Hi there, I have a Saeco Magic Comfort+ espresso machine that is ~20 years old and has been functioning perfectly until recently. I now have a message on the screen: "BREW UNIT MISSING", however it is not. I'm thinking it is a sensor; can you confirm?

David F.
David F.

I sometimes have the same problem -- usually solved by reinserting the brew unit. The "nose" of the brew unit pushes on a micro-switch to tell the machine that its brew unit is in place.

Hi, I have the Saeco magic comfort most likely well over 10 years old and every now and then when I press button to make a coffee it will activate grinder but continue grinding until there are no beans left. Have tried pulling bean hopper apart and cleaning sometimes it works. Is there a faulty sensor or something I can look at to fix? Looking for any help or advice cheers!

David F.
David F.

The machine knows to stop grinding when the doser micro-switch closes. If this micro-switch is defective or [more likely] the grinder's coffee chute is blocked, then the machine will grind for a very long time [and perhaps forever].

The float that is in the water tank no longer raises. We have to stick a chopstick in the gap to elevate the float or else we get a message to fill the water tank. Any advice? Thanks Adele

David F.

I have repaired several such magnet floats. Typically I (carefully) break the water tank's stopper to remove the float then dry out the float for a few hours. The soggy "float" usually has a crack then needs mending [glue], but occasionally needs a new magnet. As a temporary workaround, I have used a relatively strong magnet placed near the spot where a working float would sit.

Hi! My machine won't push out water. When I try hot water just a bit comes out from the spout like it is clogged. I descaled a couple of times, I ventilated, still nothing. Can I take it apart and how? I think there is too much build up that I need to clean manually. It is a Saeco Magic Comfort Plus.

David F.
David F.

If indeed you have scale buildup, then descaling the machine would help, but a proper descale operation requires a somewhat decent water flow. e.g. If the 'Descale' indicator has been ignored too long, then internal components must likely be removed and manually descaled.

A more likely cause of low water flow is a defective ULKE pump. They're often repairable, but cheap enough to buy new [to replace the old].

I have a Saeco Magic Comfort Plus coffee machine. Im wanting to descale the machine could you tell me what brand of descsle solution i can use to descale my machine. Ive seen some on ebay The Phillips brand not sure if this can be used on my machine. Regards

Marisa

I haven’t used that one but have used the DeLonghi brand which I think I bought at Myer. Have used others though and the Phillips should be okay. There’s a few YouTube videos you can watch if you’re not sure how to descale - or just follow the instruction manual.

Buy a bag of powdered citric acid [e.g. Amazon]. It's cheap and it works very well. Never use vinegar.

My machine doesn’t seem to make the rich ,strong cup of coffee it used to? I’ve consistently descaled and changed beans with no effect - thoughts? Thanks

There are a great many possibilities ... I would first check that the brew unit's screen is clean [e.g. daylight visible through all screen holes] and that both the fixed and dynamic piston o-rings are in good shape.

Saeco Magic Comfort brew unit missing message. What to do? I have tried pushing the press button, hear a click and replace the unit until it clicks. Still doesn't work.

Rob D

I sorted it out. I tried all the suggestions online but none of them helped. I then took a piece of plastic(small spatula) and activated the micro switch, leaving it in the activated position. I closed the door and replaced the dreg drawer. It started up without the message. I then took out the dreg drawer and the spatular, replaced the brew unit and it started up with no message other than ready to select. Whew!

My faithful 30,000+ machine has been stuck on "ventilate", not even turning the steam knob works. It seems to have an air pocket in the pump. How can I fix it?

Richard W.
Richard W.

Sounds like the oring inside the steam control may have failed or worn out now if you have replaced this oring an the plastic tab that hold the tap in postion has worn out it creates the same issue as there is not much tolerance . Found when either of these fails steam spews out everywhere or a pipe has popped off inside the unit. Take note only a guess

Joe Algeri
Joe Algeri

Thanks for your super fast response Richard! There is no steam coming out in anywhere, it's just failing to do anything. You can faintly hear it try for a few seconds when you turn the steam knob but then nothing - no water, no steam. It just says Ventilate.

The water flow detector -- the first device in the water circuit following the water tank -- may be blocked. Water enters the detector through a very tiny hole to spin a turbine with an embedded magnet [i.e. Hall Effect]. This hole might be blocked. Of course, a blockage can occur anywhere in the water circuit.

I just serviced my machine in Perth but it did not fix the problem. The problem is that when I turn machine on it, the water symbol (water drop) starts continuously blinking in red and nothing happens. The water does come from the steam outlet and that shows that pump is working. Please help as I live in bush and can't go every time to city. Thanks Ravi

Saeco
Saeco   DM

Hi there Ravi, Thank you for reaching out to us. That sounds quite inconvenient for you. it might help to descale the Magix Deluxe as scaling can have an impact on the water flow and that might help you out. If, however that did not help you out, we advise you contact our product team directly at 1300 363 391 for Australia and 800 658 224 for New Zealand. Our colleagues there will be happy to help you out.

Repeating myself [from above] ... The water flow detector -- the first device in the water circuit following the water tank -- may be blocked. Water enters the detector through a very tiny hole to spin a turbine having an embedded magnet [i.e. Hall Effect]. This hole might be blocked. i.e. The machine expects to detect water flow within some reasonable number of seconds and in the absence of flow will blink the red water drop.
