The best Vacuum Cleaner I have ever owned – I bought my Dyson DC08 in 2002 and it has never missed a beat. Quite truthfully, the best Vacuum I have ever owned. It has never been serviced or repaired, so seriously good value-for-money. Show details

Best vacuum ever – We bought our dc08 turbine in 2006 to replace our old Volta bagged. It was just incredible the amount of Dirt it was getting out of the carpet. the motor was replaced in 2014 so and we bought a hard floor tool for it. We still have it and it’s is working like a champ. Show details

Vacuuming all over the world with my Dyson – Oddly, my wife kinda purchased the Dyson DC08 Animal for me as a 30th birthday gift, I think she thought she was funny, little did she know how much I appreciated good engineering and something with more suction than a, well, a Dyson? Originally purchased in London, England, the DC08 is now living out here in Australia having made the journey in… Read more

a cold metal container with the rest of my household goods. The Dyson started its life in a warm and cosy flat in SW5 with nice new carpet and really very little 'hard graft' but all of that changed when we moved to the "Lucky Country" ...not lucky for him, the floors were partly wooden with many cracks, cobwebs and potential man-eating spiders, as well as 45-year-old carpets with fragile and disintegrating rubber underlay, and dirt! he was also subjected to the car! I have two boys, now aged 5 and 9, so DC08 has been there for them for their entire lives, sucking up their muddy footprints, their "look at this amazing piece of tree bark that I just crunched into the carpet, dad!" and everything in between. A sad day came earlier in the year, keeping in mind he's been around for 14 years, moved house three times, travelled across continents, when he refused to start - I pressed the start button (usually with my foot) and nothing! A little Googling and I found an article about a switch that may give me grief after a few years of use, well, we're 14 years in and after 20 minutes of tinkering with said switch, he's back in action! The thing won't die and still sucks just as hard as the day he arrived with us. Good job, Dyson.

You complete me – After using a Dyson vacuum in the UK, I fell in love with them. Vacuuming the fall of a long haired dog twice daily and anything else that made its way into the carpet from a family with three boys.. HELL YEAH!!! So, three years later, in my own place with a new baby, I bought one. A DC08ORIGIN, way out of my budget as a single mum, but I've… Read more

always gone for durability and function over fashion, so I made the investment. (Not that Dyson isn't fashionable, because it is. I'm just not known for it.)

Now, 12 years later, the hose has deteriorated and split near the handle and the handle has completely broken. We have an excellent Dyson Repair store called The VacShop nearby. Darrin was able to fashion a new handle from one of the newer models, to fit our baby and trimmed the hose and re-attached it as well as replacing the yellow/blue filter assembly. It's a discontinued machine and the spare parts are no longer available either. I'm so glad he's a Mr-Fixit! A better decision to repair than to replace in this throw away world we live in. The reviews of the more recent models aren't encouraging, my heart couldn't handle purchasing a Dyson dud. Made to fail, that's all I hear about most appliances... Gonna keep my DC08 going as long as I can...

Still going strong – This marvellous machine is around 13 years old now and still going strong. If only all appliances were like this. ($20 delivered) , cleaned out the cyclone assembly once and replaced the bin assembly once ($41 delivered). FYI they are known to loose suction but really easy and cheap to fix. Don't take it to a store. Test the obvious, no blockages in your hose or wand or handles. Then check the washable filter is not blocked. After that the cyclone assembly can get blocked (especially if you ever sucked up anything wet), it is really easy to pull apart and clean (just search youtube for instructions) or if you're not inclined to fix stuff yourself buy a new one for $60. After that the rubber seal in the bin assembly needs to be tight, you'll notice loss of suction and the washable filter gets dirty real fast if this is not sealing properly. So in short if you have one of these beauties and getting low suction you can replace everything yourself for $120 if you're not handy or $61 if you're willing to pull apart the cyclone and clean it.

Old school Dyson so much better than new models – I have owned a Dyson DC08 for over 10 years and love it. Had the engine replaced in its 8th year which was far cheaper than a replacement machine which you can't get anyway as they are discontinued but It still works perfectly. rubbish compared to the old school design which I have reverted back to using. I wasted over $1000 on a machine that does not do what it claims. It blow dust and dirt everywhere if you can get it to pick it up in the first place my stick Dyson has better suction. It is very awkward and messy to empty and the new ball technology is a joke, there is no stability and it tips over at the turn of a hat. Mr Dyson WAS truly the innovator of the bag less vacuum when he designed his first models in the UK but it now seems since VSI in Malaysia has taken over manufacturing his good name has gone to the dogs. There are hundreds of bad reviews all over the Internet for the DC54 range which mind you is the most expensive too, that surely would ring warning bells for Dyson. I will be returning my DC54 and possibly look at purchasing a completely different brand.

It just lasted -quality product – this vacuum cleaner is the best I have ever had. It lasted for 15 years on the original motor cleaning a smallish house at least once every week. That has been my only issue.

