They kept us regularly updated throughout the build, including sharing photos of the progress, which provided great reassurance that everything was moving along smoothly and gave us confidence every step of the way.

From our very first interaction through to handover, the team was fantastic to deal with. was going and at that point I said it seemed okay. A lady then built with them, even though I called her after I became aware, but she went ahead with her build.

Stroud then advised me that I would get a referral fee of $1500 on completion of a review.

I was then told by [Name Removed] that in order to get the referral fee I had to provide a POSITIVE review!

Knowing that my review would be negative, I didn't do the review, thinking it would be useless.

HOWEVER, on reading the paperwork provided by Stroud, it stated very clearly that the referral fee had to be paid for EITHER a positive or negative review!

I pointed this out to [Name Removed], and since my review was going to be negative, I asked that he just pay me the referral fee, but he refused, saying that I had to do the review!

THIS IS WHERE IT GETS VERY INTERESTING!!

I did the review, going onto the link provided by Stroud Homes Coffs Harbour, which suggested that it would go to the Product.review.com. public site. [Name Removed] did an extensive "response" to my review and I then did an "answer" to his response, pointing out the various items of misinformation. This was obviously planned to "back me off".

However, I discovered that the review - instead of going to the Product.review.com public site, it went back to......STROUD HOMES COFFS HARBOUR!!!!

I found this to be extremely SUS. I contacted [Name Removed] pointing this out.

He then emailed to say that "it was not automatic that I get the referral fee on completion of the review. NOW, he was changing the goalposts and said that it was dependent on "administrative approval".

Then he emailed me to say that he was not going to enter into any more correspondence with me.

In other words, even though I had done everything I was supposed to do, he was refusing to pay me the $1500 referral fee.

I called good old [Name Removed] - he was the reason I went to Stroud as I thought he was so lovely and trustworthy. [Name Removed] ACKNOWLEDGED that yes, the review went back to Stroud Homes Coffs Harbour! When I said how sus that was and that it was very misleading to give the link supposedly to the Product.review.com public site, [Name Removed] became very defensive and rude an then starting attacking me personally, at which point I hung up on him.

I contacted Stroud Corporate and spoke to an [Name Removed] who asked for copies of emails re. the referral, which I sent her. I never heard back from her.

I again called Stroud Corporate and spoke to a [Name Removed] who also acknowledged that yes, the review went back to Stroud Homes Coffs Harbour.

So, that's why you rarely see a negative review about Stroud Homes Coffs Harbour it would seem, as most people would do the review via the link provided by Stroud Homes Coffs Harbour, unaware that it was never going to get to the public product review.com site, but in fact would be sent back to Stroud Homes Coffs Harbour!

On calling Fair Trading, I was told to do a complaint about this, which I will do.

It would be nice if [Name Removed] could just man up and pay me the $1500 referral fee to which I am obviously 100% entitled.

you can only describe as no pride or care in workmanship throughout our home. The owner will not acknowledge they have left us with a very poorly executed home. He continues to say that he is happy with the home- even though there is not one person who has seen it that isn’t disgusted by the workmanship of a ‘professional’ building company! I really am extremely saddened to be writing this post, as our initial experiences were wonderful. We never in a million years dreamt we would end up with anything but love for our home building journey. But once we hit construction stage it all began to fall apart. To sum up an extremely emotional and difficult journey; we had four site supervisors (including the owner himself). We had ample mistakes in construction. With no appropriate communication about these issues. No acknowledgment/apology. Overall very poor communication with no customer service focus. I could detail our experience further but essentially we chose this company because of their reputation for quality, however, all we have repeatedly heard in response to reporting sub par items and our pleas to have them rectified is “it is within minimum standards tolerances”. So in their own words their standard is to build to minimum standards. But our homes finishes, most certainly do not even meet minimum standards. The work is appalling!!

Professionalism – We had the unfortunate experience of just doing prelims with Stroud Coffs Harbour, thank god we did not go with them. I paid prelims and could not use any of the reports anywhere else after being assured that we were able to. Yarren, who took the challenge on with what was going to be not so much of a straightforward build! Problems showed themselves early on and Yarren went into “problem solving mode” from the get go! Lots of backwards and forwards with house plans, driveway permits and council and the problem was solved! First we had to retain the back of the block, a big job and one that I can say looks amazing! Stroud even shared a powerful software tool so that we could add and manipulate our plans in 3D. We had minimal defects on our very complex home and every defect has been rectified. Yarren and the team have gone above and beyond with an attention to detail well after the initial warranty period.

We went to a few different builders before deciding on Stroud. Our experience was that the owners did not make themselves available. We met one competitor's owner once and that was when our paths crossed in the doorway of the office. Yarren was always available, involved and ready to answer questions and concerns.
