Why turning ON fan is easy (i.e.. remote can be pointed almost anywhere), but turning it OFF is almost impossible? Need to come very close and point remote exactly at the center of the base?

Hi Dima, Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry to hear you are having trouble turning your machine off. The signal comes from the same part of the remote, normally, we wouldn't anticipate any problems.

If not done already, we would encourage you to replace the battery in the remote (battery type CR2032) and retry. If this doesn't improve the machine's responsiveness to the remote, please email askdyson@dyson.com.au, and we will be in touch to assist further.

Best wishes,

Shan

Well, the problem is not the remote. As i mentioned, I can turn on the fan across the room with just pointing the remote in general direction of the fan. It is very responsive to ON command. So battery is ok.

Turning OFF or issuing any second command afrer the initial ON command is a problem.

The fan does not respond at all, unless I get very close and point the remote at the base.

Same problem when I try to use Harmony Hub. I programmed it to operate as a remote. It can easily turn it on, but any subsequent commands require me to move the fan right next to Harmony hub and point hun at the bottom.

So there is some issue here.. please help to resolve.

Hi

I have never had that problem with mine. I think something must be faulty with the fan. I would return it if it's in warranty.

Hello, I have just bough Am08 fan for my bed bound mum. It has turned itself on twice in the first day of plugging it in. Has this happened to anyone else? The remote control was on top of the fan at the time. Thanks for reading.

Hi Sally, I have the AM08, and am personally happy with it, but if you go by reviews on product review, the AM07 is the more popular version. Like I said in my review, the AM08 is noisy once you get past level 5, being the mid level, so that leaves 5 noisy levels that you may never use because it's too noisy for you. In the Brisbane heat, I really don't care how noisy my fan is, as long as I'm cool. That doesn't suit everyone, I know. I think the best thing for you to do is go somewhere like JBHifi or Harvey Norman, and compare both - ask the sales assistant to have both plugged in at the same time so you can hear any differences, play with the remote/s, feel the wind strength, etc. Also, it is important to keep the air vents, in particular, cleaned at least weekly. If I don't do it weekly, I notice the fan gets louder as the weeks go by. As soon as I vacuum the vents, it is so much quieter.

Good luck:)

Hi Sally, I haven't used the AM07, so I don't know anything about that model, except in seeing a picture of it. In my opinion the mechanical parts probably work about the same as the AM08, since the base on each one look pretty much alike. Let me share an opinion. In most normal type fans if used for awhile, the blades will accumulate dust, dirt and develop gunk so they have to be cleaned eventually. In the Dyson fan the mechanical parts are all in the base, air is sucked in the bottom vent and comes out the top thru the rings. So, what I found is that the dirt, dust and gunk still gets sucked into the unit, builds up over time on the moving parts and eventually caused my fan to quit completely. And now your stuck, because you don't have a way to clean it unless you take it completely apart which I found difficult to do, and I don't think Dyson recommends it, since they told me I'd have to replace the entire unit. So, in my opinion I think they recognize that it's too much of a chore to try to clean. Not to mention you have to buy a special screwdriver just to get into it. It took me a couple of hours to figure out how to take it apart, clean it, put it back together, and I couldn't find any online videos or manuals to help because once again, I don't think Dyson encourages a person to do it. As to noise, it is not absolutely quiet, because the turbine in the base is spinning to generate air flow, and the higher the setting, the more noise. But, I found that it is probably a littler more quieter than most blade fans.

Hi

Thank You both for your answer to my question and concerned. I will take the advise to go down to Harvey or JBHIfi to listen again to the noise. And decide which one is better. Have a great day

I recently bought a 2nd am08. It does cool as good as the 1st one that I have. Other than adjusting the thermostat, is there any other adjustments that can be made to this fan. I can sit both fans next to each other and the fan I bought about a year ago clearly in blowing cooler air than the one I just bought. Thank you for your help. Keith

Hi Keith, Thank you for your question. The AM08 does not come with a thermostat that you can adjust. These machines will only push around the existing air in the room and not cool the air like an air conditioner. I hope this has answered your question, if you are still experiencing this issue please contact our help line on 1800 239 766. Our help line is open Monday-Friday 8am-6pm and on the weekends 8.30am-4pm.

Best wishes,
