I loved my Vac 2nd Dyson bought but it's not lasted the years I thought I'd get out of it – Suction was good, was a bit noisy, ok to manuever, wood, ceramic and carpet but Compared to my other Dyson, it has been a bit of a disappointment, bought for $749.00 from Myers Melbourne, it just stopped working, funny smell, cleaned filter, etc. won't turning on, couldn't have happened at a worse time, at the moment can't even afford to get it fixed. DYSON can you let me know if it could be the motor? Show details
Wish I could leave -5 stars! – Won't bother writing much as I unfortunately bought the same piece of rubbish, $700 vacuum with a 3 year life span, as all the other reviews.my experience: sucks good for a month as long as you clear out the blockages in throat every 10 minutes. Gradually gets worse even though you follow the service guidelines until eventually the motor screams, smokes then dies, typically just out of the warranty period. BUY AN ELECTROLUX. Show details

Never thought it would die so soon! – Yesterday my beloved dyson motor passed away. It has been out of warranty for just over a year. I should have kept my last dyson. It was a trooper. It just went on and on. Until this one died for no apparent reason it was running like a dream. Wasn't doing anything different for it to pass away. It's life consisted of 5 large carpeted bedrooms, 2… Read more
cars and a tiled area of approx 200sqm. Was vacuuming one of the five rooms in our house and a smell started to fill the room and before i could turn it off it was lights out. Now I'm on the hunt for a new vacuum i doubt you can save this one. Not sure if i will go another dyson, looking for something that lasts at least 10 years. I will add though its little cousin the dyson v6 animal handstick is still going strong. Touchwood.

Been a very good vacuum – Wow - I think I must have been lucky wit hthe DC39 that we have gotten, because our's so far (touch-wood), has been good. I'm sorry to read about all the other customers who have had a dud vacuum - that's really shocking! If ind the noise level to be no different to other vacuums that I have had. the tile and carpet floors in my house. I would empty the vacuum every two weeks, just out of my own habits. Cleaning the filter, I don't see a big difference in the suction pressure though.
Our vacuum also gets a hiding! I am using it every couple of days and so far, it's stood the drops and knocks on the tile floors. But, will keep my eyes and ears open for the other points/issues which the other customers have noted in their reviews. It's a sad way to hear about these bad points - when customers have had to fork out hundreds of dollars on a dud vacuum. What's going on Dyson?
Service of our DC39 Vacuum – We had a DC39 vacuum for 3 and 1/2 years when a problem arose with what appeared to me as the motor. I was offered an option to take in for a $65 service + parts. I was a bit scepitcal but my wife, Maria said it would be worth it. and it definitely was. We took it to Osbourne Park, Perth depot and the lady there said she will get it sorted and we… Read more
left it to her. She called me back within an hour and said it was fixed and would only charge the service fee of $65 as it was nothing major.
Waste of money 3 years and it's toast – So for the price this vacuum retails for you would expect it to out last any other cleaner on the market and you would also expect the warranty to be longer than 2 years. For the price I paid I could have bought 6 average vacuum cleaners over the last 3 years. Engine has seized after only 3 years. Minimal use on average 2 hours per week if that.… Read more
Customer service is not very helpful and keeps referring to the standard 2 year warranty vacuum came with. Will not be buying anything branded Dyson ever again. Dyson is just overpriced and very bad quality/workmanship. You should be ashamed of yourself ripping people off like you do. Not surprisingly this model is discontinued because it has loads of complaints.
Terrible and overpriced lasted 3 years – This is the second Dyson i have had in 4 years. First one the engine blew after 7 weeks and this one has last 3 and a bit years. Engine blew up again. Seriously Dyson a $950 vacuum only lasting 3 years? I use my vacuum 4 times a week. This is just not accepatbel at all. Do not call this the Ferrari of vacuums when it is only a Hyundai. Fantastic suction and great follow-up service – I've had this vacuum for a year and am delighted with the fine dust it picks up and really good suction. But yesterday when cleaning the car, I removed the stem and inserted the nozzle brush combo attachment directly into the handle. No matter what I did, the attachment wouldn't come out. The button wouldn't depress to remove it. I rang the… Read more · 2
customer service number this morning, described the problem, was asked what I'd done to try to remove it, and within minutes she had collected my details and had a new handle and attachment on the way. That sort of customer service matches the quality of the vacuum. Very pleased with the cleaner and Dyson's customer service.
DC39 use – After two 10 yr stints with a major brand that required servicing every year, at a cost, we purchased the animal model for pet hair. We've had it a couple of years now and it has done very well, is so light and easy to use, that I now do the vacuuming. We have just had the wand handle break for no apparent reason and I'm waiting for the glue to… Read more · 5

