ensure we were travelling as expected and to raise any concerns we may have had. On a few occasions we were caught in a jam with external stakeholders, in which case, the builder went in to bat for us and on one occasion, did it without us knowing, which just shows the level of commitment they had to us as customers.

We have built three times now, and given the current circumstances surrounding the building industry with price hikes and delays, we had a relatively smooth process and I'd be confident in saying this was by-far our most pleasurable and enjoyable build we have had.

A few small critical pieces of feedback however - the electrician didn't execute common sense when it came to positioning of switches/lights etc. Two downlights in the bedroom over the bed were wired together rather than apart and a light for the hallway was placed in the middle of the hallway rather than at either end. We take partial blame for not being more thorough but common sense didn't prevail here.

There was a retaining wall that needed to be built post construction that wasn't discussed during the build. This was disappointing but we moved past this.

started building, we had Dave as our site supervisor who was equally as amazing and very detailed in his approach to making our house beautiful. It was a quick and easy process once the building started due to the detailed work that went in prior to the build which showed. Since handover we’ve shown people our house and they all have commented on how lovely it is and the level of detail that has been taken to build this house. We will always recommend GJ Gardner Wodonga specifically Jade, Dave, Katie, Pauline, Simone and Adam for their hard work and dedication to our project throughout the 2 years. We must admit there were times when things were not quite as we had imagined along the way, but that happens at times when home building. At each time this happened it was sorted super quickly and always with a ambition going the extra mile to make sure that we the customer were satisfied with the results. After what felt like a long wait for land titles, the process of getting the building plans finalised, colours selected and the building of the house happened at lightening speed. The colour consultant Kylie was amazing! We showed her some photos of houses and colours we liked and she was able to help us achieve what we'd imagined. She had great advice for different options we could go with which was nice too.

The estimator Greg was great. He was quick getting back to us with any pricing questions we had.

Their account system was really efficient. The progress payments were explained to us early on so there were no surprises for us once construction started. Simone sent everything off to us & our bank quickly each time the next stage was due which helped everything move along smoothly.

Our construction supervisor Tristan was awesome! Always had time to answer our questions and available to do walk throughs when we requested.

The whole team and their trades have been amazing and we can't thank them all enough. We're so happy with our new home. It really is a dream come true for us!

the building supervisor who oversaw the whole build and he was wonderful, also patient and nothing seemed too much trouble, I felt he went over and beyond his duty, and he always responded to my calls, as did Bruce. Tristan always seemed to have a smile even when I raised any questions or concerns, which overall were few in the scheme of things, they were small and very quickly dealt with. A special mention for Katie who was also always pleasant, helpful and responsive to my queries. Colour selection was made easier with the assistance of Kylie. My new home is not the top of their range by any means but I am thrilled with the workmanship and the quality of fittings and fixtures, most of which are standard, but I have learnt GJ Gardner Wodonga standard level choices is sometimes superior to some other builders. I had visitors on the weekend who said they felt like they were staying in an upmarket holiday house/apartment. Of course I have learnt a lot in the process and there are some things I would do differently if I ever built again but, but I would not change the builder I would definitely build with them again and would recommend GJ Gardner Wodonga to anyone thinking about building a new home in this area.

wanted a separate wing for mother-in-law and guests, with their own bathrooms. The master wing would be on the opposite end, with the communal areas in the middle, and a big media room. We wanted lots of light, lots of outdoor space and we wanted a level dwelling for ease when we all get older. Most of all, we wanted a house that didn’t cost a fortune to run.

We found the GJ Gardner Rochedale design on the internet and it seemed to suit perfectly. It’s actually 3 buildings in one, connected with breezeways. It filled all our requirements straight away but needed internal modifications and some tweaking to make it our home. So, armed with this design, we approached GJ Gardner Wodonga and said “We absolutely love this house, but we want to change almost everything.”

They couldn’t have been easier to deal with. After reading the horror stories of custom builders on the internet, we were apprehensive when we first approached the Wodonga team, but after one day of consultation our doubts were wiped away, and we said “we can build our dream house with these guys.”

