Brass Monkey 22L Portable Fridge / Freezer GH1624 Questions & Answers
MPN: GH1624Why can't I run on 12v. Works spot on for 240v. When trying to run on 12v it gets hot and comes up with F1 fault
I have the same issue with mine, this is a newer version of my old brass monkey. The old one never had this issue. I'm resetting mine around 6 times a day, I'll never buy another one after this. First one had hinge issues and no spare parts available to purchase, then just stopped working after 2 yrs. They might be cheap but there is definitely a reason for that. Kings or Spector do better.
How long will the fridge stay cold when it is not getting power.
my brass monky 20 ltr is set at -18. But will only go down to 11degres ant ideas please
A couple of things. We have the insulated cover as well as putting it a shady/draughty area. This will get it down to -18 and freeze all very well. I do find warmer weather does play a large part in the performance. Also depends on if you are on 12v or mains power. I use Mains where I can to get the temp down quicker. 3 years and going strong though.
Where is the fuse located
Goto this other page on here. Found it answered more questions than this feed. The fuze is where the power plug goes in. There is a screw there to access it from what I read https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/brass-monkey-22l-portable-fridge-freezer-gh1624/q-and-a
The freezer section is shown as off on app. Can’t turn it back on. Thru app and manually. Any ideas guys. Cheers
I didnt know I had an App? cant see any use for it anyway. Are you talking about this 22l Freezer GH1624?
If you take middle divider out ot automaticallyturns off one side
I have an F1 fault , what do I do?
Answer directly from Brass Monkey website. Hope this helps. What is the F1 fault on a brass monkey refrigerator? The battery gear should be set from H to M or from M to L if there is a voltage protection code F1 shown on the panel. The battery gear should be set to H if the product keeps working after turning off the car engine, or the product may drain the battery. same time for three seconds to reset the settings.
Does a 22L Brass Monkey Fridge have an inbuilt fuse.
The fuze is where the power plug goes in. There is a screw there to access it from what I read I would advise to get a spare fuze as well. Take the one out from your fridge/freezer if not sure what one it is just in case you are somewhere where you cant get one.
Hi, can someone tell me how the ice part works please. Does it work separately like a normal fridge freezer, if I have the temperature set for 3*C for example? I didnt ask this before I bought it. Its plugged in and set up and I cant wait to see. Also can someone please explain what the display screen show please ... I can see and understand the temperature, the lock icon, power settings MAX and M; but what does the 12.5 volt mean and what does the icon to hard left that looks like a battery show? Thanks. M
If you have the fridge set on 3C it will not freeze as 0 deg is freezing point. I found this doesnt keep things frozen. Setting on freeze is -5 deg that freezes and keeps frozen stuff frozen is the best. the voltage display shows what the in voltage is. Mine is showing 14.5 and this is running off 240 charger or AC. The battery level is probably if your using it off your car charger shows the battery strength and will most probably show the input/output from your car battery or battery pack etc. I have tried this on my car using the car charger and seems to be the reason it shows Car bty input. One thing that concerned me is if you leave your car it would flatten the battery but this is not the case as it has a Auto turn off function once your battery is going down. I assume like other car Items if you car battery goes down to say 11v it will turn off the fridge so you can start your car. The voltage will on the bty display will also give you an indication if you are using a Bty pack or maybe solar or some other power source. I use a BTY pack that I got from Anoconda or Jaycar etc etc have them as well. I get up to 24 hrs off the battery pack at -5 deg BUT when I tested it on my 12v cig socket in the car I noticed when I turned off the engine the Fridge/freezer turned off so not a problem as the time you are away from the car is usually a short time e.g 30 mins to hour etc but the fridge freezer is insulated so it should take a long time to actually defrost frozen food or warm drinks etc if you are using the higher temps to just keep things cold. the thing is you must remember to turn the fridge freezer back on before moving off. Not the end of the world though as food will stay frozen for a few hours I suspect. If your at a motel/hotel just use your 240v adaptor to keep it running your room or at your caravan site. Hope this helps anyone with this fridge freezer. Any other questions let me know Just a hint as well that I learnt with my 50L Waeco fridge freezer that I have and have been using for years but got this one as takes up less from in the car being 22ltr and handy for smaller trips. When you open the lid do not open the lid fast and all the way as this creates a vacumn that drags all the cold air out of your freezer rapidly. Just open it slowly and prevents the on rush of air from you Cooler.
does this model have buletooth
No it doesn't, but you don't need it
No but has a USB port built in for charging phn etc
Hi, My 22L fridge freezer is set to 3° but the display shows 43° on the display. The inside is cold but cannot get the display to show correct temp. Any ideas? Have had no problems until now.
Hi Jenny. I had a problem in February with mine where it showed 36 and only went higher, but the inside was freezing everything! I got the following instructions from Jaycar: Factory reset: - Leave 12V power connected and switch to standby by pressing and holding the power switch until the display goes blank - Press and hold the Settings button until display shows E1 - Press and hold the Up and Down buttons at the same time until the display shows 188 or 888 - Press and hold the power button to restart.
I couldn't get it to work so I went in to Jaycar and they tried. It still didn't work and I'd had it for a year, so they replaced it then and there once they viewed my receipt - I actually bought it from a different Jaycar store and they called the store with the date I purchased it and that store emailed them my receipt. If your fridge is less than 3 years old and you can't fix it and they can't fix it, they should give you a replacement if you show them the receipt. Hope this helps!
