Security camera alarm system still going strong 2016 to Dec 2023 – Bought this system in December 2016 from my local authorized Jaycar stockist to replace a disgusting failing Swann system. This system is an Analogue… Read more

HD system which is far superior to the 960H Technology system I was using. You can actually see things clearly. The next step up would be Full HD. Get online and see the difference in clarity between the three systems I have mentioned. So far I am Happy with the product. Does what I wanted and more. I also incorporated Techview beam sensors which work fine as long as you include a timer of some sort in the trigger circuit to hold the trigger signal for at least 1 second otherwise as in my case a quick pass through the beam was not allowing enough time to trigger the alarm circuit in the camera DVR. The instruction manual is very poor in detail with diagrams you can't see as they are too dark and its translation into English is not good. To get technical info from the Australian Distributor is another matter though. I am still waiting to get a reply on a technical issue. The request was placed 3 weeks back. I have not even heard back from them to acknowledge my request. Very poor. I solved the tech issue by surfing the net and by finding a Security Company (Unifore) who had the details on their site. I have given 4 stars only due to the negatives I encountered as listed. I will update this review as time passes. See my other reviews of the Techview products I have used with this camera system. 12-01-17 Update. The Alarm sensor units are too good now. I was getting false alarms from birds and moths breaking the beams. Problem solved though. It has cost me more units but worth it. The beam units are mounted about 300 mm apart, vertically and are wired in series as I am operating a normally open alarm trigger on these sensors. What this does is, both beams must now be broken together before an alarm will trigger. This allows a bird or moth etc to pass through one beam without triggering an alarm. The units also have an inbuilt tamper switch which operates on a normally closed circuit. This Circuit allows you to connect to a normally closed configuration on the camera and alarm system (QV-3156) so even if the sensor cover is removed or the wires to the sensor are cut an alarm is triggered. If you don't have a battery backup and or want more safe guards for the system you can purchase what is known as a utilities lock for you power box, as long as it is an enclosed type, that is. 04-03-2017 Update System still working OK. I recently added another beam sensor from the ABT series of Dual Photoelectric Detectors. I purchased this unit from Asia as I could not find a local supply. No timer was required with this unit as the trigger on time is sufficient and it has a response time from 50 to 700 MS which is quick enough to read a breach and activate the alarm and camera circuits. The ABT Detector was cost effective. Read my review on this item ABT-80 18-03-17 Update. In late 2016 I added the Jaycar QC3654 Infrared booster lamp to my camera system which makes a vast improvement on night vision. Read my review on this item. All still working OK. 05-05-2017 All systems are working fine to date. 28-05-17 All systems working ok. Added more sensors and remote control. November 11, 2017 All systems working OK 05-09-18 All still working OK Did have some trouble with email notification but on research found the problem to be Google email security settings on my account not letting some devices of lower security gaining access. Turning that setting off on the account allows the email system of the security DVR to communicate with the email account. October 2018, added another camera to the system and using a jumper lead to activate more than one camera on email alarms to ensure all angles are covered when beams are broken. Works fine and review the system remotely using the phone app, RXCam View.. January 2020 Update One of the original cameras failed last month. Other than that all is working OK. February 2021 update. Added a Techview 1080P AHD starlight bullet camera to the system in september 2020. See review for this QC 8678 kit. New camera and the whole system still working ok. To focus on a few points as set out in review guides lines. 1. Night vision is ok but much better with IR booster lamp/s 2. I found rain and fog would trigger the cameras if the sensitivity was not adjusted appropriately. 3. The system is on 24/7 365. Reliable energy supply so battery life is still a test situation. December 2021 All working OK. december 2023 All working OK

Handy inverter for small appliances – Purchased this inverter to enable running a small TV, powered TV antenna system, led lighting when either camping or in particular during power cuts… Read more

which are unpredictable but becoming more common.

