can you used symthetic oil?

Reuben
Reuben

You should be able to. Synthetic oils are generally top rated oils. The bigger problem is the weight range. Check the owners manual to figure out which oil to put in it, but from memory it recommends 10W-30 oil. Or you could ask your mower mechanic about different weight range oils if you live in a place where the temperature exceeds 30 degrees, or gets colder than 10 degrees (I use a 15W-50 air cooled motorbike oil in my machines during summer, because it has a higher temperature range, but ask a certified mechanic before adjusting the oil like this).

What sort of petrol/oil needs to function?

Mec joinery
Mec joinery

Unleaded petrol

Reuben
Reuben

This machine is a 4 stroke, so it takes regular unleaded petrol in the fuel tank, and 10W-30 oil in the oil sump (if your in an area thats hot year round, then you could probably get away with SAE 30 oil). You have to change the oil in it every so often (after 1 hours use the first time, then after every 10-20 hours thereafter)

Is it possible to use use on it's side?Ie tilted towards intake tube...One site in usa says it's ok ...Won't hurt motor .

Charbel
Charbel

Don't believe that it will cause damage and the blower will turn off and smoke I did it once and never again with line trimmer you can turn to it's side like honda stihl eco but not cheaper one the blower is not designed to tilt to it's side

Nick O
Nick O

Yea, I wouldn't as the Oil will run into the engine too quickly and hence cause the smoke.

has anyone used 15w-40 oil in the makita 4 stroke blower?

Nick O
Nick O

Yes, I used this on my last service and it's running without any problems. Just as smooth as it is normally. The main thing to remember with oils is the temperature you're running the equipment in. Unless you're working in close to sub-zero temperatures there's not much to worry about with choosing a mix of oil to add to small engines. Especially with the variety of semi-synthetic oils such as 15w-40.

If you paid by card, you may be able to check your bank transactions for a large purchase from Bunnings. Then they should be able to determine your receipt from that.

What type of oil do you use?

Colin NOT happy Jan
Colin NOT happy Jan

I think I just picked up a 1 litre bottle of 10w30. I assume that is what the book recommended and of course 1 litre would provide several oil changes. I do not have this any more as the plastic case got holes in it from gumnuts or other hard items and was spraying stuff onto me so I returned it as not fit for purpose.

About 80 ml or 2.7 US ounces. That's max capacity so when an oil change is performed it will most likely take less. I always fill the engine very slowly, let it rest for a few minutes, then check the level indicator on the oil cap. It's a bit of a pain and time consuming but worth the effort.

Vacuum is weak - will not pick up sawdust from concrete floor. I noticed there are 6 rectangular slots, 10 mm X 50 mm cut into the vacuum pipe where it attaches to the fan unit. This must allow air suction to bypass the nozzle and weaken the vacuum. What is the purpose of these slots? should I tape them closed?

Regards

engineerthomson@sctelco.net.au

Colin NOT happy Jan
Colin NOT happy Jan

Vacuum is weak is strange. I would be looking to see if the fan blades have a build up of stuff clogging them, and also the outlet pipe can be clogged if damp stuff has been picked up and the bag can become non porous if damp stuff is inside. All these need to be clean. The slots are probably to ensure that stones can not be sucked into the blades and change the airflow to ensure that leaves are still lifted through but stones do not get any higher. Stones will break the case. This is mostly designed to pick up leaves and chop them up on the way thought the fan then blowing the chopped leaves into the bag.. An ordinary or commercial or ducted vacuum cleaner would probably be a fair bit better at sawdust..
