Bought a new battery for my DC35 - it arrived charged up and worked fine. Just trying to recharge it but the charger light goes off after a couple of minutes. It's not charging. Dont want to buy a new charger in case it's (again) something else. Can anyone help - and please dont say "reach out to our Dyson team ...." . I KNOW it's no longer supported!

Dyson
Dyson   DM

To confirm, the DC35 machine is still supported with the majority of parts still available. As we'd hate to give the incorrect advise, we would ask for you to get in touch with our Dyson Experts via auaskdyson@dyson.com so we can troubleshoot and give advise specific to your machine to get this sorted.

We hope to hear from you and look forward to getting this sorted.

I have the typical problem with the DC 35 and I have read many-many issues that are all the same. By now Dyson should have a sure fix for this stopping while on high. I have checked the filters, checked the switch under the filter, cleaned all the contacts I could reach. Made no difference when the vac. was on high. Any tricks I can try?? For the cost of these vacs. I would have expected to have it run forever.

Hi there, Thank you for your query. I am sorry to hear you are experiencing your machine turning off while running on Max, this could either be due to a blockage or restriction in airflow through the machine, or something untoward within the machine.

So we can further assist, we would kindly ask you to email auaskdyson@dyson.com and our Dyson Experts will be happy to help.

Best wishes,

Which Dyson is now comparable with the DC 35?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Frank, Thank you for your query. Compared to our DC35, our current range (at time of writing) have longer run times, more suction, more brushbar power, and easier to empty bins. While there is no direct equal, in terms of accessories included, the V7 Cord-free machine comes with a similar set and provides powerful cleaning across carpets and hard floors. It can be found via this link: external link

If you have any queries, please email auaskdyson@dyson.com and our Dyson Experts will be more than happy to help.

My Dyson DC 35 only works for a few seconds on full power after a full charge, can you help please?

Sudeep
Sudeep

If you had it for a long time, the battery might have reached the end of its life. You may get a new one from eBay for around $30.

Lyn
Lyn

Hi Bobby, I would call Dyson as your battery may not be holding it’s charge anymore. They may actually replace it for you free of charge depending on how old the machine is. It is worth a phone call to actually find out what the problem is before buying anything

amb24
amb24

These units only have a two year warranty so replacement for battery not likely after that period. The unit has been also been discontinued. I got 5 years of VERY light and very ordinary performance out of my Dyson DC35 but am really rethinking the whole rechargeable battery thing. Appliances like vacuum cleaners should function for many years, not die after a few years use. If the batteries have such a relatively short life they are just adding to the huge waste problem. In my case the whole unit is being ditched after only 5 years and I have replaced it with a small electric vacuum cleaner.

Lyn

Hi Chris I think this happened to one of mine if memory serves me correctly, when I called Dyson they said the actual battery was not holding charge and to send it back. So I did and they replaced the battery and never had problems with the battery after that

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Chris, Thanks for your question. Further checks are required to make a complete diagnosis of the issue with your machine. Please make note whether the light flashes fast (once a seconds) or slow (once every two seconds)

Plug the machine into the charger and look at the light on the charger plug and make note of what the light displays.

Please reach out at askdyson@dyson.com.au with your findings and we will be happy to help you further.

I took the clear bin off to clean it but was wondering if the shroud can be rinsed with cold water to clean thoroughly?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Mel, Thanks for your question. The shroud and the cyclone itself separate the dust particles so only the smallest particles will get into the filter. Washing it, or even getting it damp once, would make the dust stick to the shroud from then on, and inside the cyclone itself and could permanently lower the airflow. We would recommend not to do this.

Instead of washing it, wipe over the shroud with a clean dry cloth or a brush, then tap the top of the cyclone with your hand repeatedly until the dust stops coming out of the base. If you would like to discuss this further please email us at askdyson@dyson.com.au and we will be happy to help.

Hi should you still have suction on Dyson dc35 without filter?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Louise, Thank you for your query. If the filter is missing from your DC35, there will be minimum suction as the filter also assists in sealing the machine. We wouldn't recommend running the machine without the filter as this can cause damage to your machine.

If we can assist further, please email askdyson@dyson.com.au and we will be in touch.

looking at the V8 animal - i currently have a DC35 (which has been great but in more recent times drives me nuts with it cutting out all the time -hubby did a full clean and wipe of the 3 heads) - besides the obvious features noted for the V8 - is the vacuum head size the same in both models or is the V8 bigger?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Barbie, Thank you for your query. The V8 machine's heads are not only more powerful, but also wider as well being approx. 25 cm wide. This will allow you to clean larger areas in fewer passes.

I am also sorry to hear you are having trouble with your DC35. If you'd like a hand with it, please just give us a call on 1800 239 766 with it handy and we will be happy to assist. Our Sydney-based helpline is open Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm.

Hi I don't have the new model and a bit hesitant to buy, as I have had no joy from the DC 35 animal . When I first bought it , I never stopped raving, in fact a few of my work colleagues also bought.

I did send it back to be checked , which was

a while ago , they stated nothing was wrong, and has been cutting out intermittently since.

Really not happy with this service. Which is a shame , not sure if i would chance it

Hi Elle, Hi Shan, I have the same problem with the DC35, as many other Dyson customers appear to have. I have also been in contact with 1800 239 768 who were unable to help me to bring the machine back into proper working order, that is after working through a check list with them. I now have to look at buying another machine, but, reviews indicate that the DC35 is not the only one - cutting out - starting for 10-20 seconds or so - cutting out again - etc., i.e. the DC58, DC6, DC8 appear to have the same problem.

After reading most of the reviews and Shan's standard reply, I wonder why Dyson is not prepared to release what the actual problem is, surely their engineers must know by now where the fault is and should have an explanation? Or are customers to assume that there is a possible fault in manufacturing and Dyson tries to avoid rectification ? Or is the reason for Dyson not addressing the problem just to move customers into another model ?

Isha · DC35 Standard

Hi, my DC35 is constantly pulsing when I hold the the trigger. I regularly clean the entire machine and do so thoroughly. I noticed that if I remove the filter it no longer pulses, I've washed the filter regularly and done so again in trying to resolve this issue. Please advise me on what can be done. Also, I've ensured there are no blockages, it only seems to happen with the filter in. Could it be that the filter needs to be replaced? Thanks in advance.

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Isha, If your machine is making a pulsing sound, this would indicate a restriction in airflow through the machine as the motor is struggling to pull sufficient amounts of air. I would encourage you to email askdyson@dyson.com.au with your details and we will be more than happy to assist and get your machine back up and running.

Best wishes,

I don't have an answer, but I have the same problem...Isha did you get a satisfactory answer?

Isha
Isha

Hi Regina, Dyson suggested I order parts in excess of $170 which I declined and decided to give it yet another clean. I used a skewer to clean the entrance above where the brush bar is located and I found something causing a blockage. It solved the problem. I'd be sure to check for blockages thoroughly, I somehow managed to miss some. I also ended up purchasing another (I gave my DC35 to my mum it still works) from the Good Guys for $290 on sale a few months ago, if you end up looking for another (it's orange in colour and seems to be slightly better in quality than the older ones.) Good luck.

My DC 35 is scratching our hardwood floors. Is there a better head that fits on this vacuum so it won't scratch them anymore? Or what do I do to fix it?

Dyson

Hi Siri, Thank you for your question. The only time you will find the machine marking your floor is if something is caught underneath or there is a missing or broken part underneath. We would recommend to contact our helpline directly on 1800 239 766. Our helpline is open Mon-Fri 8am-6pm and on the weekends 8.30am-4pm.
