Our sales consultant went above and beyond throughout the pre-construction phase. They were incredibly thorough and supportive, guiding us through every step of the process with patience and attention to detail. We especially appreciated how proactive they were—constantly checking in with updates, meeting with us regularly to clarify the finer details, and even pulling out a tape measure in the display home to compare room sizes until we were completely confident in our decisions. That level of personal service gave us a great sense of trust and reassurance early on.

Once construction began, our site supervisor took over with the same level of dedication. He was friendly, approachable, and most importantly—reliable. He always stayed on top of everything happening on site, kept things moving smoothly, and followed through on every promise. It was clear he cared about the build as much as we did, and his involvement made the whole process stress-free.

Our client liaison officer was also fantastic, providing clear and timely communication every step of the way. We were always informed about what was required from us and what was happening next, which meant there were no surprises along the way.

The build itself was completed in just 9 months from slab down to key handover, which is an incredible achievement and a testament to how well-organised and committed the New Choice team is.

We’re extremely happy with the finishings and workmanship throughout the home. The attention to detail was consistently excellent, and the tiling in particular deserves a special mention—we had quite a detailed tiling design, and it was executed perfectly. Every room reflects the care and precision that went into it, and we truly feel like we’ve moved into a home, not just a house.

All in all, we couldn’t be happier with our experience. New Choice Homes delivered exactly what they promised—and then some. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to build, and we’re so grateful to everyone involved in bringing our dream home to life.

things progressed reasonably well despite a high turnover of Client Liaison Officer, we dealt with at least four to five different staff members, which did make communication inconsistent. Our original site manager appeared knowledgeable and reassuring. However, without any notification to us, a new site manager was assigned, and this was where issues began to surface.

As the build progressed, we found ourselves questioning multiple aspects of the work, and on several occasions, we were not given truthful explanations. While the house was ultimately completed, the workmanship was disappointing. All walls around the window frames developed visible cracks, resulting in an uneven and unfinished appearance. There were also noticeable gouges on our doors, which fell well below what we expected from a professional build.

We were also promised compensation of $400 per week for up to five weeks if the build exceeded the 10-month guarantee. Unfortunately, when the build did go beyond this timeframe, various excuses were raised to avoid honouring this commitment, despite the guarantee’s fine print not outlining such exclusions.

Another major concern was the expectation that we make full and final payment at key handover, even though numerous defects were identified afterwards. We believe it would be far fairer to allow a 10% retention until all issues are resolved, as placing the full financial burden on the customer leaves little leverage for rectification.

While we were initially impressed with New Choice Homes, the overall journey did not align with our expectations. Ultimately, our disappointment lies in the quality of workmanship and the lack of accountability towards the end of the build.

New Choice Homes responded to my concerns about misleading advice from their sales consultant by saying they weren’t “privy” to our conversations and would only refer to what I signed—even though I clearly stated in emails that energy efficiency was… Read more

important to me. This tells me they don’t take accountability for what their consultants promise, even when it’s in writing. It raises serious questions about how their team is trained and supported, leaving clients unprotected if they’re given poor advice.

They also dismissed my concerns about energy efficiency by saying the home complies with NCC 2019 and that I signed off on it. But I asked for a genuine 6-star energy rating or higher, which I clearly communicated. As someone outside the building industry, I took “complies with NCC” and “mandatory 6 stars” at face value—not as code for shortcuts like performance solutions or “deemed to satisfy.” That wording is misleading and shows a lack of transparency and respect for clients trying to build a sustainable home.

I was told that my drawings and addenda would be triple-checked by professionals before I saw them. Despite that, I found over ten obvious errors myself—and missed five more, including a cupboard door that hits the oven handle. These weren’t “minor discrepancies” as they claimed—they were basic mistakes that should have been caught. Calling this a “shared responsibility” is just a way to shift the blame back onto the client.

I understand that building timelines can change. What I don’t accept is the complete lack of communication when they did. I would visit the site and find no progress with no explanation. I constantly had to follow up just to get answers. They later introduced a client portal I never got access to, so I can only hope communication has improved for others.

They claim my build met their 10-month assurance—but that timeline starts from the first brick laid, not from when the slab went down, which in my case was three months earlier. That key detail was never explained to me until after I’d paid a deposit and signed paperwork. So yes, they met their fine-print deadline, but the reality was a much longer and more frustrating wait. It’s misleading to clients who reasonably expect the clock to start when construction begins.

When I raised concerns about termite protection, I was told it was “settled” because I spoke to Termico directly. In reality, New Choice Homes fobbed me off and refused to address the lack of termite collars. Sending me to a subcontractor instead of providing answers themselves is not resolving the issue. That was never settled—and pretending it was just adds insult to injury.

When I asked about brickwork issues, I was told to remove my Facebook post, ignored for two weeks, and then dismissed with “it’s within tolerances.” They did nothing about the trolling I received in the comments and offered no support. Yet I was expected to sit through a meeting while being talked down to—and then told I needed to “trust them.”

They also claimed the boundary wall (nib wall) was not their responsibility, suggesting it was up to my neighbour to install fencing. But there was already a fence in place, which NCH removed without permission—and the site supervisor even kept my neighbour’s fencing panels. I had photo evidence of where the original fence line sat, but they ignored it. Rather than taking accountability, they twisted the story to protect themselves.

At every stage, NCH expected me to understand complex building terminology and processes without proper explanation. When I asked why something was different to what I expected, I was told I signed the contract—or that it was “within tolerances.” I had to turn to outside sources just to understand what was going on, because apparently, I was meant to blindly trust them.

New Choice Homes only get 3 stars from me—and that’s purely because the house was eventually built. What dragged their rating down was poor communication, a lack of accountability, and sales consultants making promises that couldn’t be delivered. Their client liaison team often left me in the dark. If you go to them with concerns based on other reviews, expect to be blamed for not checking your plans or for misunderstanding—because that’s exactly what happened to me. They market themselves as a boutique builder, but they’re just another volume builder making big promises they can’t keep.

I do want to thank the third site supervisor I had. He might’ve thought I was the worst client ever, but he was always polite, respectful, and willing to listen. He treated me like a human being—something the rest of the company could learn a lot from.

From the land deposit, house design, prestart (thank you Julia), to Finance. They took care of everything.

The land titles got held up for 3 months, which was frustrating, but we were kept in the loop and we were ready to go once the Titles were granted.

I must add that the selections at Pre-Start were extensive and enough to make a lovely home. We wanted extras and prepared to pay for them and honestly, the extras were not expensive. Its the needs that make your special.

Our slab is down before Xmas and that is important. Can't wait to see how our progresses in 2026.
