Sunbeam Pizza Bake and Grill Oven 19L BT5350 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: BT5350What is the difference between the sunbeam BT5350 pizza bake and grill oven and the new model pls
The new model is smaller, and seems to be less powerful to prevent excessive heat warping the top elements.
I currently own the Sunbeam bt5350 and it continuously sets of the safety switch. I am unsure of the warranty years applicable to the sunbeam but 5350. We purchased the bt5350 sunbeam approximately 18 months ago from Myers Are am I able to get it replaced.
take a look at the heating elements inside, you'll probably find they have warped. Bit of a known issue with this oven. Warranty is 12 months, but you'd think it should last longer than 18 months. Not really fit for purpose in my opinion so you would need to take that up with Myer on getting it replaced. Good Luck
Heating elements are not warped I believe it's a wiring issue and that is triggering off the safety switch each time I click the wall mounted power switch on.
I have just cleaned mine with oven cleaner and cloth but it won't switch back on
It seems very sensitive to liquids inside the oven .mine did the same thing . Leave the door open for a couple of days to dry it out . Mine worked after that .
Thanks David Swann > champ

Hi Frustrated, Some oven cleaner may of gotten inside which may of cause a short circuit as David suggested leave the door open & let it air out & let me know how you go. Thanks
Thanks Sunbean.
How much space do I need to leave at the top of the unit? Mine's sitting on the benchtop under the overhead cupboards. I haven't used it under there yet; I pull it out, which I'd prefer not to have to do. The space between the cupboard and the top of the oven is about 250mm.
Maybe 6 inches . The top.ofnthe oven gets very hot!
like David said, if you don't give it enough ventilation it's going to get too hot, and then you run the risk of running into the known design fault where the top two heat elements will warp to a point where it will cause the oven to start setting off your earth leakage breaker (assuming you have one)
Thank you for your answers. Just to clarify, David when you say "maybe" 6 inches" does that mean "6 inches"? "Maybe" is a guess. I can guess well and badly all by myself! :) jpalen - I understand what you said about what not to do (give it too little ventilation). Do you have an answer regarding my question? What size space would give the unit sufficient ventilation?
Hi Dani, Our recommendation is too not have anything on top of the unit as heat naturally rises & this could be an issue. My solution to your issue is to check with your cupboard maker to see if the cupboard is heat resistant firstly. Thanks
ok thanks. I can't be the only person who has ever wanted to put their portable oven on a benchtop that has an overhead cupboard, but whatever. Maybe you can consider adding this information to your site so that no-one else has to jump through all these hoops to find out nothing. Just a thought.
can you heat up pies if so what setting and how long
yes, read the manual that came with the appliance.
Hi Peter, Yes of course it can heat up pies as it is just like an oven so therefoer put it on BAKE around 140c and depending on the size of the pie. Thanks
What do you mean by sunken position? As in 'place rack in the sunken position'
Hi Elaine, With the racks we use the word sunken position as its the way it needs to be placed in the shelf to be stable. Thanks
Just place the rack in the lowest position in the oven. I normally have the rack in the central position but you can go one position lower.
Hi, I’m wondering what the cost of a replacement heating element is for the Sunbeam Bake & Grill please?
I've no idea I'm sorry but from experience a new product is often more realistic. We paid $95 for our oven. Sunbeam are helpful and would be able to assist.
Thanks Trish, thank you for your reply. I realise they are cheap to purchase. To throw away an element is ok, to throw away a whole unit because the upper element doesn't work seems bad to my minimalist soul. I will contact Sunbeam as per your suggestion, thank you.
Hi how do you tighten the front door handle because the screw is behind the glass door
Contact Sunbeam directly - it shouldn't be an issue in the first place, in my opinion. No problem with mine but it is new.
Is there a recipe for making a loaf of bread in my sunbeam pizza bake and grill BT5350, please?
Hi just unpacked new Sunbeam BT5350 bench top oven and noticed gap on left hand side of the door i.e. door doesn't close snugly. This will result in significant heat loss. Is this a fault in manufacturing and should I return unit to the store?
Hi there, purchased the oven today and I'm just trying it out on Bake... the heat light is flickering on and off every 10 seconds and it has been doing for twenty minutes now, seems odd? Also, should the bottom elements on Bake be glowing like the top, as there is currently no orange glow at the bottom of the oven? Thanks.
Both top and bottom elements should be orange for bake. My top 2 elements stopped working after just 12 months use. Very disappointed in this product.
