when stationary and transmission in neutral, the brakes work fine. It will not engage any gears as the clutch does not seem to work. it also starts in gear, but no brakes and clutch, I have to kill the engine to stop. What could be the cause and how do I fix the problem?

I changed the deck belt on my husquvarna LT19538B with a A2370 instead of a A2380 and not it wont start. I couldn't get the standard belt and didn't thing 10mm shorter would be a problem. Now the belt stays engaged causing the starter motor to try to turn the engine and blades.

Just move the gear selecter to reverse and take your foot of the clutch

Sorry no not problem I've had. On mine you increase the revs via the handle on the left and select either forward or reverse via the 2 foot pedals on the right. to date ive had no issues - you probably need to get it looked at. I assume you have the blades up?

Mine hasn’t a foot pedal for gears, it has a leaver like the cutter height lever

No forward or reverse motion, altough the drive belt is in good condition and correctly installed. What could the problem be?

My LT 19538 jumps or jerks when I take my foot off the brake/clutch pedal to put the mower in motion. It happens regardless of what speed is set.

How do I fix it to make it smooth and more comfortable to operate?

I make the following assumptions. It is hydrostatic drive system. It is a foot operated forward and reverse pedal. On releasing the clutch / brake (without your foot on the forward and reverse pedal) it does not move in any direction. - If it moves the forward and reverse pedal needs to be adjusted to the nutral position by your service person? - If it does not move. However when you depress the pedal to go forward or reverse it then is jerky in take off the hydrostatic drive system is likley to be low in oil and is starving for drive fluid, again a job for your service person to top the oil level up in the drive system. Hope this helps.
