of the GJ Gardener employees . My reflection now is 5 years later and I will say you get what you pay for . If you asked me do I think this house will be around in 15 years I'd have to say no , the quality is not there , I am getting cracking in one bathroom , I can see daylight through my front doors , is it sealed for heat retention ? probably not . The Bifold doors and windows are cheap ( I blame myself in part for not being on top of the items included in the build , if your not you will just get the cheapest ) I have already had to dowel and rescrew door hinges . I've had to remove the silicon around the bath tub and redo it . I have 2 different styles of architrave through the house in the main living areas its just cheap . One of the things I sourced myself was the flooring and carpet but when I asked to have the contactors come in and install these items before any architraves were installed I was given a flat no , they said safety issue , really ? The internal paint used is cheap , everything really has been done as cheap as they could do it , get in get out . The outside of the house is Hardi plank weatherboard and the joins are already starting to come apart and will require filling and then obviously re-paint . The internal wall frames have no noggins , this was something that I did manage to see and question and was told it's just the way they do it. All that was installed in the framing was 1 inch dowel placed about 3/4 of the way up the studs this was used to keep spacing . A lot of this might seem trivial to some but on reflection if you can afford it go to a proper licenced builder where you have better control of your build or be onsite 80% of the time the build is happening and stand up for what you expect . Again you get what you pay for and quality is not one of them after 5 years . I am adding to my review after having a GJ Gardner representative make a visit to assess my complaints and be able to respond to my complaints The visit lasted over an hour where all issues were pointed out , it was agreed the architraves were not what was agreed on , the rep was asked what he thought the finish on the paint was he responded with Mat finish... not what was asked for , he also took photos of the poor quality paint , the crack in the ensuite wall , the architraves coming away from the walls , the weather boards joint's where the filler at the joints had fallen out and joints not connected properly , he did say he was going to Hardys and would get back to me on what would fix the issue... Nothing On leaving the rep made a point of saying he was not at my house to look to repair anything he just wanted a chance to respond to my complaints Again quality is not something that shows up 5 years after the build

Finally! Great bunch of people – I recently completed a duplex build in Narrawallee with GJ Gardner Shoalhaven. With the talk of all the building companies collapsing over the year I was quietly cautious when I'd hear things in the news... but the weekly communication from Mel on the progress of the build without me even enquiring was something that helped with my confidence… Read more ·  1

Even with the crazy weather delays that were experienced at the start they managed to pull through and get everything completed on time.

The build is perfect, high quality and everything we asked for.

Post handover there were some unforeseen issues with landscaping/retaining that would have been easy for another builder to hand off and say "it's not our problem anymore now we have handed over" but they went above and beyond to assist and over-deliver to ensure things were sorted. This was the highlight for me, knowing they still cared even after their part was done.

Thanks to Mel, for all the communications and help - she definitely deserves employee of the month for putting up with me! And Jason & Garrett the foreman for helping ensure this guy who doesn't know one end of a brick to the other could understand what was going on through the whole process.

Definitely recommend.

All the way throughout the build our site supervisor was outstanding. Keeping us updated on how the build was going every week- even with delays due to bushfires and excessive rain, they still delivered our stunning home on time. It really felt we were part of the family and that they pulled out all the stops to deliver our dream home. We have been in our house now for 6 months and can't fault it. Communication was outstanding. I received a phone call every single Friday with a progress update, and if I happened to miss the call, they would follow up with an email to ensure I was always kept fully informed. That level of consistency and transparency gave us great confidence throughout the build. A special mention to Skye and Mel, who were both fantastic throughout the process. They were always professional, helpful, and approachable, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. Their support and organisation really made a difference. On site, Garret (Supervisor) was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Nothing was ever an issue, and he was always friendly, professional, and solution-focused. By the time we reached practical completion, he had already identified and marked the minor items that needed attention to ensure the homes were 100% ready for handover. That proactive approach really demonstrated the pride they take in their work. The build quality itself is exceptional. The attention to detail and overall finish exceeded our expectations, and we are extremely happy with the final result. Another aspect that truly impressed us was the integrity shown throughout the contract process. The contract allowed for provisional allowances for unknown expenditure, such as additional site preparation and manual handling due to restricted access. I had fully expected that these amounts would be charged, as they were clearly provided for in the contract. To my genuine surprise, we were not charged these amounts. That not only impressed us financially, but more importantly demonstrated their honesty and transparency. Overall, the entire process was easy, professional, and enjoyable from start to finish. We would 100% recommend building with them and wouldn’t hesitate to do so again ourselves.

We’ve had a stress free build due to excellent communication, professional and caring staff and tradies, and build completed in seven months. final cost was what was agreed upon with no surprises which is what I was worried about. I really can’t speak highly enough of the staff… I was kept informed at all times & felt comfortable with the build progress even though I was living 2 hours away. The build was completed 4 weeks earlier than expected, due in part to favourable weather, but also due to the companies time management. Thank you so much for all your care.