Does my 22 litre Brass Monkey fridge have a fuse? Can you tell me where to find it.
It should be next to the power socket (under the plastic tab).
Hi my fridge is set to 6c for drinks but they keep freezing even if I turn the temp up it does the same thing , the out side temp can be up to 40c any help please

Hello, I have a Brass Monkey 50 litre running 100 % fridge at 5c. Works great However voltage is indicating consistently below my other meters ie several read 12.75 for example, brass monkey reads 12.3 on its screen. Multi meter reads 12.75 at brass monkey 12v feed ??? When house battery bank is in charge mode either solar or genset voltage on brass monkey reads 13.3 or higher. Problem seems to be in battery only mode and it’s readings are consistently down by .5 volts
Can the voltage indicator be reset or synchronised
Thank you
The answer is simple. You have voltage drop through your wiring. The DC cable which comes with the unit is only 1.3mm2 over a 3 meter length. This alone gives close to a half a volt drop. Then calculate the length and size of your wiring from the supply to the plug you are using and add this to the equation and bingo you have the voltage drop on your system. I replaced the wiring supplied with 10mm2 cable over about 6 meters and have only 0.1 volt drop. You can work out your voltage drop with this calculator https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/voltage-drop-calculator.html
Is there, and if so where is the internal battery on the GH-1624? When I remove external power whether it’s 12v or 240v it will not remain on. I was led to believe it has an onboard battery. Thanks
You'd need to buy an optional battery, however the GH16* range doesn't take the optional battery only the GH20* range.
what does f1 mean on brass monkery 15lt esky
F1 means Fault code 1. Your starter or auxiliary battery is low and fridge won't operate properly.
thanks
How do you keep fridge working when car not running
You'll need a portable battery pack or lithium/deep cycle battery. Have a look at the KickAss website for further details on how to install it all or on their YouTube videos
Hello, as suggested by Yoshi, battery back up is good for short duration and trips - if camping or extended periods, auxiliary battery in vehicle is even better - you don't drain your starting battery then, plus you can hook up solar charging etc. to keep the battery topped up when camping - if only for day trips and short term a lithium back up pack, deep cycle battery would be good, - regards AFK
Do I need a 2nd battery to keep this fridge running all day at work. Have a very large battery in a ex telstra hiace.
That's hard to say as I don't know if you are working a 8 hr day or 12+hrs and how old yr van battery is. It's always good protocol to run a 12v fridge off a second auxiliary battery because the are made to be drawn from or something like a KickAss handy pack or an itech 300 etc. If I was you and I was going to try it ide also Carry a portable jump start kit incase yr hiace battery goes flat. Adventure Kings sell them for about $79 on eBay or any other type. Hope this helps
With the models that support the lithium battery, does the battery take over as soon as the Auxiliary power is turned off, and does the battery cha4ge when docked in the fridge and the fridge plugged in?. Thanks
I find a good brand of battery pack lasts a long time. possibly as long as you charge your bty pack up at home. Got a good one from Anaconda but they last and have a lot of features. Even if they only last say 6 hours your food and drinks should stay cold in the freezer/fridge because of the insulation.
Does anyone else have issues with ice inside the walls. Fridge is set at 5° and there is ice. Set fridge at 9° and still had ice. There is 100mm at the back.
Hello, havent struck this issue..mine seems to hold temp ok. Have you put a manual fridge thermometer into the cabinet to check temp against the screen readout. Does the fridge cycle down when it reaches set temp or does it keep going.i had an evakool fridge that wouldnt cycle down ( headed into freezer territory) and it had a faulty thermister. Regards Afk
Hi. Thanks for your reply. I put in a manual thermometer and it read the same. It cycles up and down and works perfectly fine except for ice on the walls. It It pretty close to the side walls of the cabinet so maybe that is the problem. Have no where else to put it
Hmm the walls are all freezing elements but havent had this problem. Could be condensation from when you open and close your lid? Dont open your fridge fast and all the way as this creates a Vacuum that expels the cold air in the fridge and allows warm air in. Open your fridge slowly and dont leave it open to long.
How does the GH1624 perform as freezer only ? Any problems/recommendations ?
It performs well, but I would also get a cover to help with insulating it. It will use 4 amps an hour on -18
Agree with the cover as that is insulated as well and can make the unit more efficient power wise etc. The eco uses less amps as well but I would experiment at home. I put a bag of ice in my fridge and set it at 0 deg on eco and the next morning the ice was water. Went to Max and set it at -5 and put a bag of ice in it with a plastic bottle half filled with water. Ice had not melted at all. The plastic bottle had not frozen though. So the story is if you put things in frozen -5 might be the go. If not frozen you would most probably have to put the Temp on -20 to freeze and then once frozen drop it down to -5. Have had a 50l Waeco for 30 years and always used -5 with frozen articles. The good thing with the Waeco it had duel comapartments for Freezing and cooling. Got this 22 l model for shorter trips and size in Vehicle a lot less. 50L are pretty big and take up a lot of space.
How do I reset the unit
I'm not aware of any reset settings for this unit
The only reset i know of is to long press 0 for 3 seconds and you can change battery cut off settings etc. Regards Afk
