I recorded a track from audio cassette to usb flash drive. When I play the track from the usb drive, the sound is barely audible. Is it a technical fault in the sound machine or do I have to change any setting during recording?

I purchased this combined unit Model AZ1852/79 approx. 3 years ago when Dick Smiths were closing down in Bunbury WA then I stored it away and then forgot I had it, Then a few months ago I came across the unit so I set it up for use. Every thing works but It doesn't have much volume. Question - Is this a common problem or is there a place I could get it checked out in WA. It does have good volume from extension speakers though.

What is the maximum capacity for a USB stick? 64GB or 128GB or no limit?
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us, that's a good question. As you can also read in the manual (page 25 and 26 in external link , the maximum numbers that can be played from the USB-stick is 999, with a maximum of 99 folders or albums. Thus, it's not so much about capacity as it's about the quantity. For all other information about the USB playability, we'd like to refer to the manual as well. If you have any other questions it's also possible to contact our product specialists on 1300 850 633 if you're located in Australia or AU 1300 850 633 or 0800 639 953 if you're located in New Zealand.

My Philips az1852 has 4 options on the source slide, however the tape option doesn't work and it tunes into radio as well as on the radio option. any ideas?
Hey there,
Thank you for your query. The tape option is actually also the off position. The manual keys for the tape deck override the selector switch. We hope this answer your query!

I can't record from tape to usb on following the instructions. What can I do??
Juleen
You have to use the remote to start recording and be sure to press Stop, also on the remote, at the end of a segment or the recording won't be saved.
thank you so much. Your advice was right and it worked. Whew!!!!
Hi Juleen, thanks for your question. To record music from tape or radio to USB, you can do the following: 1 Slide the Source selector to TAPE/FM. 2 Plug in a USB device. 3 Play a tape or tune to a radio station.
- To select the starting point of the tape for recording, press the double arrows left or right.
4 Press USB REC.
- Tape/tuner ripping begins. > [RIP] blinks on display.
- To stop ripping, Press the stop button.
For more information on recording, or other functions, you can also consult the user manual: external link
Hope this helps!
Hi, I tried doing it the way that Phillips recommended and had no success. The [RIP] was blinking but when I put the usb into my laptop it was blank. Any idea as to why this has happened? I tried 3 more times and each time the usb stick was empty. I have a remote but the battery is flat so would like to be able to do it manually!
Thank you
Philips AZ1852 Tape USB Ripping: - To save the recording, you must press the small silver stop button on the player, or [stop] on the remote. - If the tape runs to the end and the play button pops up before you stop the USB recording, it will not be saved.
Can you record to tape using a USB microphone?
Hello Bruce. It should be the same as recording music from a USB device, if you plug in a USB Mic and switch the selector to USB you should hear the voice through the speakers if the Mic is compatible, if it is put in a blank tape and press the record button to record your voice.
I am after a basic portable CD player with AM/FM RADIO for my mum. (Any extra capabilities are unnecessary and would only confuse her). What is imperative however is a good sound (relative to other portable units). This is the only unit so far that appears to have a good speaker system.
Could anyone please advise me on the SOUND QUALITY of this machine? Thank you! :)
Hi Pablique,
I haven't appraised many CD players, but to me the sound seems quite good. Unfortunately, as with many portable CD players, there is no AM RADIO, just FM.
Regards,
Michael
Hello Pablique. In it’s price range the Philips AZ1852 is as good as any other brand or model. The sound quality will also depend on Radio reception in your area and the quality of the Discs used, but we have many school teachers that use this model in the classroom as a teaching aid.
Re numbers from 01 to 99. Does this mean a maximum of 99 songs? Or a maximum of 99 CD's, since it looks like each CD may be saved as a single file. This would explain why you can't skip tracks unless you use some sound editing software. That was a problem I found with an older player.
After my initial question to this topic, I never re-purchased recorder, and threw out all my cassettes - just couldn't be bothered with it again :-(
This is a bit technical. I'll have to leave this one for the experts at Phillips.
I hve the az1852 it records fine but whether its from a cassette or radio or cd you cannot change the tracks say from track 2 to track 4 when you replay the usb.
does any one have the answer other wise you can only listen to the music from the beginning all the time?
Hi Carol, I've always had the same experience when playing back tracks from USB sticks or from USB music players. That is, the tracks always play in the order that they are copied from the computer even if the tracks are later renamed. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but the obvious answer here is to copy the tracks from the computer to the USB in the order you wish them to be played.
Best wishes,
Michael
Thats not my problem. Its trying to rip my audio tapes to tbe usb on the phillips az1852 the usb records it as one file and you cant fast forward to another track once its recorded on to the usb.
thanks for your answer
Sorry that I misunderstood your question. What you actually need is sound editing software to separate the songs into individual files. I bought a fairly cheap Sony voice recorder a few years ago and it came with a very good sound editor on CD. I think you can download similar sound editing software for free - Sony would be a good choice.
Regards.
Hi Carol, thanks for asking. The way the USB recording works is it records a file, if you record all the songs at once that’s the only way they’ll play back, if you wish to play individual tracks then you will need to record each track individually.
That’s the way the unit is designed.
To clarify: Of course you can record each song individually with the unit. I was thinking along the line that it would be easier, especially if you are recording a lot of songs, to first record whole albums using the AZ1952. Then use the computer and software to capture each song as a separate file.
I meant the AZ1852.
Hello how do I record more the 99 songs from CD to USB please?
Hi Dmokau, I'm guessing the problem you are having is to do with running out of numbers for the songs i.e. 01 to 99 being the only numbers that can be used. If this is the case, creating multiple folders using your computer might be the solution.
For example, after you have recorded one lot of songs (up to 99), plug the USB into the computer and create a folder for those songs, e.g. 'Folder 1'. Then record the next lot of songs and repeat the process... 'Folder 2' etc.
I haven't had much experience myself at recording a lot of songs onto USB, but I hope this is of some help to you.
Regards,
Michael
Indeed, Mike :) Does this help you, Dmokau?
Is this possible to record music from cassette to USB ....?
Hi Shammas Yes it is possible to record from cassette to USB. The only problem in doing this is that you need to press the 'Record Stop' button before the cassette ends and auto stops. If this is not done, the recording will not be saved to USB. The problem here is that as the cassette auto stops the machine powers off at the same time. A shortcoming in this model (unlike the previous model).
Hope this helps you.
Regards,
Michael
Hi Shammas, yes the record to USB must be stopped before the cassette auto stops but also you must stop the recording using the remote control, if you use the stop button on cassette it has the same effect as the auto stop and record fails.
I successfully recorded a track from a tape on USB device. However, I am unable to save it on my hard disc. What should I do?
Hi Kuldeep, This is a bit unusual. It is normally quite easy to transfer data from a USB device to a computer. Perhaps the USB device is faulty. Other than that I can't think of any reason for this. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance to you.
Regards,
Michael
Hi Michael, thanks for asking. The recording will only be applicable for USB stick, Portablle Hard drive will not work on this. If you want to use the Hard drive, you will need to save it first on a USB
stick, transfer it to computer and to hard drive.
Additional, if you want recordings on a hard drive then you need to use a PC to copy & paste from USB device to hard drive.