That conclusion has never changed. All through the consultation, design, building process and handover, we have felt completely at ease with Adam, Tristan, Danny, Bruce, Kylie and the rest of the team at GJ Gardner Wodonga. We got straight answers, straightforward and upfront costings, no hidden or nasty surprises, and it was a really pleasurable experience. There were some minor issues, but all were resolved with good ideas and collaboration, and we never felt that anything was pushed upon us or wasn’t what we wanted. There was always a good solution to every problem.

We also felt our dream was in good hands all the way. Most of all, the quality of the building team and subcontractors has been superb. The walls are dead straight. The kitchen and cabinets have been made with great care, attention to detail and precision. The rendering on the outside is to die for. The painting, electrical fittings, plumbing and tiling are faultless. The Wodonga office makes sure its tradespeople are of the standard they require, and it shows.

What was especially impressive happened when we had to push the end date forward to accommodate the sale of the rental house we were living in. The Wodonga team moved heaven and earth to ensure we were in by our new date. But nothing was done poorly or incorrectly. It was amazing to watch it all come together so well.

We feel we have made friends with the whole team, not just the builders, but also the support staff and consultants. We have watched the process all the way from close by, and couldn’t feel happier or more satisfied with the outcome.

for the first time we did not know where to start. We looked at various builders in Wodonga from alphabet A to D to H to S (few calls, meetings, visit to website & some online reviews) and finally took the plunge into the world of unknown. Selecting Hadar Homes, - the big deposit, the upfront cost, the unforetold cost, the hidden cost, the variation cost, the unforeseen cost, the forbidden cost etc. etc. and the slow pace gave us sleepless nights with our heads spinning dizzy and we had a little over 3 months left in time to start building. We were still nowhere. Costs after cost were listed, we just could not come to an agreement. Looking at what we would be spending and still not be getting the house we wanted, I shut the door on this project. Lost a little over $4k on our $5K initial deposit (normally the initial deposit should be between $1500/- to $3000/-), cited yet again as time and drafting and land evaluating costs.

3 months and a week left for us to move in if we could, with $4K loss already. All we own at this stage is a piece of land still under contract.

Reluctantly, I picked the phone and gave this project my final try with yet another builder - Alphabet G. ENTER the lovely people at GJ Gardeners, in Wodonga.

A simple phone call, a meeting on site the same day, then at their office and decision reached in 2 days. Most importantly all cost was upfront and instantaneous - purged out from the computer within a single meeting at their office in black and white, no beating around the bush, no dilly-dallying, no preliminary contract, no hidden costs or bla bla bla costs, straight answers either in “yes we can do and accommodate your request” or “no we can’t”, quality was as per display home, and house as per custom design, upgraded list of inclusions was pre-printed brochure that we were entitled to for our build. Our custom designed house was starting to look a reality - 3 months and 4 days left to move in.

We finally slept peacefully after a long time, the same night after we had signed a very straight forward contract, explained and understood in detail with no lawyer needed. The designing on CAD, modifications, variations, finalization, site dig, slab laid and frame up all happened in a flash within 2 weeks. WOW!! The complete building experience was simply great.

All requests whilst the house was going up was accommodated, the owners of business always had a very welcoming smile. They themselves took interest in our build - hands on and I guess with all other builds too.

2 days left to move in; the stars of GJ Gardner not only completed our house within 3 months including getting us the occupancy certificate, but built the house to high standards/quality.

NOW, having experienced a build, I am aware that not all builders follow the same procedure or process or quality for building the house (observed a few being built next doors by other builders). I would not have it any other way than what GJ Gardner’s have built for us here in Wodonga. 7 STARS.

I’m writing this review after 4 months of moving into our lovely place. They even have 3 months after - a courtesy maintenance program. Not that we had many issues, just a handle or two coming off in the kitchen drawers and few marks on the wall. All these were fixed to satisfaction and the house is looking great. I wish I had met the entire GJ Gardner team earlier.

In fact they completed the home to a very high standard prior to the estimated time advised during my initial consultation. I have built on 2 prior occasions and I am very fussy, but with this home I have to give GJ Gardner of Wodonga a 10/10. They definitely delivered a wonderful home.
