Hi, when I make bread dough it shakes and seems very unstable even at the lower speed of 3. Also when I whisk egg whits they never whisk up its like the attachment doesn't get into the full mixture. Any help or advice?
My one does the same rattles and shakes
Not that happy I think this is one of the fault with this model wish I knew I only brought and thought it would be great as I use to have a kenwood and lasted over 25yrs with no problems
Hello I’m wondering is there another bowl with handles that will fit the KVL4100S as I’m struggling with the bowl that came with my machine as my fingers cramp.
AGREED! Following this, as I was about to ask the same question. Seems the only model that doesn’t have a bowl with handles available - given it is so large, seems an odd design flaw. Many thanks
Hi Lozz, Any of the XL/Major 6.7l bowls will fit. Thanks, Kenwood
I have the same query - is it possible to please supply model numbers? All the bowls I see don’t list the KVL4100S as compatible and I’m reluctant to pay $100+ unless I know it will definitely fit. Thanks!
Hello. I am unsure whether the KVL4100 is a planetary or spiral mixer. And which kind is more suitable for me as a wife and baking is sometimes for joy and fun. Appreciate your advise.
Kenwood mixers such as the KVL4100 are planetary, this is better for everyday general, mixed usage. Spiral mixers are more common for professional bakeries that specialise in artisinal breads as they have one motor for the mixing tool, and one to spin the bowl. This generates lower heat and reduces risk of overfermentation but isn't as varied in usability as it isn't designed to be used for other activities like an orbital model such as KVL4100 is
Thank you very much
does it come with any attachments??
Mine came with a whisk, silicone edged mixer, kneader and k mixer
Hi Les, Our Kenwood Chef XL comes with a High quality K-Beater, whisk and dough hook so you can create a range of food with ease.
Hi there, I've just bought the XL Titanium today. I have a few questions. Please help. 1. Just wondering what's the maximum dough can I make at once? 2. What's the maximum speed I can use for the dough. I tried with the higher speed the machine starts to shake violently.
Thank you.
Hey, I have had my XL for close to 2yrs now and went through a lot of trial and (many) errors with bread and pasta dough. While the machine is pretty strong and will battle through quite a bit, it doesn’t have the weight to stay stable for big and thicker challenges. I also feel like it puts a lot of strain on what is still a small motor.
To answer your questions as directly as possible: 1. I maxed at about 1/2 the XL bowl for volume without feeling I was overloading the machine. This makes 2 decent sized loaves.
2. Anything more than setting 3-4 is often too much for dough as it shakes the machine but also starts adding a lot of friction and heat into the dough which you don’t really want. If you watch commercial dough machines they run at slow steady speeds which compare to about 2-3 on the XL in my opinion
Hope this helps
Thank you so much for sharing JCL. Really appreciate it. I haven’t tried with other attachment yet. I expect them to work well without shaking? Dough is always the tricky one. Is that right? I previously had the Kitchenaid but I felt it was a much smaller machine than this. Hopefully this will last longer.
I know that you asked this question 8 months ago but wanted to reply in case anyone else also had the same question. To build on JCL's answer above, I often use my XL 6100, which is a cheaper model but the same size to make a 1kg foccacia dough. This is definitely at the limit of what it is designed for, and I wouldn't want a very dry dough of that weight and put too much strain on the machine, but it has battled through without issue every time so far.
Thanks for the reply :)
Can I use a 4.6 lt bowl instead of the 6.7 lt bowl
Do t know. Sorry
Hi Joanne, With regard to using a smaller bowl, the 4.6 bowl is for the smaller Chief machine so should not be used with your, if you are wanting to mix smaller amounts you can adjust the mixing tools to as to insure your smaller batches are being properly mixed.
hi but will smaller bowl fit in xl machine too?
Is it normal for the machine to vibrate and shake that much, It seems that it's not stable at all in high speed?
Hi Wahab A, Can I ask what you are trying to mix at high speed. The machine can vibrate depending on what you are trying to mix ie if you are mixing a heavy mixture you need to start at a lower speed and move up to the high speed so that the mixture stays even within the bowl.
Agree with above.
However if it seems unstable at high speed when empty or thin mixes than that is abnormal.
Mine is very smooth (But noisy) at max speed when empty
Hi just wondering if you can get a smaller bowl for the Chef XL. Find the bowl that came with it a little large when doing small quantities?
Hey klsimpson09 thank you for your question, rather than have another bowl we have made our bowl tools adjustable. There is a spanner that you would have received with the machine and you can undo the nut on top of the tool and make it sit lower in the bowl. Here is the link to the video showing external link Please don't hesitate to ask anymore questions
Is the noise level exceed the allowed level and annoying to neighbors while doing it on high speed. I do believe every mixer has it own flaws? I am planning to buy it for mothers day gift.
I’d say that this is a noisy machine but your neighbours are pretty safe. The food processor attachment is intolerably loud just as a heads up. For most mixing I rarely use high speed other than for whipping and haven’t found the sound worse than say a blender.
Hope that helps
I just bough an Xl and cant figure out the speed to knead bread dough. And what is the min and max quantity and time to knead?Eg if 500gms takes 10 mins does 1kg take 20 mins? Thanks
Making bread was one of the main reasons I bought mine. I spent a lot of time looking for the answer to this question and in the end, the answer is that there is no wrong answer. Generally speaking I would suggest mixing by hand (spoon) initially just to get everything together a little bit. Then start at a slow speed until you have a ball forming, from there turn it up to around 3-4 (relatively low-moderate speed) for up to 10min of kneeding.
If you go too quickly the dough will fling off the kneeding tool and will heat up affecting the gluten.
Bread is fairly temperamental and affected by lots of factors so just play around a bit with what I’ve suggest above, hope it helps.
Thank you very much for your response. That explains why my gluten was breaking down. I was following the same procedure as my kenwood 4.8l titanium chef not realizing this bowl is soo much bigger needing a diff technique
Just bought mine. Only after a gre uses I can’t get it to release!!! Currently got a mix I can get out! It’s release is at the back. Please help!
Get in touch with company,or get partner to try to release,I’ve found that my whisk attachment does not get to bottom of bowl can’t get it down
I'm in agreement with Pammy, that sounds like a mechanical problem with the latch. Since the machine is brand new it will be covered under the initial manufactures warranty, I'd suggest cleaning it out and taking it back to the place of purchase. It's a hassle but they will often just replace it for you.
Hi Genevieve,
That's no good. If you can please give us a call on 1800 126 659 we will do our best to help out.
Regards, Kenwood
I bought it one month ago .I am so happy, but I thought it can mix minimum amount of egg and flour . I tried and didn’t work out. Does small bowl 4.6 fit for my bigger machine if bought separately ? Thanks
I regularly mix small quantities in my large bowl, however I find that you need to premix things a little when using the dough hook, otherwise it doesn't get enough 'grip' on the mixture to bring it together. The whisk and K-mix attachment both seem to be better at picking and combining small batches.
My recommendation is to use a spatula to help bring the dry and wet ingredients together slightly when working with small batches prior to turning on the mixer.
Hope this helps
