Kmart Anko 28L Benchtop Oven Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: KWS1528J-H8RDo you use top and bottom element for baking cakes and loafs and what temperature to have it on
First: this model is unfortunately no longer available for purchase But yes for baking I use both elements, middle position for shelf (and lowest position for deep baking tin provided). Standard recommended temperature for recipe and noting that one can usually only cook at one level at a time. If you fully fill both the shelf and the deep baking tray it seems to overheat and smoke.Currently carefully juggling a full Sunday lunch.
What does the blank square in the functions knob underneath the 150*oven mark mean??? Regards Geana
Hi there, that is part of the function settings for the knob, below.
The blank square indicates that no heating elements are on. What elements you choose is made from the center dial with positions being, Off, Top element on, bottom element on, both top and bottom elements on.
When you cook a roast or cake do you have top and bottom elements on
My hubby uses both elements
Hi I got this one today. I was expecting this one work for baking and steaming. But when I checked manual book, it states very very limited use and mostly concentrated on bread. Can I use only steam when I don’t need baking. What else we can cook in here?? Except very little stuff from manual user book. Thanks
Would you be able to share more information here: external link or call us on 1800 124 125 so our team can assist further.
We use ours for baking vegetables every night but have never used it for steaming. My husband read the manual and then sort of works out what temperatures to use (as I don't cook anymore), He just works out what he is going to cook and keeps an eye on the oven, to make sure it isn't burning. BTW he is close to 80 years old. He adjusts the temperature to suit.
Thank you so much. At least, I can bake vegetables now. Thanks

Can I bake a banana cake in my 28L anko oven and do I drop to a different temp. Please reply asp. Pauline.
Hi Pauline, the benchtop oven can be used in a similar fashion to a regular oven. We'd recommend checking the manual here: external link for any instructions on temperature amendments for baking!
How do I clean the baked on inside oven. All oven cleaning products state not to be used on aluminium. Is the inside of the oven aluminium.
I just wipe it over with a cloth and some mild detergent after each use.

Ask K-mart as they make the product
I have just purchased this 28l oven after having a Kmart oven for 6years without any problems. I am finding it hard to judge the right temperature for my cooking also the fact that the bottom elements are exposed tends to burn the bottom of pastry when reheating quickly even on a much lower her than my last oven, in that one there was a tray over the elements. I would really like information on temperature and cooking times. Lyne McD
Hi there, thank you for your query! The team via; external link can help look into product specifics for you. Thank you.
Sorry that you are having these problems - as I don't do the cooking anymore due to a rare disease, my husband does it all, but I guess he has used it by Trial & Error. I often can smell the sweet potato and advice him that it might be on too high a range
My suggestion is to place a oven temperature gauge in the oven and compare the setting one the ovens temp dial against the the gauge you placed into the oven..
Is this available
Yes they do.
Can I bake scones in this oven
Hi Linda, please contact our team for more information external link .
Linda, I can't see why not as we use it for nearly everything, and it always turns ot fine. Though we havent cooked scones in it, but have done cakes, slices etc.
Hi Linda, I don't see any reason why you couldn't bake scones in that oven.
I just recently an Anko 28 litre oven. Without a recipe book on how to cook anything, it's a guessing game of what temperature to use and for how long. Do we treat it like an actual oven?? I think it would be a good little oven if we had instructions on how to cook anything in it. I would dearly like to bake a cake or roast a chicken/leg of lamb but am not confident enough that it will turn out well without any recipe book.
My husband does most of the cooking now but he just uses our old recipes, and adjust the temperature as stated in most recipe books, If it looks like the food is burning he turns the temperature down, or if it doesn't look to be not cooking enough he turns the oven up. If you just use your cookery books and adjust accordingly. We love our toaster oven, and had a smaller one before this........when i used to cook I would just make the recipes from my book, in other words use your own cookbooks and keep an eye on whatever you are cooking but it mightn't take the same length of time.
Thanks for your advice, irish67, I will do just that. I just hope I don't have too many burnt or undercooked food in the process!! Thanks again.
Can you name cakes and quiches in this oven?
Sorry but if I was cooking I would just use my normal recipes as I did in the smaller oven that we had prior to this.
Just received my new oven. After reading the feedback I'm hesitant to use it. I will try cooking chicken legs tonight and post my results tomorrow.
Hello Paul. That's what I,'m cooking tonight with NO TEMPERATURE INDICATOR AT THE START :)
Hi Chris, let us know if you need any help with the benchtop oven!
I brought a 28litre onko oven with no information book on how to clean it or use it please send me some information or I Will take it back to Kmart sylvania
Try looking in the bottom of the cardboard box, my "information book" was concealed in the folded cardboard bottom of the box. Look for a tiny flash of white paper sticking out from the beige cardboard.
Has anyone had success in baking a banana loaf in this oven and if so where did you place the oven tray and what settings did you use. Tks