Worth the money? We think so – We are one of those families who seem to change vacuum cleaners every week. We have been through most brands on the market and nearly all on ebay. Our mistake was either buying cheap or avoiding Dyson due to their hit and miss reputation. Well, we finally bit the bullet on a catchoftheday.com sale and purchased the DC39.... vacuum cleaner we have purchased in a decent while now.
Suction; yes, it has plenty and it never seems to lose it, even when approaching the full canister.
Ease of cleaning; yes, it is easy to clean. There is only a couple of buttons to press and you have ejected the canister for cleaning. You simply wash the filter under water, let it dry, and off you go again.
Looks; yes, it has those classic Dyson looks. You either love it or hate it.
Ease of movement; This has to be one of the most surprising features we have noticed, how easily it moves around behind you without having to get into a boxing match over which direction next. The large wheels work in tandem with the small moveable front connector which point the vacuum in the direction you're heading before you even start the forward motion; it is like a pivot system, very smart.
Head/Attachments; Out of the box, we only received the "Clayton's" power head, I say this because it is only run by suction and not actually "powered". However, it does a truly great job on our carpets, lifting contaminants easily and without hours of multiple passes to pick up dog fur. We purchased the hard-floor attachment next and it is a must for those with tiles or hardwood floors. Using the power head made me feel like we were damaging the unit, loud screeches on top of a already loud vacuum cleaner; not good. Using the right attachment made all the difference. Easily glides and pivots seamlessly, extra low to get beneath those cabinets and fridge with ease.
Not for the bad points:
-Length of the suction cord; could have been a little longer. Being 6ft tall, I have long arms, but still find myself bending over most of the time using this vacuum cleaner. I don't believe that there is the option to purchase an extension or replacement cord either.
-Noise; it certainly isn't quiet. While it is no way near the loudest we have purchased, it is not the quietest either. Our baby can sleep while I'm vacuuming but anyone nearby would certainly know it is on.
-Price of attachments; I can understand paying a price premium for the vacuum cleaner itself, but paying a price premium on every attachment is a little steep after you have just shelled out how many hundred dollars on a Dyson vacuum cleaner. This is worsened by the fact that you can only use these attachments with a Dyson, due to the patented click-in system, kind of feels money hungry. Shame on you Dyson.
All in all, it isn't the answer to all things vacuuming, but we believe with all things considered it is worth the money.
If I was to do it again, I would be looking for a package deal for the base unit and required attachments to bring the overall cost down a little more. Do your research and determine what you want, before buying the main unit.
top machine – yes we are so happy of it. we had an old model, after 15 years of using it we gave it back to Dyson and with 30% of the new item we did buy another one . just to make my wife happy as they say ( happy wife is happy life ) so go for it guys and make your wife happy Show reply
Good at first – I brought this model just under 2yrs ago. It worked fine for the first few months, then the suction started to drop. I clean it out after everytime I use it aswell as the filter and no difference at all. I should of got the multi floor one as I find this head that comes with the allergy doesnt work well om floor boards at all handle suction and head

