I’m Not sure what you’re meant to do Joanna but I have mine on the floor. It works fine now that I have peeled off the top paper

I pulled the white lead by mistake. Is there an issue with this?

If you mean you removed the white outer layer that you're not meant to, no problem. I removed mine because it didn't seem to be working with it on. Seemed to help actually.

What humidity would be maintained in a seald cupboard with a hippo in it? Would it be roughly zero percent if no air/moisture got inside?

To what level must the water be in the container before they are finished working…I found an old one up to the lid with water… I have been throwing mine away when the water is half way and wondering if I have been wasting them

Hi, On the back of the container, you will see a label. On the label, right hand side you will see 'line marks', when the water reaches upto 'yellow' line it is time to replace. With the latest ones I have purchased,I'm not sure what is happening, same as some other people, the 'bead/powder' product is becoming hard, and actually no water is appearing at bottom of container, as they did prior, with 'old ingredient'. I contacted the company , it went to voicemail, left my details but ,no response ,so I'm unsure if they can answer why it now goes hard.

I have, had a hippo absorber in the room for a month but no liquid. The beads seem to be stuck together. Would this mean its no good?

I never used the little buckets. I only used the sachets and they worked great in drawers because, for months, there was no dampness smell at all...

Hi. I have a Hippo moisture absorber. I have removed the foil cover but have not removed the white paper cover as directed. I have had the container in my spare room for over a month now & there is absolutely no moisture collecting. This is a moist room and definitely should be collecting liquid. I can't understand how it works though if the white paper is still on the top. I have other brands that do not have the paper on top that have worked well in this room but they were out of stock so i purchased yours instead. Am I doing something wrong? Lee

No, you are not doing anything wrong. The white paper should remain on. I have never removed the white paper and it collects water. However, since buying a dehumidifier there is a lot less water (humidity) in the rooms so less water is being picked up by the Hippos. Some still pick up water, depending where they are located, while others remain dry. I would highly recommend buying a dehumidifier as they are incredible. It's astonishing how much water they collect out of the air. But pick carefully as some are better than others; also, some are way more noisy to operate. Mine is an ausclimate (35L).

Thanks so much for your response. Good to know I'm not using it incorrectly. I already have a really good dehumidifier which is great, but I only use that around once a month & use the Hippo in between using that. The hippo is used only in one room & another brand in the other rooms as they were out of stock for months. Theses other brands always collect quite a bit of liquid where as the Hippo does not, which is why I was concerned if I was using it correctly.

Hi, I have been using 'hippo's' for number of years, and they always collected water in bottom, which could be clearly seen.Peel off 'silver foil', and leave white paper,to absorb moisture. BUT, I purchased some in bulk as I use a lot in my rooms, I too have noticed, since purchasing these 'newer'ones, after 4-6 weeks, in a room, they are NOT absorbing moisture/water, as they once used to do, & the 'powder/beads' are extremely hard,& remain, whereby they used to basically dissolve, were never hard, & 'dissolved' &only left liquid/water in bottom as could be seen, this would show on the 'lines' on side of package how much water it had collected. I presumed these were 'seconds/duds', but they were & are genuine. I'm wondering if a different absorbing product is being used ,thus, this is NOT as good product as they used to be,which is a pity. I also noted that they used to have a slight nice perfume when peeling off, the foil, however this time it was very minimal.,& hardly noticable, Very very disappointing as they are not cheap, but I did find them better than 'damp-rid', for my situation, now as others appear to be having & experiencing same issue with product as myself, then definatley something has been changed. Maybe the 'company' can enlighten us of product absorber change. If they remain the same I will not be buying anymore, as they are not working effectiveley anymore. Such a Shame.

How do you dispose off the Hippo after its use? No instruction anywhere :(( Do I just throw it into the waste full of liquid or punch a hole, drain that liquid (water?) into toilet and then throw away? Thank you.

Sudha

Water can be safely disposed in your toilet. Throw the container into the recycle bin.

Hi there, where did you find these Thirsty Hippo disposal instructions from? Just curious because I cannot find info anywhere even on the manufacturer's website. Just want to make sure the liquid that collects over time is safe to be thrown in the toilet/drain and doesn't contain chemicals. Thanks!

How long till I can know that the product is working? I placed it in my store room a week ago but until now I can see that liquid at the bottom part that says it should be there? Please advise

June

The liquid will only be collected when the air has high humidity, up in Queensland it only takes a few weeks for the container to fill in the summer months hope this helps it does work I use them all the time to stop mould forming.

Jackel

I’ve been using the container type which there is no problem at all and yours should be working. The moisture absorber that I’m saying is the package type that will turn jelly after absorbing the moisture and it leaks after 2–3 weeks.

We placed a hippo up in the entrance cupboard and it is half full of water in 3 months. Does this mean there is a possible roof leak above or just that its humid part of the house?

June

we use them all through the house in the summer and have to change them every 3rd week because they are full of water, because of the humid conditions up in Qld and find the product prevents mild dew and mould

It would be humidity. Running the Air Conditioner will help to remove the humidity as well.
