Returning a Router – Moving called to close internet account and was told I could simply return the modem/router at the Telstra Store in Gateway. Most rude employee Anthony. Store was not busy at all he put us on a two and half hour wait list. Never bothered calling us back. After 3 hours we just went back to the store to return the modem Anthony obviously did not… Read more
want to deal with us. He said he was the store manager?? If so poor choice Telstra. Tried to just make us leave. I assume because we were not purchasing anything. He has the worse customer service of any employee. Left us with an awful experience would rethink using Telstra again.

Never have any problems – The model Gateway max is so efficient, never have any issues. Would recommend this product very highly, has good range and fast and reliable. We have had it for over a year now and everything seems to run smoothly, never lets anything interfere with the internal workings. Telstra modems are good. Show details
Pretty good - decent range and speed – I've had this for almost 2 years now, and I am quite pleased to say that it was definitely an upgrade over my previous Telstra gateway, providing much better range and speed, especially since it's dual-band now. It was definitely not worth the price, about $300 when released, and you'd be better off negotiating with the Telstra staff if you've had… Read more
their service for a while. It is also a lot more reliable, however, it still may suffer a very occasional hiccup which then requires a restart. Other than that I don't think I can complain much about it at all.
Best value NBN FTTN modem – Very cheap and solid performing modem router device for nbn FTTN. I bought mine from Gumtree for $20.Can also be used as a modem only (i.e bridged mode) with other routers. Wireless performance is good too - have 4 devices connected without dropping. Good for a backup device for testing. Show details

Made in Vietnam !!! – This modem was installed 16 months ago with the NBN package to my home. Thought i would get more out of it before breaking down. The brand new one lasted four hours before i had to get Telstra tech`s involved in why it kept going off line, not a happy camper. Gerry Show details
Average - WIFI does drop out at the extreme end of the house – This modem came, as part of my bigpond cable package. Modem works fine, except there are some drop outs at the very extreme end of the house - this appears to be inconsistent - not sure what the issue is because if I move 2 meters closer to the modem all is okay and it reconnects immediately. Fast consistent speeds all throughout the rest of the… Read more
house, barring this extremity. I wouldn't go out and buy this modem if I had the choice, based on the dropout performance.
Rubbish router – Got this router from telstra as a part of the NBN deal, absolutely rubbish. Randomly drops out for no apparent reason and telstra blames my computer (which was doing fine on ADSL) then blames on the network cables. Don't know if its the modem or the company but stay away! Best router i have used until the day – I have now been using this router for around 3 weeks and it is serving the purpose nicely. The interface for use is very easy and the number of ports are enough for the use for lan of 2 devices. Also, the range of this router is pretty good. Also, the setup is very easy and so anyone can do it. Show details
Strongly recommend and is great and reliable! – I got this modem with my Telstra subscription and it is the best modem that I ever owned. The set up was a breeze as the modem came pre-configured and all I had to do is turn it on and connect. The connection is stable and it never drops out. My old modem use to drop out at regular intervals. The bonus is the mo is NBN ready. Show details
Required upgrade via warranty replacement – Had this modem for about 1 and a half years. It occasionally switched off or reseted itself without any notice. I did not realise that it was faulty all this time so I followed up with Telstra later down the line and the technician who visited suggested that I get a replacement because occasionally modems distributed may be faulty, as they are mass produced and randomly selected then tested. Average product, average price, average satisifaction – You get what you pay for. Which is not exactly a bad thing when it comes to the Telstra Gateway Max. It gets the job done at a mostly reliable rate at a very acceptable price. Sometimes it has its issues, but on the whole it isn't a bad modem. It's good at the limited things it does. 7/10. The router is fine for Telstra network, but almost useless for other ISP – The functions are strictly restricted to Telstra, when use it for other ISP, most powerful function, like DECT phone, are not operational. However, for Telstra, this router is totally powerful, most functions are configured automatically. The wireless signal can fully cover my town house, include the small garden, also part of the garage. Show details
Very good – This is easy to set up and although I had a couple of issues, everything seems to be resolved now and I can't imagine my life without it! NBN would be great but it doesn't seem as though my area has got that installed yet but no worries we can just live with how slow it is. Show details