Love it! – We bought this to replace an Electrolux model which did us well but died too quickly. The suction on it is fantastic. We have three pets and I'm an asthmatic with a massive dust allergy. The machine picks everything up. It does struggle a little with larger things, but the pickup on fine dust is what we wanted it for. Would definitely recommend it. Suction is great, moves really well A little loud. Show reply

Best money I have ever spent!! – Wow this machine has blown me away! Decided to splurge on a new vacuum a week ago and so far I have absolutely no regrets. I didn't even crack a sweat the machine does all the work. My carpets look like new and my lounge room rug that I have been planning to replace no longer needs to be as it's been given a new lease of life! Find the trigger head perfect for carpet and hard floors (I have tiles) you do need to turn the rotating brush off when using on hard floors. Although the machine feels quite heavy to lift manoeuvring it is very easy, light to pull and follows you easily (doesn't tip over). Easy to empty, I've emptied it each time I've used it mainly because of the satisfaction I get at seeing what it's lifting from my floors ewwww!! I choose the Allergy mainly because I don't have pets (so didn't need the Animal) and I found it on sale. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the Dyson models judging from the performance of the Allergy, just need to look at your needs and what attachments you would use most. Would happily recommend this to anyone.. Ease of use, manoeuvrability and my as new carpets! Nothing, I know it's expensive but so worth it..
This vacuum cleaner really sucks – We bought one of the original Dyson's "back in the day" and had to replace the vacuum turbine head tool several times due to years of use. When it came time to replace the third turbine head, we decided to buy a new Dyson instead as technology had to have improved since our original machine was made. We were so glad to have bought the new machine… Read more · 1
(and my inlaws were happy to get our previous Dyson!).
Although we didn't like the carpet turbine tool which came with the machine (we rarely use it, so it lives in our Dyson hanging parts bag to look pretty), we bought another heavy duty turbine head tool and are very happy with its suction ability. We also purchased the hard floor tool because it is a necessity in our house.
It didn't take long to get used to the new barrel shape and change in manoeuvrability, less noise and easier filter washing, so that was an improvement on our older machine.
Overall, if you have the right vacuum heads for your floors, you cannot go wrong with a Dyson! :) It sucks very well when you use the correct vacuum head and is a joy to use. Wasn't a fan of the vacuum head that came with the machine.
Save your money – Having previously owned a Dyson vacuum cleaner which I loved, I thought it was time for an upgrade. Unfortunately, I upgraded to the Dyson DC39 Allergy at the recommendation of a sales assistant. Within days I knew that this machine was faulty. It could not even pick up a kernel of corn and frequently 'threw' dust particles across the room (so… Read more
much for the 'allergy' aspect!). The suction also goes on/off intermittently (which is only fixed by picking it up and opening the valve at the top. I find myself continuously going over areas I have previously covered. It's a complete waste of time. There also appears to be issues with the wheels. I contacted Dyson but there recommendation of calling them (on a 1-800 number from my mobile) so that they could somehow diagnose the fault over the phone seemed a bit silly. I'm sure 2 rambunctious toddlers in the background would not really be conducive to a proper conversation. I have since placed it in my storage and use my $10 broom. Works wonders.
Not effective; customer service not helpful
Excellent service from Dyson – I received an email from Dyson asking if everything was ok with my 18 month old vacuum cleaner and I replied that 3 of the little wheels on the bottom of the head have fallen off. I received a reply from a real person, Tracy in less than 24 hours, and when I had given them the details of serial no. where I bought it etc I got a call from Sue, who… Read more · 5
said that I probably needed a different head for my type of floors. So she has replaced the damaged trigger head with a brand new one, and also given me a muscle head which she thinks is better for me.
Dyson give 2 years standard warranty, and an extra 3 if you take out the extended warranty which I didn't take when I purchased the vacuum. Sue also said " no pressure, but if you want to take it out, you don't have to decide today, think about it, we'll give you the full 5 years warranty as from now".
Apart from the broken wheels, this vacuum cleaner is the best I've had, it picks up everything, and is easy to use. I'm telling everyone about the great service I've had from Dyson. Great product, excellent service
Not a fan – Cheap plastic wheels .very awkward .Pet har pickup not real great . DC23 motorhead waay better . If your going to buy a dyson for carpet get an upright their barrel cleaners dont come close . ok on hard floor not great on carpet .ITends to feel heavy on carpet but ok on hard floors .definatley not good on rugs

