The silent safaris do cut the sound coming from the TV itself, each headset has its own independent volume control.

I have 2 questions - will these fit little heads? My youngest child is almost 5. And secondly will they work with portable tv's in the car?
Hi Kirsten, They will certainly fit your almost 5 year old. My youngest nephew is four and he quite comfortably wears them. Haven't used them in the car, but can't see why they wouldn't work. If there is an earphones input in the portable TV, then the unit will work in the car. You just need to plug the base station into the TV and then the wireless headsets get their sound from the base station. Hope that helps.
