Kogan 900W 6L Electric Pressure Cooker Questions & Answers
VerifiedKoran instapot won't open. Have used for several years. Tried cooking rice and now can't open. Please help as I love it.
Timer ? Preset timer button is it for delaying the start time or what Because it's confusing John M
I used mine once and threw it out.
Hi, I just bought a new Kogan 900W 6L Electric Pressure cooker. Can any one advise me how to set cooking time. Should I choose any of the options rice/meat and then choose timer function to set the time. 1.Is that timer function used to set the cooking time interval or it will start cooking after that time. .eg.if I set 5mts for rice function. So will it cook only for 5mts or it will cook after 5 minutes. 2.Can I set timer without choosing any function of rice or meat. Will it work . Can you help please. 3.Also if i cancel my cooking, then should I just switch off . Regards, Sudha
The Kogan model does not have the ability to adjust times in minutes. What I do is get the recipe cooking times and use my iphone timer. I do use the rice setting however and it works fine. I have bought an Instant Pot which is fully programable.
Thanks. So for every function we choose we have to check our time manually and switch off the cooker. I am a vegetarian and not sure of substitute options of meat poulty options. Can you advise
I tried to use mine once, epic fail. Binned it.
I can see timer to set when I click on rice to 2mts or so.but not sure it that works. Still researching .if I have time option then this is the best cooker I would say

On recipes that ask you to set your pressure cooker to manual and select either low or high, what settings on the 9-1 Kogan substitute for both the low and high settings in recipes??

Is it possible show a cooking time of 1 hour or 60 minutes?
Wendy
Hello Wendy, I had a look at my own cooker and I was able to get to 179 minutes by continually pushing the + button. So yes 60 minutes is no problem

After using the cooker for a few months, the lid suddenly can't close properly? I could position the lid normally, but it won't turn to close. I've made sure nothing was stuck on the lid. Any idea why?
Hello Monika, there is a little pin at the front of the lid, it is the locking pin, is it free? It should spring back and forth easily, can you push it back and forth with your finger. Also make sure you are turning the lid anti clockwise to close it.
Could be that something inside the locking mechanism on the lid has broken or fouled up with food material, if so I don't know how you would fix that, not really safe to mess with a pressure cooker mechanism.
Good luck :)

I just received my new 9 in 1 multi function pressure cooker. Looking at most slow cooker recipes, they usually call for x hours on 'low' or 'high'. The slow cooker function seems to only have one option... Is it 'low' or 'high' if considering most slow cooker recipes? What's the temperature of the slow cooker function?
Hi, Thank you for your purchase! The temperature is between 115 degrees Celsius and 140 degrees Celsius, I believe this would be high in the sort of recipes you're referring to. Please feel free as well to get in contact with our Support team, you can call us on 1300 304 292 or submit an online inquiry here: external link
It's been asked already but not answered. How do you set the time to cook? All the recipes I can find on line specify a cooking time, this cooker doesn't seem to have a way to set a time to cook, or if it does it isn't obvious how. If it can be done can someone please explain how. If it can't, please say that and I'll act accordingly. Thanks.
Hello, I am not sure if this same cooker is still available, but mine has 6 preset times for different foods with the time shown for each food. I just select a food that has a time close to the time I want, then I press the "+" and "-" buttons to get the exact time I am looking for.
Hope this helps
Regards Paul
Hi Mike, Thank you for your purchase. To set a time to cook, you select one of the preset cooking functions. These are listed on page 14 of the user manual available here: external link You can then press the "-" or "+" buttons to adjust this and set the exact time if your recipe gives a different one.

OK. So from experimentation here's how mine works. For functions YOGHURT, SAUTE and SLOW COOK when you press those buttons you get a time that you can alter with the + or - keys and then press START to begin.
For all the other cooking selection buttons when you press them you DONT see a time. just "ON" flashing. + and - buttons do nothing. When you press START you then get ON solid.
The adjustment procedure seems to be press button, say for eg: SOUP, then press TIMER then adjust with + or - then press START.
Now how hard would it have been to say that/or put it in the instructions that come with the cooker? I'm all for not wasting paper but I'm pretty annoyed that I paid good money for this device and it is supplied with inadequate and incomplete user instructions.
When you do that, you are actually setting the delay to start cooking, not the total time of cooking.
It is very confusing.
where can we get download 9 in 1 multifunction cooker cooking recepies?
Thanks KC
Hi Karel, Thanks for your question! At this stage, we don't have a recipe book for the unit, however, there are a couple of example recipes to help you get acquainted on page 8 of your user manual here:

