Masport Crossjet Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi team. I have a newish Goliath that has an issue with the acceleration pedal not returning. Need to flick it up with toe which isn't safe. Any ideas? No return spring on it.
Also has same cut out issues described below with the seat switch and operator isn't that light - any new ideas there?
They get dusty. Just a clean should do it.
Hi, I can't start my crossjet, there is a blinking rectangle on display when I go to start
Hi there, we would recommend taking it into your local Masport dealer to diagnose. Many thanks
Crossjet 2WD Hi there, Have a lack momentum in driving my 2wd crossjet. Engine is fine, cutting power is fine, just the momentum seems to diminish when mowing for 20 minuets to the point it stops Especially when it's on a slope. It does it in forward and reverse Oil runs out of the gear box filler box to the point it spills over exhaust and run down tyre.once you turn it off oil level is back to normal after 5 -10 minutes You can get it to again when it has sat for a while. It feels like the brakes are on.Belts are fine. I’m thinking a gearbox probably. Any advise Cheers
Hi Peter, we would recommend taking your ride on mower into your local Masport dealer for a full service.
Good day, I need to replace the battery. I cannot get the one which came with the mower ( Fulbat U1R-12 SLA). I bought one, he recommended instead, at the local electrician. But it does not work. The mowing deck is stopping as soon as I start driving, so I thought it might not be strong enough to drive the clutch of the mowing deck. Could please someone advise me, which battery I should buy. Thank you for your help. Emma
Hi Emma, firstly I'm not a mechanic or an electrician but the way I see it is if the replacement battery is of a similar rating as the original (12V 32Ah) and the engine cranked with no issue (state of charge was ok), then it's unlikely to be the cause as the starter motor draws way more current than the electric clutch. There's safety switches both under the seat which cuts engine off should the driver fall off and one connected to the brake pedal which won't let you start the engine unless brake pedal is operated but your issue doesn't sound like it's either. Is the belt tension spring on the cutting deck engaged?
Hi Paul, Thank you for your reply. It is a 12V 30Ah one. But I don't know if it is the same technology (AGM) as the Fulbat one and if that does matter. On the label it only says "Maintenance Free Battery". The engine does not stop, just the mowing deck. I can start it again, when I start to drive (sometimes immediately, sometimes after some meters) it stops again. I can do that often. Yes, the belt tension spring is engaged. I adjusted the tension according the manual.
Hello Emma, our advice is to take your mower to your local authorised Masport service agent for investigation. They will be able to analyze your mower's problem. You can find a service agent here: external link . If you have further questions, please contact us directly on csau@masport.com.au or 1300 366 225. Kind regards, The Masport Team.
Hi, I have had a problem with the spring safety cut-off switch under the seat. I would check this first. As stated above, if the battery can start the engine, it’s not that.
Hi Tim, thank you for your reply. My problem is not, that the engine stops, only the mower deck (cutting deck, rotation of the blades) does stop. Cheers Emma
Steve Hi, has anyone replaced an engine in a 2wd crossjet, mine has died ( my fault) I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it.
Hi, I haven’t as they’re pretty bullet proof. Do you know for sure you can’t get it reconditioned?
No I believe the engine is gone.
Hi we have a Masport Crossjet has under 100hrs on it and recently has been loosing power when cutting under load ie longer grass and cuts out after a short period of time. It is making a whirring sound that it never use to make. We then have to turn the machine off for hours or a day etc and try again. Has anyone experienced this or know what it is.
I would change spark plugs and ensure fuel is new. These are Briggs and Stratton motors, very reliable
Hi Tim thanks yes we agree the motors are very good and reliable. We it seems like its an engagement issue but have changed serviced, changed belt had wiring checked and apparently the PTO has been checked and is fine. It cuts fine for 20 minutes then no longer cuts and has a whirring sound that blades still spinning. pretty frustrating. We will try changing spark plug though, willing to try anything. Thanks
My Crossjet was blowing lots of smoke from oil leak from engine. Took to repair shop and they fixed it for $300aud. Got it home and still blowing heaps of smoke from engine oil leak. After an hour decided to stop but forward reverse lever won't engage so can't move it. Any ideas.
Please contact the service agent who serviced your machine or call our Customer Service Team on 1300 366 225. Thank you. The Masport Team.
Hi there, noticing a lack of power in driving my 2wd crossjet. Engine is fine, cutting power is fine, just the momentum seems to be diminished. Especially noticeable when it's steeper. It feels similar to when my other mower, which I belt driven, gets a loose or stretched drive belt. Have done 225 hours
Hi Jimmy, we are sorry to hear you are encountering issues. If you'd like to contact us via email at csau@masport.com.au we can have a chat and see if we can help you out.
Hey Jimbo. Sounds to me like the drive v-belt. Mine lasted about 250h, it’s a DIY job if you have a side lifter. Get a good one from Masport or OEM quality. It’s a minor bugger but the engine pulley releases with 3 bolts from memory. I have a pdf of the service manual if you don’t, but you can find it online under the brand Emak if nowhere else. Good luck!
