Hi Brendan - thank you for your question. When operating the slide from left to right, if you peer through the open slot in the panel above the door, you will actually be able to see the air intakes being covered and uncovered as you slide the control. Obviously the more uncovered/open the intake slots air, the faster/hotter the fire will burn. If we can clarify anything additional for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sorry I'm unable to advise, have a look at look at the reviews online of the Jindara Kimberley, it looks good but has issues like smoke up glass, but most importantly inadequate air flow to the fire. I don't know of other in builts on the market. Our Kimberley works very well, PROVIDED you establish a good bed of coals and keep the fire going flat out. If you try to reduce the fire it becomes very hard to recover.

Unless the log you put in fell on the glass, I have no ideas.If you contact AF Gason in Ararat they should help with a replacement Window.Do you have any idea how old the heater is it might still be under warranty.Hope this is a help. Lucky G.

its 8 years old nothing touched the door i was super careful - i only have small logs which were all well back and there was no ash build up as it was the first time it had been used in a year they guy at the local repairs said they often go after 7-8 years idk but it makes it a very expensive day of heating - $1000 to repair :/

Hi Lisa, The short answer is that it can be difficult to pinpoint what exactly would have caused the glass to crack after 8 years of use. Potential causes could include; impact from wood; small explosion from the combustion process sending a small projectile into the glass; slight warping of the door frame; or; parts simply getting old and worn.

A replacement glass for the Kimberley retails around $230 (depending on your location). If you contact your local Jindara dealer they would be able to quote you on a replacement door glass and may be able to fit it for you on request. Jindara dealers: external link 

thanks ive worked it out it is a combination of the door needing adjustment and the plate at the front of the unit not being replaced properly after it was cleaned so the point of the plate has impacted with the glass I was quoted $1000 to replace it but the landlord has found a place that can fix it for lesss we literally used the appliance once but unfortunately we were the first to use it after the clean

Its not stuffed. They're a well built Ozzie unit. You are probably not using it correctly. Set the blower to the lowest setting. Should be almost inaudible. Rotary switch has four settings if it's anything like my Pilbara. Off/low/noisy/loud. Lowest setting is used for all night drying of clothes. 2 & 3 are used to disperse heat for a short while after blast off. Use the blower settings in conjunction with central aircon set to "Fan" to heat the house. The central aircon gathers the heat from the ceiling (which is where all your hot air from the heater goes) and then disperses warm air where you want it. Select whatever rooms to circulate the warm air to using the aircon on 'fan only". Heats the house quickly and cheaply. Once house is warm turn off air con circulation, knock heater blower back to "silent" and if necessary, close doors to bedrooms to create a temperature differential so that living areas are warm and bedrooms a bit cooler. That way everyone gets a good night's sleep. Overheating bedrooms does not do anyone any favours.

That only works ina a ouse on a slab!

Check the cord inside the glass door. It may have become loose. Other than that, no idea, sorry.

Check that the door latch has not become loose it may need to be adjusted.

Yes, I did check it and while it is a bit 'frayed', it is still sitting in its 'slot'. It feels like there is something solid preventing it from closing. I had just put a couple of logs in, so now I can't close the door, the house is filling with smoke (a perennial problem since I bought this house a couple of months ago).

Not at all happy Jindara, so I will be replacing with another brand as soon as I can. This is very dangerous, not being able to close the door ... I will have to stay up until the fire is totally out so I can watch for sparks.

The door doesn't even get close to the latch! There is a three or four inch gap. I just can't understand why, all of a sudden, it would do that.

Yep. My Pilbara does that. Solution is simple. Open the door fully, put on your boots and kick that plate at the bottom of the door as if it was your husband's head. Door will now shut. The entire heater is made of inter connected parts that fit together like a jigsaw. This is to allow movement from expansion & contraction and easy replacement of any components that may warp or burn.

I think its a fault with Jindara heaters they will not draw check and see if your fan is working am still waiting for some one from Jindara to ring me after five years no one has rang Regards John

Don't know about that John. I had a Hammersly before this one and it threw that much out we could heat the whole house with it. The Hammersly is also a Jindara. Sad that no one has got back to you after 5 years. Thanks for your info John. Cheers

expensive exercise to replace a heater only to find it doesn't do the job. :(( Lynda

Thanks for the Lynda. I talked to a guy in the Melbourne office and he gave me a little bit of advice but still didn't rectify the problem. What I did do myself though I drilled some 4mm holes along the ash deflector plate. Then I saw how the fan was sitting at a funny angle so I put a steel bar under it to lift it to a more direct force to the back of heater. This seems to made the heater perform somewhat better but I still think it isn't as good as it should be. I also adjusted the door handle so as it would not close as tight on seal. That can be done by taking the grub screw out and winding the handle in about 5 turns. Airflow into the heater seems to be the biggest problem. Check to see if your heater is under warranty before you modify things as it may void it. Hope you have some luck with it.