The modem is good, but not state of the art – This modem is good, but it is not the best out there. It works fine but has poor range. We live in an old house with thick walls and it requires an extender for a short distance. It came with our Telstra contract and has not failed or required a service yet. It is easy to use and set up for someone who knows modems. Show details
Works fine – I bought this from an advert on Gumtree, it was in as new condition. Simple to install, has 4 Ethernet ports and dual band wireless. Occasional dropouts, maybe due to being in a rural area, but that does not happen often. A very good, reliable modem. Can take a little over a minute to start (I turn it off at night), but they all take a while to boot up. Show details
Almost perfect – upgrade to NBN July 2017 had to get this as new router due to old one not compliant. Easy hook up and good signal strength throughout house Takes a long time to reboot if NBN signal is lost,(go make a cup of coffee) Usually have up to 5 people accessing at one time and no noticeable problems stands upright, looks like part of the furniture Show details
Great router – Recieved as part of my previous internet connection is a very good router and i cant fault the performance never had an issue with it and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a reliable modem that wont let u down u wont be disappointed with this product ever also delivers fantastic speeds Show details
Not the best modem out there – This modem takes a while to restart when it drops out - which with Telstra NBN is regularly. Not impressed at all. The set up is simple enough, but keeping all lights green is tricky and when it’s out it’s out completely. Think a stronger modem would provide a more robust experience. Show details
Excellent modem – So simple to set up and super fast. Never drops out or has any problems and I always have at least four devices connected to it. Good range in a large house. Definitely my favourite modem I've ever used, would definitely buy again and I recommend it to everyone I know. Show details
Excellent speeds, but reliability is sloppy from time to time – Using the Netgear cable version (C6300) - it's a bit pricy for what it is, but it's a worthy upgrade for an ageing modem router. Having upgraded to the Speed Boost pack, this is a great companion to fully take advantage of it - I get consistent 100mbps download to AC devices. That said, every once in a while, Telstra will push a dodgy firmware… Read more
update to them automatically, and reliability goes downhill until the next update is provided, meaning you'll have to reboot time and again to ensure continuous access, which is incredibly annoying. That said, when it works, it works spectacularly.
Gateway to connection – it is a good modem and work well with large area of living space and can handle multiply device without any interruptions and the range is good for large user doing photo printing , quick download speed and no buffering issue as compare with some models that make gateway a reliable modem Show details
Never had any problems with Telstra Max – Super fast, easy to set up, a very reliable connection handles numerous device connections at once without slowing down. No buffering while watching videos & also has a great wireless range. I am very impressed with the Telstra Max it is the modem of all modems. Keeps everybody connected no matter what time of the day Show details

The Telstra Gateway Max is your gateway to fast internet access! – The Telstra Gateway Max has to be the best modem out there. The internet has never been so fast in my house! It's about 2 inches thick so it can fit in small spaces with height restrictions. The lights on the bottom of the top of the modem gives a brilliant indication on how fast or slow the internet is and if there is a problem with the… Read more