My masport crossjet 4x4 won't start, there is a relevant spark and relevant fuel to the carburetor, Any ideas anyone?
Stale fuel causes a lot of starting issues from my experience, use fuel stabilizer if equipment is only used occasionally. It may also be flooded, removing spark plug and cranking to clear cylinder of excess fuel may help. Be careful if cutting dry material, my Crossjet burnt down from accumulation of dry grass around engine, it happens very quickly!
Obvious question to start diagnosis, the starter is turning, and well?
PS good point about the grass accumulation. Use a compressor airline, not water, to remove it.
Sorry for the piecemeal replies. Fuel from carburettor to engine?
Hi we checked the spark plug, we checked the fuel from tank to the carburettor but can’t seem to check from the carburettor to the engine
ps advise P& A of this unit
Sorry, p&a?
I have a masport crossjet AC92 2wd. It never usually gives me any trouble but today after I turned it off it won't start again. Just making a faint noise somewhere behind steering column. I am guessing wiring or electrical. Any ideas anyone?? its stuck on a hill nowhere near anywhere I can get it to mower repairs.
Was it a fuse or the battery?
Hi, it's most likely a faulty battery or loose/corroded battery terminal, it may also be the starter solenoid or the starter motor.
Hi, I have had to change the solenoid twice on mine. It’s not hard (just behind the battery). It’s probably not advised as it’s a bit sparky, but you can check it by removing the two thick wires, touching them together, and see if the starter motor turns. Don’t touch exposed metal on the wires as the current makes them immediately hot. Watch out for the diameter of the poles, I bought one and then found the connection rings were 1mm too small.
I have Goliath 110HD 4x4 mower, after using this am now find that cutting deck no longer functioning? Engine running normal, no burning odor etc .
How change or out wheels from cross jet 4x4
I have a question about changing the hydrostatic transmission oil in my Crossjet 4x4 for anyone who has done it. How much dissembling of the machine did you have to do to get to the rear transaxle oil filter and filler points? Access to the front one seems OK but the rear one looks very tight. BTW I have the Masport instructions and am OK on the rest of it. But wondering how necessary it is to reset the front wheel revolution speed as outlined.
I have a MasPort Crossjet here in France and have been trying to obtain a deck drive belt [534488] without success. I can get one in Australia, but the shipping & duty will make that expensive. I'm prepared to do this, but first I need to check that I've got the right part, as my user manual gives no belt details. Can anyone confirm the size of this belt, which I can than compare with the existing snapped one.
I have never, as yet, had to replace one, so had a look in my manual no size mentioned in that either which is pretty slack. Sorry can't help you with the length, but did try. Regards.
Hi Gavin, Thanks for that. It's a bit of a bummer, 'cos it's otherwise a great machine. Masport just say 'take it to a dealer' but that's so impractical and I would have thought it's the same in Australia for many people.. It appears to be sold around the world under many differenr names, but all say the same and do not give belt sizes. Can't find any other manufacturer that does this and don't have this problem with my John Deere.
Regards, Ken
If you take the broken belt to an engineering supplies shop, they should be able to match it. Alternatively, you could try contacting the Seco factory in the Czech Republic that makes these machines: external link . Their Crossjet page: external link . I bought a new belt for mine a while back from Masport and it is a better belt than the one the machine came with. The original one was just an ordinary V-belt like you'd get from an engineering supplier. The new one looks like a custom job. It's better, but the old one was OK too.
Hi, Thanks for that, most helpful. I tried the local engineering suppliers, but they were not able to help - the belt had been well and truly shredded by something picked-up when mowing and, like me, they could not accurately find the length. The response from Seco, like Masport and the other brand names it's sold under [EFCO, EMAC, VLB etc] was 'take it to a dealer' which is a joke, as the nearest is over 100km away and they insisted that they would have to both replace the belt and do a service on the machine. However, I have since ascertained that the belt is a standard size: B73 B v-belt, 17mm x 11mm x 1850mm (73") and I now have one on it's way to me. I know that belt quality varies with the manufacturer, but as this one is only a fifth of the price of that quoted by Masport, I can afford to take a punt. I like the machine a lot, but find that their attitude to customer service is not helpful and because of this would not recommend it. The machine gets used two or three times a year to mow long meadow-grass amongst trees which is a bit too much for my 42" deck L105 John Deere, which is now 20 years old, self-serviced and with no problems getting spares. Regards,, Ken
I’m glad you got that sorted out. I checked the belt profile on my Crossject and it is 17 x 11mm. I’ve made a note of the specifications you’ve given and will price one from an engineering supplier when I need a new belt. I like my Crossjet too and have found it a good, reliable machine. Fortunately, the local Stihl shop where I bought is good for customer service and they get good product backup from Masport. But from memory the V-belt I got from them a few years back cost over $100, which I considered excessive.
