Great little car! Just a few small manufacturers faults though – Take care of this little thing, and it will go and go and go! I bought it brand new in 2008, currently sitting at 175,000kms and overall it's been a brilliant car. If you're looking to buy a second-hand one, make sure you ask about these things and whether or not they've happened, which are apparently very common in these swifts and of course it… Read more

all happens outside of warranty:

1. The heater core suddenly blew in 2018, dripping hot liquid over my foot while driving. The part, while very cheap, is located in a stupid place under the engine - so it cost me around $2200 to replace.

2. The instrument cluster started playing up around 150,000kms. Again, while the part is cheap ($100) and quick/easy to install, apparently you have to send the car away to have the speedo recalibrated. I'm in the process of finding a D.I.Y solution.... until then, it gets four stars.

I'd still buy another one! Much better than any other car I've ever owned...

A great, reliable everyday runabout with lots of boot/backseat space! – Put 70,000km on ours with my wife in the last ~4-5 years. Parts are cheap, the car runs very reliably. My only gripes would be a lack of options (although that's pretty much always the case with the budget hatches) and the fuel economy (we average 7 L/100km, which I feel could be a little lower given the 1.5L engine). Other than that it's great.… Read more

We've taken it on light 4WD tracks (by accident!), long trips (~700km), and city driving. We've done highways, freeways, laneways, streets, dirt tracks, and everything in between, and it's never missed a beat. The boot could be slightly better-shaped, but we still manage to squeeze astronomical amounts of luggage in the back (it's helped us with moving house 3 times).

Our swift is on 225,000 km and still going well. Would definitely recommend.

February 6th 2018 Update: Fantastic run-around

We've had this car now for a number of years and it's good as gold. We're on the entry-level (so, not a great deal of features as it's a budget hatch), and have 240,000km and counting! Regular services are all that's been required so far, and the little blue bug just keeps on keeping on.

We've even taken it down a few light 4wd tracks (got lost in the bush!) and it didn't let us down. Running costs are good - 7L/100km when driven in inner suburbs without thinking about economy, parts are cheap and servicing is easy.

Folding the backseat does not give a flat bootspace, which is a shame, the rear brakes are drums, and it can be a little cramped in the back seat sometimes. Otherwise it's great!

My 2nd Swift is just as great as the first! – Hey, I've been reading over other reviews here and I have to agree with the good ones! 3 and a half years ago I bought an '07 second hand Swift with 30,000 k's on it at time.... it was such a lucky find as it was still in showroom condition. I've now clocked up 150,000 k's in it. Have it regularly serviced and so far the only big expense has been… Read more ·  1

a new battery about a year ago, oh and new tyres ofcourse, oh and yes, I did get mags put on as well - such a sexy look on the Swift! The mechanic who services it raves about what a great little beauty she is. I had an earlier model Swift back in the late 90's and I loved it too. When the time comes to replace this one I will probably go for another Swift. I love it so much. The only thing I notice when reversing out of angle parking, the rear pillars do slightly block my visibility. Maybe this is just in the model I have, not sure so maybe I should go test drive a new one to find out!!!!! ;))

Miss fire after battery died overnight full dead dead and bump start, map sensor shenanigans need help with battery – How do you reset/reprogram the map sensor, had the battery die a few times and iv had to bump start it by myself, it’s not got a miss fire, but as for reprogramming the map I have a bigger intake pipe that fits the map sensor but isn’t getting the same velocity of air as inside the airbox it necks down for the map/maf sensor to like 1 inch factory wise it’s a pretty big restriction, I want wooshy induction sound. Only owners will know – It's a granny car but also a rally car, I'm no a granny it has some small flaws but for a 12-15 year old car the amount of them around is a testament to its resilience. I own two auto and manual, on oil changes and break pads they'll go for at least 300km, not a Prado obviously but money well spent on getting from a to b. Show details

Great little car – Bought a 2007 Sport new. Drove it 3 years (60,000km) and it had no issues, only standard servicing. 5 gear was a bit short and needed 6th gear (bit buzzy on highway) and no speed control. Handling was a highlight. Show details

Never skipped a beat this car – I like the performance of this little car, its zippy in traffic & good for short commutes to work & back. The interior suits me as I am short, but my dad is a big man & he has enough headroom to fit in the front passenger seat comfortably for short 30min trips around the area. It also runs on E10, so I can save a few cents a litre when I fill up.… Read more

The running costs are very good, I treat the car well & have not had to have a major repair in 10 years. The insurance is cheap as it does not have a huge engine. The fuel economy is really good.

Great little car – My Swift is running at 235,000km and counting. My dog fits in perfectly with one side of the split back seat down. Love the fuel economy, currently 15.4km per L which is better than when I first got it. Only issue is visibility not the best when merging left, rear pillar is in the way.  Show details

A great all round car, fun and comfy – What a great little car, I replaced my 92 Charade with a 2007 Swift, two absolute pearler cars but the Suzi is very good, with its timing chain motor there's no pesky belt to change, we have 150k on the clock, still running sweet as, just did a major service, like new now, handles well, they are a winner car  Show details

Love this car! – An excellent little car. I've had it for a few years now and never had any serious issues. The one annoying thing is that the AC does make a screechy noise when I turn the car on but overall I have loved it. Low running costs, good performance and affordable.  Show details

Handles well, much roomier than you'd think – Very reliable, practical car for the city. I've had no mechanical issues after 12 years of owning it. The seats are quite high so easy to get in and out, and the interior is surprisingly spacious, partly due to the 'boxy' shape creating plenty of headroom. Runs smoothly and gear-stick has a nice solid feel.  Show details