This unit is only 300w (1.3amp ac) which is sufficient to run our small 26" tv and the TV antenna distributor (low power antenna distribution splitter) during power cuts - also has enough power to run a small laptop etc. hence buying the "Pure sine wave" version for sensitive instruments - A "modified sine wave" inverter of similar output is about $30 cheaper but wouldn't risk running sensitive equipment with that (maybe lighting only)

The unit is designed to hook directly onto a 12v battery, but I have wired a 15amp cigarette light adapter plug into a lead and connected it to my 12v jump starter pack which also acts as a 12v DC power source (can run a car fridge for a few hours) so I don't need to hook directly to a battery, though hooking direct to a 12v battery of say 100amps would give you a long run time depending on the appliance wattage. For my small TV, I calculate I will easily get about 5-6 hours out of my jump starter pack which is usually enough to get through an average power cut.

It's a no-frills inverter, does the job, doesn't pretend to be anything it's not, has a usb outlet socket, on off switch and led lights to indicate good to go or any faults. It is overload and input reverse polarity protected and connects directly to a battery with the supplied alligator clip cable. 300W is enough power for many small-medium devices and provides 600W surge power provides support for essential start-up loads (this would be short duration start up surge, not sustained 600W)

Features: • Quick Charge USB Port • Includes Battery Lead with Alligator Clips • Very Portable and Easy Operation (simple to use) • Surge Power: 600W Surge • Low Battery Alarm: 10.5±0.5V • Low Battery Shutdown: 10.0±0.5V • High Battery Shutdown: 15.5±1.0V

Pros: . Portable inverter, compact size . Pure sine wave (good for sensitive appliances) . 300W good for a lot of small appliances . Simple to use - not complicated. . Overload and input polarity protection

Cons . Would have been good with plug in socket for 12v connector lead with a cigarette adapter. plug as well as the battery clamps. . Would like to have seen an LCD screen to show power consumption rate (watts for the appliance connected)

Works perfectly and easy to install – I set this up across my garage opening so that when the car drives in a light comes on and goes off once the car is in far enough to close the door.… Read more

This is a foolproof method to make sure the car goes in far enough to allow the door to close without taking the car too far in. I used 12V power to operate a LED wired through this unit's Normally Open connector; thus the light is normally off but comes on when the beam is broken. I positioned the light so that it is easily seen from the driver's position. The LA-5179 is very good quality, spans up to 15 metres and is very easy to install and set up. I would strongly recommend it for this or any other application.

its direction. The camera seems to focus at ~8cm distance. Adjustable led light control is useful. Downloading software (I didnt use the supplied CD) was not that easy. I had to also download a RAR file viewer and then the installation process was not a clear path. Maybe the fault of the RAR viewer software I chose. The software download to use the camera is called ViewPlayCap. it initially wanted to use my laptop camera, but there is a tab to change to the USB camera. Not used it in practice yet, but initial thoughts are OK value for what I want it for.

NEXTTECH Dash Camera- internal Li Po battery is the weak link – After a accident, I procured a NEXTECH 2K GPS Dash Camera with rear ( cube) camera. Previously I used a NEXTTECH 1080p GPS Dash Camera- but found… Read more

after about 10 months the internal Lithium battery progressively lost capacity(voltage) until the camera continuously reset and became useable. JayCar replace it since I like the camera. Then again after about the same time it progressive became unusable again due to the internal Lithium progressively becoming low capacity again. Jaycar replace it again- then after several more months the third camera also went the same way. This time I was happy to retire the NEXTTECH 1080p GPS Dash Camera- about 2 half years at $150. Good Value overall excluding the messing around.

In December 2023 I bought a more expensive ( $309). NEXTECH 2K GPS Dash Camera with rear ( cube) camera. It is now May 2024- and it too is now giving erratic behaviors and the Lithium internal battery is progressive becoming the internal weak link again. Jaycar are going to replace it again, but this is a much more expensive camera ( $309). The internal battery been the weak link will soon be a thing of the past.. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20230609IPR96210/making-batteries-more-sustainable-more-durable-and-better-performing “”Designing portable batteries in appliances in such a way that consumers can themselves easily remove and replace them;..”” I suggested to Jaycar to rent the unit for a few years, I would be happy to do the rent idea rather then the inconvenience of accepting the fact the equipment (internal Li battery)will cease working well short of the warrantee period. Friends have purchased similar Das Cams online (Chinees Web Site.. very cheap), but when they fail they put up with the loss of the Dash Cam since they were cheap.

tips on how to select the correct position. The user manual was basic in such small print it is nearly impossible to read. (Chinglish). Guy at Jaycar was helpful but he too was baffled by the first one I got. The scrolling button is cheap and the unit is hard to position as the button has to be the windscreen side and is hard to get to. The sticky silicon flat holder is useless with a dash mat so it would have to been better sold with Velcro. All in all I wasn’t overly impressed. The shaded hood doesn’t work well on flattish dashes.