It is excessive for sure! In France about 30€
I have a Crossjet 4x4 mower. Has worked well, but I recently lost weight from about 80 kg to 70 kg and sometimes when eg pushing hard on a pedal, the engine stops because the seat switch turns it off. I've got used to it now and by sitting carefully and "hard" it rarely causes a problem although often nearly cutting out. I now have another operator who weighs only about 55 kg and even just turning a corner makes the engine stop. I've overcome it by adding a bag of sand under the operator, but it is not comfortable. Is there a modification or a fix for this? Can you tell me how the switch works so I could arrange something to make it work with a lighter operator?
I've never had that problem and light people drive mine without issues so I'm at a loss. No doubt you have already checked the wire connector to the seat switch under the seat? With the bag of sand on the seat without the operator does the machine continue to run? I only need hand pressure on mine, with a bit of weight to keep it running. But to answer your question I do not know how the seat switch operates exactly but it sounds like yours may have moved out of it's mountings, become lose or something like that given that turning corners can cut the motor out. Regards
Thanks for the response. I have dismantled the seat enough to get a look and some action at the area between the cushion and the steel base. A bit messy removing the seat covering that is clamped on around the edge of the metal but it actually come off easier than I imagined and even went back on fairly neatly. Inside the foam and sticking out a little under the foam is a switch box. (should have taken a photo but I'm not pulling it apart again yet just for that. There are two compression springs that keep the body of the switch box away from the metal base. With weight on the seat, these compress and allow one side of the switch box to be pushed shut, presumably actuating the switch. I've replaced these spring with weaker ones. Now to refit the seat and try it out. I can see plenty of opportunities for individual seats to react to weight differently. I'm hoping this one is a one off and the lighter springs will fix the problem.
Hello, I have a Masport Crossjet and it does a great job on my very rutty, steep, terrain covered with tall grass, underbrush and saplings - except for one thing. The belts keep falling off. The dealer has been out at least 4 times to put them back, but I think I'd better learn to do it myself - at least the cutter belt as I'm in lockdown right now and I want to mow. (don't worry - should it fall off again, I won't be attempting the transmission belt)
I am oldish, female, ignorant of mechanical things, and of only moderate strength. But, I'm sure I can do it with the right advice. I've given the cutter assembly a preliminary look and see that the belt is too tight to just slide it back. I know there is a tensioner but I don't know where it is. I'm assuming that if I loosen it, I will have enough slack to put the belt back. Anyway, apologies for my ignorance, but if you can detail what I ought to do, or recommend a relevant video, I would be very appreciative. If you have any suggestions as to why it's popping off, I'd like to know as well - is it the way I'm driving? I do hit large roots and rocks from time to time, but nothing catastrophic. When it fell off this time, the blade was up high. I was driving through heavy slick grass - cutting small trees along the fence border on a hill. No idea exactly when it fell off.
Thank you so much for your help. S Kaplan
Belts? So both mowing belt and drive belt? This sounds bizarre. But it has to be a tensioner issue, if the belts are not worn out. On the mowing belt, check that the tensioner is on the OUTSIDE of the belt (needs a good pull) so that it distorts the oblong shape of the belt. I made that mistake once with a new belt. The drive belt has the tensioner on the inside of the belt and is hard to replace but I’ve done it. The only time I’ve had that belt come off is when it was worn out and destroyed itself.

Hi we have brought a 4wf crossjet which is not going again fir the third time since we Broughty it a couple of months ago. Carburettor replaced, faulty sensor for clutch now they think faulty clutch. There is an error code on dash 8115 just wondered what thus refers to. 4 weeks lockdown and a brand new broken down crossjet not much fun.
I'm not sure what that code would be for. The only thing I can suggest is try google, somebody else may have had the same, but I guess you have already tried that. Sorry I can't help further............Good luck.
Don’t know the law in your country but sounds like a case for a new machine under consumer law.
will the crossjet fit in a 6x4 trailer if the front and rear trailer panels are down? or even fit in a duel cab ute tub with the tailgate down and the crossjet front or rear tyres on the tailgate.
It fits on my single cab ute with a little space left, not too sure about a double cab though or a 6x4 trailer. If you are buying one the seller should deliver it free of charge, after all they are expensive enough. If you are hiring one they should know the dimensions of the machine.
thanks, yeh, I will actually be using it commercially taking it from job to job.
Hello All - I’m trying to find a unit that will work on a sand island In QLD Australia I have a 1 acre block that is a bit sloping but some areas are open sand - then a lot of not thick thistle- I am sure it will handle the Bush - but does anybody have experience with it transversing sand? Also can you Disengage the blades when driving? Cheers Ray
Yes the blades can be disengaged when driving and should be able to handle driving on sand being 4wd. I would recommend you get the dealer to bring it out to your place for a trial to see what it can and can't do. Personally I wish I had done this before I bought it because if I had I wouldn't have bought it. Unlike the videos mine does struggle on long grass, is uncomfortable after a period in the seat and knows how to use fuel when working hard. There are other options to consider like the sherpa or the Grillo so take your time and buy wisely.