fantastic cleaner – The Dyson vaccum cleaner performs exactly as described. Makes cleaning a breeze. Clever design with excellent suction. Stores easily and is easy to clean. The additional attachment for cleaning beds etc. works really well on couches also. Too heavy - not suited to my needs – My husband was sold this model just before Christmas. I tried to return it, but no refund even on unopened box. The hose parts are very hard for me to hold (far too thick & heavy) with arthritic wrists. I don't read comics, so cartoon picture instructions are very difficult to work out. Please advise the link for the videos as they are not found at the "getting started" web address in the manual. Ability to easily wash the filter in water. Seems strong suction. Good suction on carpet but not ergonomically designed – I can only compare it to my old vacuum the Electrolux Ultra Silencer. The Dyson is better for suction and the power turbine head is great for picking up hair on rugs and carpet but the Dyson is not as good in all other areas. I still think the price is a bit steep but its well worth it. I bought this vaccum coz i have young children (below 2) and they pickup stuff from the carpets and put in their mouth all the time and i really wanted to give them a better heigenic surrounding.
I love the machine and i am sure you would too .... give it a try .... trigger head, suction, great handling expensive

It cleans really well - but needs a more user-friendly dust barrel – Have recently bought this vacuum - partner has asthma, we have a carpeted apartment, and also a cat. beyond the 'max' level on there. And cleaning it out each time is fiddly and has become very annoying - surely Dyson could have designed a far more user-friendly clean out system for the dust, and frankly - a bigger barrel!
I'm happy with the suction but really disappointed that cleaning out the vacuum barrel after each use takes just as long as the vacuuming itself. Anyone else with this problem? Great suction Dust barrel container is far too small for normal vacuuming and requires fiddly clean out after each use.

Dissapointed – Just bought this vacuum, but am disappointed with the cleaning ability – the floor doesn’t seem clean afterwards. up in a plastic bubble ball
although nothing wrong with the current Electrolux bagless vacuum cleaner ( hose leak fixed with duct tape ), wife insist we should get an allergy friendly vacuum cleaner, after a quick internet search someone actually sell these.
After telling the wife its all marketing ploy ( How much ?!? ) and after enduring lecture on priorities, I bought her one
I'm an engineer and this thing looks fragile, from the handle, ball wheel thingie ( which has point contact to the floor, lets see how well it wears, I'll keep the duct tape close by ) push button, canister release mechanism, steering linkage etc
having said that, I can't fault the built quality and it does look very unusual, someone took time to design this good looking vacuum, nice choice of colour as well
apart from very efficient use of material ( thin ) it does make it lighter than the Electrolux, BUT
dust canister is smaller than the Lux
bits of fluff will get stuck on the inside mesh of the canister which require full dismantle or a longish skinny brush and patience
1 hand emptying of the canister is not possible and requires a bit of planning
this ball wheel does steer but you'll still run into thing
cord is 3 meters too short
wife is happy and that is the main thing ....

So I bought a Dyson. I've been reading user reviews for a while & the overwhelming consensus has been positive so I bit the bullet & bought a $693 vacuum cleaner...anyway, best investment in ages! OK, so I've re-read my review & I promise I'm not some crazy OCD clean freak! I'm just your average house-wifey with an asthmatic kid!
Best on the market – The Dyson DC39 Allergy is the best vacuum cleaner I've ever used. It picks up every bit or dirt and specks of dust, I was shocked by how much dirt is collected.
