I receive the promised Friday afternoon update calls weekly and any questions I have during the week are answered promptly. The build quality has been great above expectations if being completely honest. Any clarifications or adjustments on workmanship have been handled collaboratively, with a lets see what we can do that work for both sides rather than a “this is how it is its built now” approach.

Considering a knockdown rebuild is a significant undertaking of time and funds, this level of communication, flexibility and quality product has made the process much easier. I’m really looking forward to handover, which hopefully isn’t too far away.

We initially started the process with another builder, but while still within the cooling-off period, I visited Metricon display homes in Berwick, VIC, to explore options. During that visit, we met an amazing sales consultant who completely changed our direction. After reviewing our lot, she proactively reached out to let us know that the house… Read more ·  1

we wanted wouldn’t comply with setbacks and developer restrictions (something that hadn't been flagged by the other builder). This allowed us to withdraw in time and secure a more suitable lot. From there, we continued the process with her, and she was exceptional throughout. She provided practical, well-informed advice, helped us maximise value within our budget, and ensured we took full advantage of promotions. Her availability was outstanding, supporting us after hours and on weekends, and she always responded quickly.

There were a couple of misunderstandings during quoting (bricks vs Hebel and the inclusion of a fridge water point), but she quickly resolved both issues without any additional fees. We also went through the fast-track process (16-week site start), which was met. However, it does come with trade-offs. In our case, it meant completing all colour and upgrade selections in a single day at Studio M.

This made the process quite intense, as any decision not made on the day would effectively be missed due to the fast-track requirements. It definitely adds pressure, especially given the number of decisions involved.

If you’re planning to build with Metricon using the fast-track option, I strongly recommend visiting Studio M at least a couple of times beforehand. This gives you a much better understanding of the options and helps you prioritise decisions on the day. We did this, and honestly, I don’t think we would have got through it otherwise.

The Studio M team was excellent, very knowledgeable and supportive. They helped us maximise our budget and provided practical advice on what to prioritise, what could be done later at a lower cost, and where it made sense to invest upfront.

While everyone did a great job, the consultant from the electrical section stood out. His recommendations were spot on, especially in helping us understand where to invest and where to avoid unnecessary costs.

Initially, we were advised that we would likely move in around mid to late 2026. However, progress has been significantly faster than expected. Construction formally started on January 13th, and by March 25th, the house is nearly complete, with only minor items remaining (caulking, water heating unit, taps, carpet, and mirrors).

We’ve been advised that the final inspection will take place in early April, with a potential move-in by mid-May at the latest.

The build quality has been excellent throughout, as seen on the job during inspections, and the construction speed has been outstanding. The site manager has also been very responsive and easy to work with, which has made a big difference during this stage.

My wife was initially unsure about choosing Metricon, but she now agrees it was the right decision, and so far, we have no regrets.

One of the biggest surprises for us was the construction timeframe. The build was completed in approximately seven months, which was faster than we expected, especially considering it included the Christmas holiday period.

I had a mixed experience building with Metricon. The build execution was efficient, but the pre-construction experience and customer support could be significantly improved. (materials, colours, electrical layout, etc.) was limited to a single face-to-face appointment with strict time constraints. Any subsequent appointment was declined. After that, all decisions had to be made via email using images, which made it difficult to visualise and feel confident in choices.

What I found most challenging was the lack of proactive guidance. There was minimal professional advice provided, and I had to do a significant amount of my own research. Important elements were not raised unless I specifically asked—for example, details like roof sarking, or drawer system were never mentioned. If you don’t already know what to ask, key considerations can easily be missed.

On the positive side, the construction phase progressed quickly, and the site manager, [Name Removed], was excellent. He was responsible, communicative, and proactive, which made a big difference during the build itself.

Our process with Metricon started well with our sales consultant. We found Darren from the Geelong display to be quite lovely and very responsive. He was very helpful and attentive. quality of the work presented to us was nothing short of pathetic. We were in the drafting stage for well over a year, especially considering we made no structural changes to the house, there was well over 100 mistakes made in our plans. It was left to us to comb through the plans carefully each time a new version was sent to us and to escalate to head office in order to get a response because our pre construction manager was of no assistance and really did not respond to emails. The drafting process at Metricon needs serious attention and rethinking. Customers are spending well over a million dollars for their new builds in this day and age, and the amount of mistakes and inconsistencies we saw in our plans was incredibly unacceptable. In any other industry, a business operating like this would have been shut down years and years ago. The only saving grace here was our experience with Madison who stepped in to take over from our pre-construction manager and provided efficient responses and assistance.

Our experience at studio M was good and we found Maia and William (electrical appointment) to be great at their jobs and very knowledgeable.

Once we finally made it to site, our first site supervisor, whilst lovely, was very slow and unresponsive. He struggled to keep the build moving along and made many mistakes which were entirely avoidable. After some time, our site supervisor changed to Marcus, who was incredible. His attention to detail and responsiveness through the rest of the build was a saving grace for us through the process. He always responded to emails quickly, actioned items of concern and had all issues rectified quickly. If it was possible to pick our site supervisor, we would pick Marcus every time and build again! Our home was handed over to us beautifully and despite the rocky start, we are very happy overall because of Marcus. The stars are attributable entirely to Marcus’s hard work.

We have finally moved into our new build Riva 35 in Mickleham.