Hi Bridget P, Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. The light should only come on and off when the thermostat drops temperature and reaches it again. Not usually every 10 seconds. Best to return this unit to the store of purchase for a replacement. Kind Regards, Sunbeam
after one year use the top two elements don't work, just out of warranty, can they be replaced or do I just bin it as it only heats without top elements.
Hi Lorraine M, Give our team a call and they may possibly be able to assist on 1300 881 861
My top elements have stopped working too. Very disappointed.
used my pizza bake & grill oven for pizza & toast for one year, just out of warranty when top 2 elements stopped working can they be replaced?
Hi Lorraine M, the elements can be purchased as a part. You can go to external link and go to service & support to find or give us a call on 1300 881 861 for assistance
About the timer. I thought I’d read somewhere that it had to be fully rotated then brought back to required time. Can’t find where I read it. I didn’t do that tonight and set timer at 30 mins and that’s where it stayed.
Page 6 point number 5 in the instructions says to rotate fully then return to the time you require.
It says it for toast but doesn’t for any other type of cooking. I was doing bake at the time.
I have never done this. I just put the timer onto the time I think I need to cook the food. Usually it's around the 30 minute mark, sometimes a bit more but it just counts down until it's finished, no problem.
Hi Anne, Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. Using the bake function - you just turn the dial to the required temperature. the timer should count down from when you set it. If the timer dial is not moving when set - try to wiggle it from side to side. If no resolve and it is purchased within the last 12 months - please return the oven to the store of purchase. Kind Regards, Sunbeam.
Could you provide the dimensions please especially depth front to back? I plan to replace my original which has been great but now has a warped element at the top.
Hi trvlnb, Thank you for contacting Sunbeam, Dimensions are as follows: H x W x D 350 x 406 x 499 Kind Regards, Sunbeam
Hi, I have just bought one today and when the temperature is reached, the heating light keeps going on and off every 2-3 seconds. Is it normal? Thank you
Hi Luisa G, The light would go on and off to keep the desired temperature but it shouldn't happen continually throughout cooking every 2 seconds. If it keeps up, please return to store...
Thank you for your reply. I have returned it to the store and got a new one. This one does it every 10-12 seconds throughout cooking when on bake but I guess it's normal.
I've just replaced my old Sunbeam Pizza Bake & Grill with a new one, and notice that the wattage is now 1400 instead of the old 1600, and also the bottom elements are now covered. I used my other one where possible instead of using the big oven, so need to know if the lower wattage and the covered elements will give me the same performance as the old one. The store assured me I wouldn't notice the lower wattage - I'm not so sure, especially with the now covered lower elements. Could you please advise. Thanks
Hi Rallie, Thank you for your question. The bottom element covering is a safety shield and will not affect the heating or operation of your oven. The 1400 w still ensures fast heat up.
Thanks for your quick response and your reassurance. I really do hope this model is as reliable as my last one which I used everyday for 5 years without fault - cakes, slices, pizza, crumbed baked chicken, whatever - all perfectly cooked. It's demise was when it started tripping our electricity, and on reading the reviews on this site, found the problem to be warping of the top elements - one of which was tightly resting on the top of the (metal inside) of the oven. The bottom elements were not warped at all. Now hoping that the bottom elements in the new oven, because they now have a metal covering, will not meet the same fate in due course as the top ones in the old oven, and it'll be just as reliable as the old one, for another 5 years. :-)
I love all my Sunbeam products and they have all lasted a long time and are still on the go This oven has been in operation for over 3 years and has not missed a beat and the day it gives up the ghost I will be in there to buy a new one. At the moment I am cooking a cake and the smell is now telling me it is almost time to take it out. I have never used my wall oven in 30 years. This is my second mini oven and with it and my airfyer, crockpot and skillet (sunbeam of course) I manage just fine.
Can this defrost frozen items? what does reheat imply? can it defrost?
Hi MSA, Thanks for your question. The BT5350 does not have a defrost setting so best not to put frozen foods in it. However our BT7100 does have a defrost setting
What is the oven material? Is it 100% stainless steel?
Hi Amy J, Thank you for your question. The oven inside is not stainless steel. It is a coated metal designed for easy cleaning.
I recently became a widower and I am in the process of learning many new things, especially cooking. Can the Pizza Bake & Grill cook a roast? I need to buy a new one but don't want to buy the wrong product.
Brian W
Hi Lefty. Yes, you can cook a roast in this unit. Just be mindful of the 19L capacity when buying your chose cut of meat/chicken.
