Our LG MS3840SRSK microwave keeps overheating and turns itself off. This has happened 3 times. Now it will not heat at all. It is only 2 years old.

hi Dianne, I'm sorry I am not an expert in the LG microwaves. I just gave my review of the product, as many others do, on this site. They do seem to be unreliable though so unfortunately, unless you have an extended warranty, it sounds like you may be up for a new one. As I don't know your circumstances, there are set perimeters for microwaves generally to make sure they have enough cool air circulating around them while in operation and after, when they need to cool and it's possible the LGs have a safety cut out if they get too hot, due to lack of enough space for circulating air around. Mine is not in a cabinet so it has free air around all sides to keep it cool. If yours is in a cabinet, see if you can bring it forward a bit more to allow more air circulation at the back and also remove anything up the sides

(if possible) to again allow the fans to work efficiently. That's my only suggestion, not knowing your circumstances. Sorry about the delayed reply.

Thanks for your help. We located our purchase receipt through the store we acquired the microwave from. We had 11 days left on the warranty. It has now been repaired, something to do with sensors/heating. Must have been a few of them as the repair man stated he had replaced them all. I did have it in a cabinet built into the bench - made for the microwave size and there was sufficient air circulating around it. I will take heed from your suggestion and it will now live on the bench. Thank you for your reply.

My two months old LG sensor microwave model MS3840SRSK powers off after 20 to 30 minutes of mainly continuous use. Seems to dislike steaming vegetables. When it cools down it powers up again.I have it in a Cabinet made to hold a microwave and have used microwaves in this cabinet for over 30 years and I never had a problem until now.Maybe the cabinet isn't large enough for this model. Is this a common problem with this model microwave?

If you read your instructions very carefully, I am sure it will say to place it on an open bench with so much room behind it and beside it and infront of it. I did the math and worked out that no standard bench in Australia would hold the microwave. After having continued problems of steam build up between the glass panels in the door and also the timer window I returned the new microwave (took a lot of argueing to get a refund) and got my trusted old one repaired.

Hello Selwyn, I haven't faced any such problem, as probably we haven't it used for more than 15minutes. Initially we had other problems but once we got it fixed we haven't faced any problem so far. I believe you should contact LG for this problem as you will still have it under warranty.

Selwyn, in addition to the other answers posted above I have to wonder what program you are running that requires 20-30 minutes of continuous cooking just to steam vegetables. This is a powerful microwave oven and I find it cooks most foods in a few minutes. Check the instruction book and make sure you are using the correct program for the food you are trying to cook. Also, note that the microwave generates steam whilst in use, and this steamy air is expelled from the microwave (probably by the fan). The same fan will try to suck in fresh air which in an enclosed space will probably contain a lot of the steamy air as well and could lead to confusing the sensor and /or overheating/shutdown. A similar thing can happen with clothes dryers that are not properly vented. The microwave cabinet should have a gap in the back that vents into the kitchen or roofspace or outside, just like the rangehood. Hope this helps.