Perfect car – The best car ever, it uses barely any petrol and is nice and small so parking is extremely easy to find anywhere! The hatchback is great for groceries and larger things, being able to put the back seat down increases the space hugely so you wont have any trouble driving boxed furniture home.  Show details

GREAT FIRST CAR – Great small car that’s reliable and easy to drive! This is my first car that I practiced in and drove throughout my green Ps. Though it isn’t as strong in terms of acceleration due to the small engine, it makes up for convenience in driving and parking due to its small size. There is more room than you expect in the front seats but the backseat and boot are relatively smaller.  Show details

fantastic car – I have been really happy with this used swift. The fuel economy is impressive. The car is spacious interiorly by small hatchback standard. Most importantly, it didnt give me any issues for 3 months since my purchase. Servicing cost is quite cheap and insurance is low to mid range! I absolutely like this car!  Show details

Great little economic car – What a great little car. Might be a little plain on the inside but the Swift does what it does very well. It's comfortable with generous legroom for a car of its size. Boot space is of course quite limited - you'll struggle to fit a stroller in the back. One things that is great for this car is the matching of the gearbox to the engine. This car is zippy! Reliability is great and after sales support is great too.  Show details

Super fun...like a go-kart! – Had my Swift for 12 years now...this car is my favourite of all the cars I've owned. It's reliable, safe, economical and the little go-kart like Swift, in auto, makes this car so much fun to drive! Highly recommend the Swift, and by the sheer volume of MK5 series still on the road, you know they're mechanically on point.  Show details

Love love love this car – I have owned a lot of cars in almost 50 years of driving and this is my favourite. Nimble, sporty handling, 600km+ to a 40L tank, comfortable for a 180cm man even with low profile tyres and lowered springs. The Swift is a little gem and I will be sad to trade it on a 4wd at the end of this year but about the only thing it won't do is tow a caravan. 15000km service intervals make it even more economical.  Show details

2010 Suzuki Swift – I have the RE4 model and I only like sporty RE4 in swift range 2010 and above as it has proximity key option , key less start and side mirrors. There are lots of small cars around and very competitive. I found this a best choice compered to my previous Ford Falcon FG LPG and Ford Focus. Its a Go car, & this is what I was looking for. you wont find these cheaper because swift is iconic brand like corolla.  Show details

Love love love – I love my little swift. I have a 2008 Suzuki Swift. It was bought second hand as my first car. I learnt how to drive a manual in it. Being a small car, it was really great to learn in especially parking wise. Really reliable car, great on fuel. I drive 40 minutes to and from work 5 days a week and I only need to fill up the tank every 2 1/2 weeks. Overall, a fantastic car!  Show details

Fun – Owned a Jap import Sport for 2 years and ran it from 15000km up to 50,000km. Apart from a sticking windshield wiper it was 100% reliable. Averaged 36 MPG. Reasonably large turning circle was minor issue in some urban circumstances but not a… Read more

show stopper. In terms of specification it had everything you needed and nothing you didn't want. Later models with steering wheel mounted controls, better connectivity and cruise control possibly worth considering. Lack of spare tyre may turn off some - it runs a repair kit instead. Consider buying a space saver wheel and throwing that in the boot. I'd happily buy another.

Amazing car - never had any issues! – I own a 2009 RE4. It's such a good looking, zippy vehicle - so easy to own and cheap to service and maintain. It drives really well and is fuel efficient. I only drive on weekends (on both days) so the $50 tank lasts me over a month and a half. Extremely economical!! The build is great and also has enough power for me to do what I want. The handling is smooth and acceleration is fast.  Show details

swifts great cars – 2006 manual 1500 glxi version. I service wife's car. I am no mechanic but do oil, filters and plugs. All easy to do it just clocked 185,000 klms. The room in the front seats is very spacious and on the odd accaision we have a rear seat passenger there is sufficient room for short trips. I did try however I will skip to the Suzuki Swift.

I was at first thinking this was a little too girly for me I had paid out a mate for having a blue one. But here I was less than a year later looking. I was initially very con centred, but that changed. I sat in the drivers car with my legs out of the car and flipped the seat all the way back thinking there is no way I was going to fit behind the wheel. I was wrong. Oh how wrong I was.

I had to put the seat forward to obtain the driving position I am used to, I have driven many cars and most of them I always have the seat all the way back and down. Here I am now having to position the chair forward, new thing for me. Then when I had the drivers chair set up I went to the passenger chair behind the driver. I also was able to get in, of course not alot of extra leg room but I was in and comfortable. What the?!?

We took this little car for a super test drive. it had 8km on the clock, we overtook traffic in a 100km zone effortlessly dropped back to 3rd gear and it was aptly named.

Features the radio controls are on the left side of the steering wheel and I love them simple and effective I to this day miss it when I drive my wife's Kluger. There are 2 cup holders, not the best but they do work unless your like me and fill them with coins or pens ect. the centre console has a small coin receptor in the middle behind the handbrake. Radio and Cd player with MP3 playback all great. I went with a base model.

This car runs me to work and back and I fill up once a month, I have managed only 37k of distance in the 5 years I have had her. I reccomended this car again and again to people. I wish I had found it earlier in my life.

I fixed the girly factor with some custom GT stripes on the copper metallic paint, certainly made it a one of a kind in my home town.

Get paint protection and nature guard I did and it still keeps a lustre to the paint 5 years on!.

I can also fit all the groceries in the back and I am talking full trolley! Cheap to run, great turn circle, Radio Cd controls on steering wheel the space. 15k services

Good apart from brakes, etc – From day 1 brakes grabbed - the slightest brake application and you almost went through the window. Very hard to be smooth in braking.
