Manager on your behalf. However, if we're notified within 48 hours, then we're able to organise a redelivery for you, so we're very sorry if that was not the case! We'd love the opportunity to show you how fresh and convenient our Fruit and Veg can be, if you'd like to give us a second chance, just send us your account details via socialsupport@aussiefarmers.com.au Thanks for your feedback, and we hope to hear from you.

We are thinking of starting an account with aussie farmers direct. What I would to know is how much better for the farmer is buying through AFD compared to coles or woolies. I mean what percent of the price I pay does the farmer get? Unfortunately im a bit sceptical and would like to be proved wrong. Thank you.

Victoria
Victoria

To be honest, percentage I can't answer. But the freshness and quality of their produce, you can't compare. When the lady came to our house to "sell" farmers direct to us, I wasn't home but hubby was. He is hard to please, but signed up due to the profits going to farmers. So in all honesty I can't tell you percentage, I do apologise, but you can tell its fresh and not snap frozen.

ravinder
ravinder

Same here that's the question maybe you can address directly to their company. Although their food was fresh it did not meet my family needs as I have grown up kids it changes from week to week. They love delivering the mixed veg and fruit box even when you order other wise.

peterlonz
peterlonz

Seems pretty clear that most "supporters" do not know the extent to which farmers benefit & that applies to me also. AFD should set about providing clear explanations of the benefits & the structure of the company.

Who are the principle shareholders, what % of profit is returned to supplier farmers, are supplier farmers under tight contracts as we know they are for Coles/Woolies? Etc, etc.

peterlonz
peterlonz

This is a largely unanswered question; you could refer to the many reviews which are currently scoring 3.2 out of 5. hardly impressive!

Aussie Farmers Direct

Hi everyone, thank you for your questions regarding supporting Australian farmers. The percentage of the retail price that each farmer gets varies based on the product in question. But rest assured, we build long term relationships with our farmers and our suppliers- they’re like family to us and deserve a fair price and a fair go. Further to this, our Aussie Farmers Foundation, (with our customer’s support) has donated more than $800m to both rural and regional communities since it was initially founded in 2010. Alex Smith

seems like aussie farmers foundations funds are actually received from donations from people in the general public and not actually aussie farmers direct... the grants aren't solely funded by aussie farmers either but a group of "fundraisers" aka "money laundering" with money donated by the general public in which half of the money goes into the pockets of the foundation founders....

I bought a kg bag of navals only to get Valencia which to my mind are not as sweeter, less juice and more tart. If I knew they were were going to Valencias I would not have bought them at all. I am very annoyed

Valencia oranges cannot realistically be considered an eating orange & I would avoid them for any other use also. Once again shows how out of touch AFD is!

Hi meg.robbie, we're sorry to hear that you received the incorrect oranges and that it's taken a while to get back to you here. If I order meat or fish, how is it delivered? Is it pre packed frozen or fresh?

OBAN

We only ordered meat a couple of times and found the delivery no problems as they deliver early in the morning I think before 6am.

Hope that helps

Bluey53
Bluey53

Hi Julie, sorry your question went into my spam box. Meat and fish is delivered in vacuum sealed packs. It is all full of flavour and the Barramundi is brilliant - my kids don't normally like fish, but they love the Barramundi. The salmon is also a winner. It comes very early in the morning and when you order the first time you are provided with a fridge bag. You just need to remember to put it out the night before with a cooler pack .... brilliant!

Aussie Farmers Direct
Aussie Farmers Direct   DM

Hi Julie, Bluey53 is right, we also deliver some items in plastic trays with a seal over the top. All of our meat orders are delivered with ice packs so it remains cool for you until your collect it at your door! It's good to hear OBAN and Bluey53 that you are enjoying the meat deliveries! Thanks for your question Julie and we apologise for the delay in getting back to you!

Would you please organize to recycle boxes? This would surely be good economics as well as a green solution. Please consider doing this. We could leave our boxes out to be picked up next order and reduce difficulty of disposing of accumulated boxes.

Aussie Farmers Direct
Aussie Farmers Direct   DM

Hi Helgo, Thanks for your question about our boxes. Due to food safety regulations, we are required to deliver a new box with each greengrocer deliver. We simply ask you to pop the boxes in with your own recycling or re-use them for storage as our drivers don't have the facility to collect these boxes. If there are any schools in your area, they often have a use for cardboard boxes so it might be worth having a check with them also. Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

Hi Ruth if you have several bags accumulating at your house, you are welcome to leave them out for your local milkman. Just be sure to leave a note saying ‘please take’ on the ones that you wish to be taken and your milkman should bring them back to us.
