Can I use the bowl and lid in a hot oven
I would only use the bowl and lid in the approved slow cooker, l wouldn't use it in a normal oven
You could use the bowl in oven but not the lid as it has a plastic knob. I cant remember what the surround of the edge of lid was made of.

Im not 100% sure but my guess is a 5.5 to 6 Litre, i can cook a meal for family of 6 comfortably :-)

When would I use the auto option?
Hi Fi, Auto cooks 4 hours on high and automatically switches to low for the rest of cooking. It doesn't switch off your slow cooker. It stays on low till you turn it off. This would be used when u want to cook quicker. Meats are always more tender cooked on low for 8 hours. If you are going to cook on high you may need more liquid due to evaporation. I found my Tiffany always needed half a cup to a whole cup more water even on low. If at the end of cooking you have too much liquid you can take lid off and turn up to high to boil off excess.