Dyson created a quality product with the DC08 and I await my BigBall delivery to see the engineering changes for which Dyson is famous.

If there was one fault, it would be that when it tipped over it stayed down so fortunately it did not tip over that often.

I want to cry.....They no longer repair them! – Purchased 23/07/2003 from Harvey Norman for $550.00 after a discount from $699. Big bucks for those days! Having worked as a cleaner and used lots of the newer models in the past, nothing came close to this model. Nice long cord, metal wand and it worked brilliantly.

I've been without it for over a month as I can't bring myself to spend $999 on a cordless stick.

If you still have a working machine, treasure it.

Best Vacuum Cleaner I've ever owned – This machine has lasted me 15 years now and is still going strong. Don't think I'd get another – It cleans well and has lasted more than 10 years with only a few parts needing to be replaced. The large turbo head does a greate job on crpet. But it is very expensive once you get all the accessories and many of the other attachements perform no better or even sometimes worse than cheaper cleaners. It is also rather noisey. I wont start shopping for a replacement until it dies, but when I do I don't think it will be a dyson.

Love This Machine – My machine wasn't cheap and has had a lot of use over the years, on all kinds of floor surfaces, and is still working. In my job, I've used many different brands over the years. I've found the newer Dyson's to be not a pinch on this model. It's sturdily built and somewhat of a "Goliath" to me. I would seriously consider spending the money to have it fixed when it finally stops.  Show details

Good, but not perfect – The DC08 HEPA is a pretty good product. The design of the tube connecting to the front is much better than the side connect models, as the front nose breaks on them. Just to see what else it could do after emptying that lot, I thought I'd try it on the pillow & bedsheets & it picked up all the dead skin cells that I thought were my clean bed sheets?

It's a devil of a powerful machine that I'll definitely keep, I sold my other $129 HEPA vacuum "wanna be" for $20 just to get it out of my sight & stop taking up room. Only thing missing is the plastic drapes attachment & the turbo head which I'd love to get my hands on if I could cheaply enough. All up I'd give it a 4 out of five due to the loud motor when operating but the one I sold was no better noise wise anyway, cant complain about the major upgrade in sucking power I have now though.

Tough as nails – I purchased one of these second hand to try out for work. I am in the renovation industry and have tried many different vacuums from large industrial to commercial back pack down to el-cheapo's. This would have to be the best by far overall. It gets used almost every day for sucking up concrete dust, plaster dust, saw dust and of course cleaning… Read more

clients carpet, driveways and anything that needs cleaning after a day’s work.

It comes home with me on weekends and gets used in the workshop sucking up bog dust, fibre glass dust, leaves from the yard, metal filings from grinders and drills off the workshop floor then back to work Monday. I do not recommend you do this to your Dyson as it will void your warranty, this is why I purchased second hand.

It is small enough to use and work around in tight places like bathrooms and halls, (this is down side of commercial types) and still have as much if not more suction. It doesn't take up very much space in the van.

Despite the hype they do loose suction when pushed hard, especially with plaster and concrete but I keep a spare pre-filter set on hand and swap them over and all suction is restored.

They have a thermal cut out switch that is very difficult to get to activate but does cut out when overheated. (Once only when connected to a handheld concrete mower and filled every 2 minutes with fine dust)

Like everything, all good things come to an end. My DC08 HEPA passed away while doing some fibre glass work and was left running for maybe an hour while sucking up dust from a sander. I suspect the reason was because I started using a Non genuine pre-filter a few months before hand, allowing dust to enter the motor and the brushes wore out and it started making an electrical arcing sound and a brown smell. It then refused to re start.

RIP On closer inspection the Non genuine filter has much larger holes/bubbles than the super fine genuine one. Lesson learned. Never use a Non genuine filter.

So if this baby can last around 4 years with punishment like that (Not sure what sort of life it had before me) it should last about 500 years in a domestic environment.

I have just purchased a used DC11 HEPA. This baby is even more powerful and is only 10 years old so it should (Hopefully) have a few good years of abuse in front of it. Look out for my review of that one soon. Great suction, light weight, no after costs with bags etc. Barrel is a little fiddly to get back together after empting it. months instead of twice a year which they state in the manual. Suction improves but only for the next couple of vacuums.

The two reasons why I've kept this machine till now.

It cost me a small fortune and took me two years to pay it off!I don't much.

Secondly I live in a tiny apartment on my own (no pets) so the suction although pathetic, gets me by.I still walk around picking up some bits that are left behind!

When it finally gives up the ghost I will happily replace it with a miele.

My reasons for buying the product in the first place was because of the supposed great suction, the fact it was bagless and that it was from a dependable brand. How wrong was I!

Save your hard earned money folks either buy a miele or a cheap vacuum from target. Looks fantastic! Good range of attachment tools. Expensive for nothing! heavy, cumbersome pile of junk! Terrible suction. Difficult to pull along, hose twists, machine tips over