never had a problem with good connections – The gateway Max modem by telstra had never been problematic and always provided good connection. It was provided for free by telstra on their plan which may not be cheap as some of the cheaper brands (eg tpg) however, provides very strong and stable connections. will recommend this to others. High Speed Telstra Modem – The Gateway Max by Telstra is an ADSL / NBN Modem that provides excellent internet speeds. It is really easy to set up and comes free with a 24 month Internet plan with Telstra. I have had no problems with the modem so far and I recommend this modem to NBN and ADSL Users. Recommended. No problems - Does What it is Designed to Do – I use this for my cable internet. Although branded Telstra the Gateway Max it is actually Netgear. I have had no problems with it per se.... just the normal internet problems that are not related to a failure on behalf of the modem. It sits happily on the floor on it's little stand. It was situated on the desk but it radiates that much heat I had to move it. Show details
Does the job – I got this unit for cable internet. I had a few issues setting it up initially, however it has been running smoothly for the most part. One issue I faced was the settings being returned to factory default regularly. This has since been corrected with Telstra ensuring it was due to power issues (so be sure you press the power button at rear of unit before turning off at power point!) Show details
High Speed Modem – Bought a near new Telstra Gateway Max (TG799vac) from Gumtree for $5 (thank you kind seller) to get myself ready for NBN which is due soon. The modem is currently being used in bridge mode on an ADSL2+ connection. The modem provides rock solid stability and my internet speeds increased by 15-20% compared to my older TP-Link modem. The modem uses a… Read more
broadcom chip which provides good performance across ADSL2+ and NBN connections. The router side of the modem is weak and would only suit light workloads.
So far so good – Though I was unsure whether buying a Telstra branded modem was going to be the best option, this modem is manufactured by Huawei and is a solid piece of hardware. Speeds have been top notch and the range reaches beyond at least one brick wall in a three bedroom house, so no extenders required. Shouldn't have any problems for a medium-sized area. Show details
Nice Modem/Wi-Fi – The Modem is easy to set up, Just plug the relevant chords into the correct ports and turn on the power, The Modem finds the incoming signal and locks on. However I found that if there is a power fluctuation or power outage even for a second or so the modem requires a reset. would also be nice if you could use the phone in a power outage. Show details
Fast speed, annoying setup – After the setup, the device works like a dream, pretty long range and works in 2.4 and 5 ghz so works well in an apartment block with lots of competing signals. Downside is, when we got it, telstra took a week (!) to approve our setup so we had to go a week without internet. No real way around this, although I was told that the Gateway Frontier fixes this issue. Show details
Very good ADSL2+ Modem – Very good ADSL2+ Modem. I enjoy the speeds that I had received using this except when the Internet in my area started to cut out and I received intermittent drop outs in my connection. It is an easy to setup modem. Reliable half the time. Really good Telstra Modem. 4/5 stars. Show details
Does the job and is quite sleek looking – Despite this being a Telstra modem my ISP is with TPG, so I assume this modem can be used for multiple ISPs. It's super reliable and comes with a Telstra security card with the router name/password on it. This is great as the password is already preset and we can have this stuck on the fridge where it will never get lost! Show details
Does what it's designed for – I had to update my modem for , when to the Telstra store to see if they would provide me with a new one, been with them since 2004. they said no, and wanted to charge me $200 odd for one. I managed to get one from Gumtree new in the box for $50. Compared to my old modem the wifi on this work extremely well, and I found it easy enough to change… Read more
the password on it as well as it's wifi name. I'm just biding my time till the NBN is rolled out in my area before signing another contract with any of the providers.
I can't find no faults with this modem, it streams Netflix well and does the other things just as good. The only downside is the download speed, but that's more to do with the providers service then the modem.

with this modem. Just follow the Quick Start guide and you should be online within minutes. I have found it adequate for Wireless n on 2.4 and Wireless ac on 5Ghz bands. It supports media sharing via the built in USB ports provided.
2. Nice sleek design allows it to blend in with your Computer
3. Built in Antenna
4. Ability to wall mount if so desired
5. 2 x USB Ports
Now for the Negatives
Telstra doesn't like people tinkering with their modems. Even though the modem is made by Technicolor, Telstra install their own Firmware. Most of the user settings are locked down, which means you cannot adjust the modems configuration to change simple things such as using a different DNS server.
There are far better options out there for modems, but if you don't know much about configuring your device then this is the right product for you because Telstra only gives support for their own modems, unlike other ISP's that will help you with ANY modem you have.
For dumbing down the modem it gets only 3 stars
