I am looking at buying a 2013 yth2242tdrf. It has 200 hours on the meter, cuts well, steering slides a bit in tight turns. We have about 1 acre of lawn on a fairly steep slope (approx 10-15 degrees). Takes 1.5 hours to mow my lawn and needs mowing in the November to March period probably every 2 weeks. Any thoughts on suitability and price?

My YTH2242TDRF has just started a noise coming from I think the drive traction belt -If you put the foot brake on it goes away - Is there a bearing on top of transmission ?

I'm constantly replacing the wheel bearings on my ride on. Any idea why?

Make sure you replace them with the rubber sealed type bearings (2RS). Also, try prying out the rubber seal on one side with a razor blade and finger jamming more grease in the bearing balls before installing. They come pretty dry from factory and the extra grease won’t hurt.

I've read several poor reviews on the Husqvarna lawn tractors. Seems like the majority of the reviews are on late model tractors where problems occur fairly quickly after purchase, usually within the first season. I'm looking at purchasing a 10-year-old YTH2242 with 200 hours hour. Were they better built 10 years ago, or has Husqvarna always been an inferior lawn tractor?

I bought one 2242 about 5 years ago and had no problems with it. I do all my own servicing to reduce costs. One battery failed so I made the battery box bigger and put in a automotive battery. Starts easier.

We have just bought another one and I have had it for 2 months and so far no problems.

I am an ex professional engineer now retired and think the design is simple and good.

The Husqvana's have a good reputation out here. (South Africa).

I look after about 4 km of conservancy along the local river. The going is quite tough and I regularly stall the motor with heavy thatching grass but no after effects.

I can't comment on 10-year-old Huskies as I have never owned one but I think you could be buying problems with everything worn out.
