John Deere X500 Select Series Questions & Answers
I have a John Deere X500 and it won't cut wet grass at all. The deck gets clogged up even with damp grass. The motor labours and strains under the heavy load because the grass is clogged up under the deck. The deck is too shallow and very bad design. What can be done about it?
My '16 X590 showed a thermometer looking symbol on the display. Anyone got info on this or what I might check? Thanks in advance. Gary Blackburn
On two (2) occasions now the right hand axle on my John Deere X500 ride on has SNAPPED CLEANLY leaving the rear right hand wheel lying on the ground ( same wheel, same side each time!!!) Could any one explain this??? Rather expensive fixes each time!!!
Suggest you contact Ride-On Lawn Mower Transmission Repairs at Smeaton Grange just north of Camden, NSW. These people specialise in Tuff Torq transmission repairs and you can contact them on 0418270274 or via website external link Explain the issue and they will have the answer and the resolution.
Thanks Jackson..... I've had the machine repaired by a local JD agent and it's a goer again. For how long before the next "axle snap" who knows! Time will tell. The agent informed me that it was caused (TWICE NOW-SAME SIDE AXLE) by "wear & tear". Surely a JD should perform better than this. The terrain the machine works in is rather steep in sections so that may have something to do with the problem....... Thanks again for your input... Stay safe.
Crankshaft size on X500
Cost of purchasing a 26 hp Kawasaki Engine fitted to replace the one currently fitted to my X500 ( Australian Dollars) ..... Also please advise where in Queensland the purchase could be made.
You need to check your operator's manual to see if your Kawasaki engine is the FH721 (25 HP) or the FS730V (24 HP). If you do not have the operator's manual, telephone your John Deere dealer with the PIN number (front right hand side on chassis) and they will tell you what model the engine is. Contact the small engine warehouse with the model number and they will courier a brand new Kawasaki engine to you or alternatively courier new pistons, bearings, crankshaft, etc. Cost for new engine is approx $2300. Thanks Jackson... your advice is very much appreciated. It would appear that the 1770hr operational work useage of my current John Deere X500 has reached the limit of its life now that the machine, when under workload is misfiring, surging, running erratically etc despite cleaning of carburettor, adjusting valve settings, new fuel line filter, new spark plugs, new air filter, new butterfly clip in carby, etc. My mechanic is at his "wits end" and knows not where to turn to remedy the problem. Cheers
.The x580 what are the pros and cons of this model and why can you get a better deal at one dealer better than you can at another on the same mode?
We have a large house block( 3 to 4 acres) rocky and on a slope . What ride on and why would you recommend please?
Thank you Penny
Get the x500 series 4wd diesel. They are brilliant!
Also the Kubota GR series are 4wd and shaft-drive transmissions. These Kubota GR series ride-on mowers are excellent.
Did some of the X500 JD models come with a 26hp engine???? I thought they had a 24hp in them.
Thanks
Dave
My X500 has a KAWASAKI FH721V motor with 25 HP
All I have seen have the 24--25 hp I'm looking at a 2014 model it has 25hp
My X500 has the Kawasaki FS730V engine. The X500 models up to 2010 are fitted with the Kawasaki FH721 which is 25HP.
I have read several reviews about the 54X mower drive belt rubbing the deck when connected to the power flow blower causing deck and/ot blower housing damage. What do you know about the problem and has JD developed a fix?
No idea sorry.
Does the JD X500 have a PTO? Can it run a 48 inch tiller? Or pull a plow attachment? Of fit a trailer? Or run a sprayer unit?
How much is the basic X50o and how much are the list of attachments?
Gary,
Check out the link below and you will see what timplements the tractor handles.

Garry, it will cost you a fortune to purchase the PTO with linkages & support brackets to fit to your X500 so you able to use a 48" tiller. It makes much more sense to purchase a small tractor (26HP-30HP) that has a FEL (4/1 bucket) and PTO. Take a look at the TYM T273HST tractor and the John Deere 3036E tractor.