I cannot get the timer under 2.0 is that minutes or hours? And no red horizontal line appears when I first turn on? Very confusing have no idea if on or not. First time user!
I know this question is 8 months old, but we've only just bought our cooker (KAPRSCOOKKZA) and thought the same! The TIMER function is to set the COOKING END TIME. That is the time you want the food to be ready. It doesn't extend cooking time. ie: prepare at 11:00am, function button (meat, chook, etc) timer 6 hours, will be ready at 5pm.
To adjust the COOKING time use the TEXTURE button. Standard is the approximate time as shown on page 6 of the downloadable manual. QUICK and LONGER are exactly that, but we haven't worked by what amount, yet.
Hope this helps someone.
Hi Steve, I played around with the Texture setting on some of the cook cycles and noted the following cooking times, this is after warm up. Cooking Time Variations - Texture Settings (KAPRSCOOKZA)
Texture Meat/Stew Poultry Beans/Chili Soup Cake
Quick 25 15 30 20 35
Standard 30 20 35 30 36
Longer 40 30 40 40 40
Note: These are cooking times after "Warm Up" cycle has finished.
Thank you Steve and IronMaiden for this info. The user manual doesn't explain any of this very well and it took me a while to understand how it all worked after some experimentation myself. Knowing that the cooking time doesn't show in the panel until after the initial warm up period really helped me.
I thought I would be able to adjust the cooking time but now I know I cannot. I know it's the bottom end of the market for pressure cookers so now I know it's a limitation, I'm okay with it.
I called Kogan for assistance as I thought they would be all over it, but they just wanted me to return it for testing and replacement. It's unfortunate the User Manual isn't more helpful either.
Hopefully posting this will help someone else.

I have just bought the Kogan 9 in 1 Multifunction Pressure Cooker and would like to know if there is a recipe book you can recommend as it does not come with any recipes.

How do you set the timer? Also is it in minutes hours. Using the Kogan manual for assistance is like dismantling a bomd whilst blindfolded.
On my kogan pressure cooker you choose one of the preset buttons like "rice" or "soup" and then you can fine tune that preset time but pressing the + or - buttons, hope that helps :)
Why does the Kogan electric pressure cooker emit a soapy, laundry detergent kind of smell whilst cooking? The stew that I cooked in it not only smelt the same way, but tasted the same way. Please can anyone kindly offer an explanation for this?
Is this why Kogan discontinued production of a seemingly good product that is priced competitively?
Hard to answer that one as I didn't notice any smell with mine. Maybe there are others who have experienced this?
Thank you, Paul.
I wish I can get a valid explanation soon. I'm pretty concerned about leaching of the material, that the pot is made of, into food that is cooked in the pot, resulting in toxins in the food and food poisoning.
Can anyone help me with more detailed instructions on this Kogan Electric Pressure Cooker. I have purchased it and have cooked something on it but I think I may be cooking for too long. If someone can give me more details on what the buttons mean?
Hello Mybidda, you probably already have the instructions provided by Kogan, but if not you can download them with this link: external link . Just press any of the preset buttons (eg "bean tendon") and then adjust the time to what you think is appropriate using the "+" "-" buttons, that's all I do.
There are quite a few buttons on the pressure cooker but I only use the ones for "fish", "rice", "chicken", "meat/porridge", "soup", "bean tendon" and then I adjust the time with the "+" and "-" buttons.
The other buttons really don't do much of any value so just ignore them.
Really it is just a bit trial and error, pressure cooking is all about time, if you cook something and it is over cooked you just have to cook it for a shorter time next time. (maybe 5 minutes less or something) or under cooked just add time etc.
I find that anything over 35 minutes is way to long for casseroles and over 45 minutes is too long for corned meat.
The preset for "Rice" seems to be spot on at 8 minutes.
Hope that helps :) Paul
Thanks Paul. Yes I did get the instructions from Kogan's website but didn't find them very useful. Do you know what temperature the different preset buttons are? The 'bean tendon' button confused me so not sure what types of foods or cooking that one is for.
I did find the pressure cooker very quiet to run. And because it took time to heat up and then the timing started counting down I didn't really know what was happening or if anything was happening so I ended up restarting it thinking I had done something wrong. All good. Thanks for your reply.
I have bought a kogan electric pressure cooker but don't have any recipes can anyone please help
Just Google "pressure cooker recipes" and plenty will come up. The best site, in my opinion, for pressure cooker recipes is external link
