I found out what is causing the tripping of the RCD. In the end I could not even make a coffee, even a black one. This was a year after my extended warranty ran out, so my machine is 4 years old. It's a PrimaDonna Elite 650. I pulled the sides of and long story short, the boiler has stainless steele flutes inserted into an alloy body. This alone causes corrosion with two separate metals being together under pressure and heat. It's a very bad design flaw. I spen 3200AUD on my machine and to only get 4 years out of it is outrageous to say the least. And this is a well known issue from what I can see on this forum. I've orded an OEM part that came from Italy and will not arrive until Jan 27th 2026, I orded it on December 23rd 2025. The issue of not completing the descaling began 2 years into owning the product. My water is a 1 on the hardness level and several measurements over the years proves that this has not changed in my area. But because the machine was still making all sorts of coffees with no issue, I thought it was power draw in an old house that was the issue. When the issue got worse in another old house we moved into I thought that was still the case. Old wiring and high draw. But when it started tripping the RCD (this is late last year, 2025, 4 years of ownership) when making a simple expresso, I had to check out what was going on. Corrosion on the boiler at the egress end due to mixed metals under high heat and pressure.

My model is a DeLonghi PrimaDonna Elite ECAM650.85.MS

I've spent 65aud to purchase the new boiler, but will only expect to get another 4 years at the most out of it. I will only descale with plain water as the citric acid used will only speed up the corrosion issue in the boiler.

Delonghi, You need to understand that you have a design flaw in these units using these boilers. Mixing metals in a high heat and pressure environment is metallurgy 101, and your designers should have known this. And if they didnt', you need to get a new team in.

You have sold us some very expensive coffee machines, only to find out that they lasted no longer than any other coffee machine, but with a hefty price tag that has only gone up in the last couple of years.

Did anybody get a result from delonghi about descaling cycle tripping circuit breaker before finishing descale cycle. Its obviously a issue as we have had 2 machines do it just outside of warranty time. Delonghi should be up front about it

We have had the same issue machine trips RCD in descale cycle. There is an obvious warranty issue with the machine executing the cycle here, but from the responses apparently not.

Hi not sure how you all went with this issue. I thought perhaps the machine was blocked from the descale causing high pressure and water to leak somewhere inside - RCD trip. After flushing about 10 times until I had good flow from the coffee spout I retried the descaling cycle with water only and succeeded in completing the cycle. So all good until the next time.

Same model, same issue - descaling process tripped circuit breaker removed grounds container and found water in it where it usually wouldn't be. Hoping it dries out...

After descaling coffee and water end up in the grounds container, water will come out of the milk spout but nothing from the coffee spouts. What has happened?

The milk can easily be made to froth - how you heat it up. Put steamer near top of the jug when almost finished heating. I complained about the build quality, but the replacement machine we have has not given any problems. It is the first home coffee machine ever owned which makes coffee better than coffee from what had been my favourite coffee shop.

Hi, thanks for your question. If your milk jug is not frothing correctly then please check that the clear plastic tube is inserted all the way in. Ensure that assembly is correct. Hi all, Any advise on above issue, my PrimaDonna Elite started tripping power circuit at the end of the descaling cycle so still considers not complete, I tried descaling after turning all other devices off at my house no success! Now machine keeps asking to descale & no way I can complete a descaling cycle now which is bad. Max

Hi, thanks for your question. We are sorry to hear about your experience, we have a few tips that we hope will help. The descale process was not recognised by your machine. A process may have been skipped or carried out too quickly. Assuming you have already run descaler through the machine please carry out the following steps to resolve this.

-Ensure the tank contains at least two inches of water.

-Press and hold the descale button for a slow five seconds. The coffee lights will now flash to say you are no longer able to make coffee. Your machine is now in descale mode.

-Place a jug underneath your steam valve and open the steam valve FULLY.

-The machine will stop when the tank is empty.

-Close the steam valve.

-Remove your water tank and add at least two inches of water again.

-Place it back into the machine.

-Open the steam valve fully again. This time the water will run straight through the machine without pause.

-Once the tank is completely empty close the steam valve and the machine will turn itself off.
