Why does our D100 keep throwing belts? It has about 30 hours and mows about 1 tenth of an acre of back and front yard. Anyone else have this problem?

Michael J.

Which belt? I assume your referring to the deck belt. The flat piece of steel that the tensioner is mounted on, where the mounting bolt goes through the brakes, it wallows out and just a tiny bit of play around that bolt allows the pulley - which is mounted on the opposite end- to move up and down 2-3 inches thus being out of alignment with other pulleys and BLAM...it's off.

Can I run my D100 with the backup safety switch removed? Because of an injury I cannot turn around and hold the switch in. Is there a way to adjust the seat safety switch so I can sit on the edge of seat and not have it turn off

Hi buddy. Discontinued model. Honestly look at different brands. I’ve had nothing but drama with my D100. Traded in for a Toro. Awesome machine.

My blades used to shut off immediately when I turned the lever down. Now they just slow to a stop when I disengage them. What's could the problem be?

JD D100 when put in gear goes at half the speed.

There are brake pads on each spindle that press against the spinning spindles pulleys on the top side of the cutting deck when you release the cutting arm for mowing, these ware down or are out of adjustment making the blades spin slowly down until they stop

Added a small amount of 10-w30 oil before using mower, about 10 minutes later it started lots of white smoke coming out muffler. Never missed , kept running good. Oil level a 1/8 in above full line What's up with this? Thank you

braddenman117

Mine has white smoke and smells like something is burning for the first few moments of starting but clears and runs fine. It is burning some oil off but not sure where the leak is or why a less than 1 year old mower would be leaking.

Oil Level is too full, better to have a little under full on the dipstick...let it sit for at least 15 minutes after running it. make sure it is on level ground, then check the oil again. whenever you add oil to a lawn mower engine do it on level ground and never over fill it.

Was riding along and it stopped. Tried to restart, just get a click or two. Battery tests as full. Any help?

If its not turning at all, the motor has probably seized. They are having a problem with the 19HP Briggs engine and its pretty common in the D110 actually. This is exactly what happened to mine. Good luck with it. Still get it checked though.

How to engage my blades on my John Deere 100 series riding mower without switch?

Ted
Ted

Don’t quite understand your question, why would you be trying to engage the deck by not using a switch, that is it’s sole purpose, on the smaller JD’s the cutting blades are engaged manually with a lever, up market ones are engaged through a switch to a solenoid, if the cutting deck is not engaging with the switch turned you may have either a blown fuse, faulty switch or solenoid, I would check power supply first, I assume belts are intact?

My mower blocks every time I use it. I empty it as soon as the hopper full light comes on,or before but it always blocks and spews out the cuttings. Is this a common problem?

My JD100 lawn tractor will not engage 100% when put in gear.

It slightly grabs but no real engagement.

What is wrong?

Thanks

I have a D100 manual ride on, yesterday it was going well and bang it stopped. The motor is still running however what ever gear I put it in its still not going. Smoke was starting to come from underneath. Is it my transmission?

Tony

Sounds like a broken drive belt - hence the smoke. Have a look underneath and see if it's still intact!

Sounds to me like you blew out the belt that runs the blades. It's easy to replace yourself. It will be easier if you can remove the deck.

I replaced my blades and belt. Now when I start mower the belts spin all the time. Even with the lever in there is position. Why? What do I have hooked up wrong?