Fantastic Car Cigarette Port Charger – Until now I have been buying car cigarette lighter power extensions from eBay, I have always been unhappy with them, the connector was always of low… Read more

standard and very and I mean very thin, I always thought they could not be rated for any sort of power consumption.

So every now and again I have a thought and this I thought there must be more options and I want to see them before buying, so I took myself to Jaycar Electronics to check out what they had, I was so happy I did, I think I did a jig of happiness from one end of the store to the other.

I brought a PowerTech 3-way with USB power, it has 2 times 2.4A and 2 times 1A which should take care of my charging problems not to mention I can mount 3 lighter plugin charges if needed, and the power cord it is so thick I could tow my Pajero with it if needed.

One last touch that I also think great, it has a voltage meter in the plug, very informative if something is going wrong with the car electrical system.

If anybody needs extra power outputs in their car this is well worth the cost and I highly recommend it.

Good old Jaycar, they don't like to make it too easy – Like the other reviewer, I bought this to use with the LA-5179 beam sensor. Thanks to the other reviewer who mentioned the datasheet on the… Read more

"Downloads" section of the LA-5179 listing on the Jaycar website. Jaycar didn't bother putting a copy in the box and you'd be pretty knackered figuring it all out otherwise.

Anyway, you have to cut the plug off a 12 volt power supply, and wire up the positive terminal to the 1st terminal of the connector and the negative to the second. Or connect it straight to the mains if you're feeling brave. I wasn't.

Jaycar give you a 10 metre, 3.5mm jack cable with two male connectors to connect the beam to the speaker. You cut the male connector off one of the ends of this cable to expose the three wires, red, black and white, two of which you connect to the beam sensor.

Here's where it gets tricky. Normally, the black wire is the sleeve, the red is the ring and the white is the tip AFAIK. The datasheet therefore seemed to me to be saying to connect the red wire to terminal 3 and the black to terminal 5.

I couldnt get any response on the speaker that way, so I pulled it out, and then tried connecting the white wire directly to the black wire, which tripped the speaker. So I wired the white wire to terminal 3 and the black to terminal 5. Everything now works fine.

Having a laser level would be handy in getting the reflector and beam to line up over a 15m distance, I was able to do it using a couple of broken off broom handles midway and lining it up like the sights of a rifle, but it was a hassle.

compact enough to sit on my desk but powerful enough to circulate air throughout my workspace. I keep it set to a low or medium speed, which is quiet enough that it doesn’t interrupt calls or meetings. On warmer days, it keeps me cool without needing to adjust the thermostat for the entire office. this fan is a great option when I need a bit of fresh air or want to create a comfortable, focused atmosphere.

At Home: In my home, I use the fan more flexibly. It’s light enough to move easily between rooms, so I’ll place it on the kitchen bench to keep me cool in the kitchen or bring it into the bedroom on warmer nights. The adjustable settings are especially useful here—I’ll often use a low setting in the evening for a gentle breeze or increase it for more airflow when cooking in the kitchen. The quiet operation makes it ideal for nighttime use, providing just enough white noise to help me sleep soundly without feeling too cold.

i also love that it has the time and temperature displayed. which comes in handy when keeping track of my breaks at work and keeping to my schedule at home.

this fan costs $39.95 but it works like a treat and definitely worth the money.

Overall: This desk fan has become a staple in my routine both at work and home. It’s quiet, portable, and powerful enough to adapt to any setting. For anyone looking to stay comfortable without the hassle of larger, stationary fans, I highly recommend it.
