A more useful than expected device – These types of modems have been around for some years but I recently had cause to buy one. There were two motivations; 1. I live in an area where due… Read more

to topography the Telstra mobile data signal is unreliable and I wanted to test the Optus alternative before changing the sims on any of our devices; 2. the 'smarts' on our Samsung Smart TV had quickly reached its upgrade limit so I downloaded all of our favourite internet channels onto a small laptop computer which plugs into the TV. This laptop can be used to make any home TV 'Smart' and when traveling on holiday it is easy to take and it plug into any available TV. Often however, the 'in-house' WiFi is inadequate for streaming or lacks security so I thought the Optus modem could be the answer. The modem has proved to be fully capable of streaming HD movies with little if any buffering and it is capable of running all of our WiFi dependent devices such as tablets and laptops. A further unexpected use of the portable modem which has its own battery lasting around six hours is that living in a rural area we experience fairly frequent planned power outages and our broadband WiFi goes down within an hour or two so the portable modem provides back-up for tablet or laptop use during these times. The Optus portable modem came with a sim card pre-loaded with 50 giga-bytes of data and reloads of 80 giga-bytes lasting up to 12 months are available at around $130.00. The setup and tuning into any WiFi dependent device was quite simple and so far we have experienced no drop-outs. It is small and very easy to carry in a pocket, purse or pack. A very useful item which can be used simultaneously by several devices which has obviated the need for expensive sim cards in a number of devices.

Apple and Samsung being demolished by its superior longevity and reliability, nothing to do with spying.. I want a new Huawei but no where to buy one in Australia, how shameful that something is banned for its superiority.

Very intermittent performance – I have had this modem on 500GB Optus plan for 15 months. Performance has always been “hot”and “cold”. I had to go this route as Optus adsl2… Read more

performance was abysmal in Maroochydore and my house was 1 of 6 in street that could not get NBN. Optus support have always said slow speeds were due to 4g congestion (2pm?). The odd thing is that by rebooting the modem download speed would be approximately 30Mbs before reducing to 2Mbs or less over 10 minutes or so. Reboot then required again and again and again. I have now moved (closer to tower) and situation has not changed. Looks like changing to NBN will be necessary even though I will have to pay out balance on the modem. Would I recommend this modem (or plan) to anybody? Not unless you have absolutely no other alternative.

Good during the day but at night it sucks – The speed this has during the day is fine, it's nice and does what it's meant to. But as soon as somebody else starts to use the internet or it's dark out it totally falls flat. Other then that I'm perfectly content with this.

Device works! – SIM had expired. Had to buy a new SIM, only $2, and it works well with surprisingly high speeds.

I own a GT3 pro of the same brand as well and it has been fantastic as well. No complaints and would buy another Huawei products with no doubts for how reliable it has been

used are hi end metals from genuine gold inlays to the ceramic nano crystal bezel and to other hi end rare metals used in its manufacture. Diving to 100 metres a very special feature. Also wireless charging and up to 2 weeks of battery use before charging. This watch is certainly not the cheapest watch but great value for the quality and luxurious Smart Watch that it is that has everything. Comes in a very prestige boxing with extra links supplied and the links by the way i think are an absolute engineering marvel. I have it linked to my Huawei Health app on my Samsung and have no issues at all with its operation. Its definitely the Best Watch i have ever owned.

Huawei AU distributed a 4G mobile phone that can't call-Out (or receive call)...a basic function of a phone – I am using Vodafone 4G network & they have recently shut down their 3G network. This phone now can't call-Out (or receive call)...a basic function of… Read more

a phone.

4G capability was a key-criteria of my purchase: talk of eventual 3G shut down were found on the internet in 2019. Huawei claims that their Y5 2019 has 4G capability: see ‘Network’ section-> https://consumer.huawei.com/mu/phones/y5-2019/specs/

I bought in late-2019 from Big-W, & NOT a 'parallel import'. Huawei-AU approved it for sale in Australia & gave it warranty-> https://consumer.huawei.com/AU/support/phones/y5-2019/

I have tried, 1.different sim-card retailers, & 2.including Telstra 4G network, in this phone & it can’t call-OUT.

Huawei-AU blames Vodafone for NOT-supporting their phone & hence CALL-problem?

The best camera and the best phone – Last year I purchased a P40 Pro phone and contributed a review which remains available. This year, I have acquired a Huawei P50 Pro. The new phone… Read more

has (1) an even better camera, (2) faster processor, (3) Huawei's new Harmony 2.0 operating system and (4) no 5G capability.

Since last year, I have also had the opportunity to use a Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra which also has an improved camera. Xiaomi achieved improvement by using larger components resulting in a significantly bulkier phone. In contrast, Huawei have bettered all competition by developing superior software and without needing bulkier components. The phone feels comfortable in the hand, the interface is easy to use and the new Huawei Harmony operating system has an elegance that makes this my best phone ever. The Harmony operating system is an improvement on Android. It includes sufficient android code to permit most android apps to be used but it seems faster and more user-friendly than Android 10 on the P40 Pro or Android 11 the Xiaomi phone. When I first received the new phone, I used Huawei's "Phone Clone" app to copy everything from my old phone to my new one and everything was working comfortably within about 10 to 15 minutes.

The very advanced camera software is extremely sophisticated. It captures images from multiple cameras and combines various elements from each camera to produce excellent final images - all in milliseconds. The colours and detail are, to my eye, perfect. The camera offers 3.5 times optical zoom but the software produces high quality images at much higher zoom levels. I also have a mirrorless Sony camera with a good quality 10 times zoom lens but now it just remains in my cupboard. The Huawei P50 Pro is the camera I prefer to use.

American trade bans mean that (like its predecessor) the P50 Pro does not have proprietary Google software but I have come to appreciate that as more of an advantage than disadvantage. I can do what I want to do without being stalked by advertising trackers. The phone is also unable to use 5G but, at the moment, I have not been using 5G anyway and 4G does all that I expect to need for the foreseeable future.

A user who needs 5G or Google software will not find this phone agreeable. However a user who wants the absolutely best small camera in a device that can also make phone calls, do messaging, access the internet etc etc will find the Huawei P50 Pro unsurpassable. I am wondering if I will ever buy another phone because I can't quite imagine how they could make a better one.

assured me it would take 2-3 days to get interstate and then another 2-3 days to repair or replace and then another 2-3 days to courier back so 1-2 weeks all together, I agreed and now its been over 1 month and I still don't have a phone, I have rung the repairer in Australia and the call centre in malaysia and neither can help they both say they are waiting for the phone to be sent from china and I am not allowed to talk to any one in china that actually works for huawei to find out what is happening, I can only talk to the call centre who tell me they are doing there best to get the phone out to be in the next 1-2 weeks. I have been ringing up several times a week and always get the same response, it will be with you in the next 1-2 weeks!

If they told me it would take over a month up front I would of just paid to have it repaired locally, now I am without a phone for over a month, what terrible service!

Value for money – Purchased this as a cheap step counter and hasn't disappointed, Works well, Simple and the app is easy to use, For $20 I think it does pretty good. If you want all the bells and whistles you might want to look elsewhere.
