Dyson DC39 Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi how can I remove the top one ?
Hi my Dc39 makes a high pitched sound when in use. I’ve checked for blockages but there doesn’t seem to be any. The filter is also clean. Is this a motor issue? Thanks
sorry Tanya I am an end user like you and this is not the problem that I had with mine. The motor failed on my Dyson and required a full replacement motor, the noise it made was not like you descibe.
Thanks Wayne.?is worth getting the motor replaced or just getting a new machine?
A high pitched sound is certainly not to be expected. So we can best assist, we would kindly encourage contacting our Dyson Experts via phone or live chat. You can find our details and chat links here: external link .
We hope to hear from you and look forward to assisting.
I have a DC39.
Lately the animal turbine head is spinning on hard floor but does not want to turn on when on low pile carpet. It is now also making a noise which sounds like a "sigh" but only when I turn it off.
I have stripped the turbine head down and cleaned it and it all seems fine. There are no cracks in any hoses or in the body where I thought it may have been losing suction.
The suction seems okay but I actually have no idea how to tell if it is operating on full suction, or not.
Any ideas on what else I should check would be welcome
Many thanks
If the suction at the end of the wand of your machine is strong, this can indicate the Triggerhead of your machine may need replacing. A new Triggerhead can be purchased online here: external link If you'd like to run through diagnostics with us to confirm prior to purchase, we are only happy to help. Our Dyson Experts are available via phone, live chat or Facebook Messenger, you can find our contact details here: external link
Hi, thank you for your reply.I took the barrel and filter out and cleaned it and it is now turning on short pile carpet. However; the machine is now making a noise like a "sigh" when I turn it off. I am thinking that could be related to suction. If you are familiar with this issue, please let me know. Many thanks
So we can further assist, we would kindly encourage reaching out to our Dyson Experts directly and we'll be happy to help with this.

I have the same issue with my DC39 making a noise which sounds like a "sigh" when turned off. What was the source and solution to the problem?
Does the Dyson DC39 have any visible spinning components?
Hi Ian,
Thank you for your question.
Some models do come with a Turbine head which is a spinning floor tool.
You may also find sometimes the dust will spin around the clear plastic bin.
I have an ongoing issue with the Dyson 39 continually shutting off. I have taken it apart, there are no clogs and I have cleaned the filter. I leave it sit - it turns on - and then shuts off again after a minute or 3 of use.
Hi Pam, Thank you for your question and we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your machine. If after cleaning the filter and making sure there are no blockages there is still an issue we'd recommend reaching out to our helpline so we can run through some checks together in real time. Please contact our helpline via phone or live chat through external link and one of our experts will be able to help resolve this for you.
Hi Pam. There is a small flat tube behind the rotating cleaning brush head. It is not very noticeable and quite hard to get at but when I had trouble this had a few obstructions in it and was full of fluff. Since clearing that small tube I have not had a problem and the suction has been incredible and it has not shut of since. The vacuum also made a horrible noise like the electric motor brushes were on their way out but once this tube was cleared it was end of the alarming sound. Good luck.
What the price for dc 39multi floor
I need help with my DC39 Animal. Im not sure how old it is but I try to take care of it. It is losing a good bit of its suction just after I turn it on. I checked all the usual suspects but no luck. I cleaned every thing in the removable canister and let it sit for a day to dry hoping it would fix the problem but no such luck. when the canister is removed, I put my hand over the place where it sucks air in that's attached to the handle and the suction is so strong i can raise my arm and lift it off the ground so I can eliminate the problem being in the body right? Like I said I cleaned everything in the canister! When I turn it on it sounds great for a couple second but than it makes a sound like a rubber door flaps and I lose much of my suction. I called the 800 number and we walked thru the checklist of cleaning and such. there are no Dyson approved repair places anywhere around me and I'm unsure if I want to take it just anywhere. I would appreciate any help I can get. Like so many others money is non existent these day I need my DYSON

Hi Sharon. I have the same problem these days. Were you able to resolve this somehow?
no
I have a DC39 and I have a question about using the Triggerhead on hard floors. Is the Triggerhead designed to work better on floors with the brush spinning or not spinning? The manual was not clear. I noticed that pressing the button stops the brush from spinning, but doing this seems to decrease the suction power.
My Dyson dc39 won’t spin on carpet anymore. It stalls. It will spin on bare floors. I’ve cleaned the brush and everything. Still nothing
Understanding you have cleaned the brush, we would kindly encourage running through the checks outlined here: external link In the event this doesn't solve the difficulty, please get in touch with our Dyson Experts on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy. The end cap keeps popping off the trigger head.... will it be enough to replace this part to fix this problem?
So we can assess this for you and best assist, we would kindly encourage forwarding your question, along with photos of the end cap and Trigger head to auaskdyson@dyson.com. Our Dyson Experts will only be happy to help.
My filter will not just lift out like on YouTube - is there a secret ?
The filter of the DC39 should easily lift up and out. If not, please forward photos of your machine, it's serial number and a copy of your question to auaskdyson@dyson.com and our Dyson Experts will be in touch to assist.
the brush bar on my dc39 wont stop spinning when I pull the trigger for bare floors mode. How do I troubleshoot this?
To confirm, pulling the trigger inside the handle of the DC39 will reduce suction, but not stop the brushbar. To stop the brushbar, please press the silver button on the outside of the handle. Once pressed and released, you should find the brushbar stops spinning.
If not, or if we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com and happy to help.

I need a replacement trigger head for the DC39 as the head constantly spins, I have read other posts on line and it appears to be a common problem when they fail. I have been into your site for spares, and also clicked on a link from a previous post, but the are no trigger heads on your site for the dc39.
We don't anticipate regular difficulties with any part of your DC39 machine. Quite often, troubleshooting can fix the problem and you can find our troubleshooting tool here: external link Should you still experience difficulty and/or need to order a part, please give our Dyson Experts a call on 1800 239 766. The brush mechanism is moving very slowly and and there is no suction... What could be the issue?
Jody [number removed]
Loss of suction is often due to a restriction within the airways of the machine. We kindly encourage going through the troubleshooting via this link: external link If we can assist further, our Australian Based Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com

Does anyone know which head attachment for the Dc39 you use for high pile carpet?
While we would encourage contacting your flooring manufacturer for their advice, the Musclehead or Turbine head provided with your DC39 machine is designed to provide powerful carpet cleaning. If you find it isn't working as you'd expect, or you have any queries, our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com and only happy to help.
The head that comes with the Dyson dc39, absolutley is not for high pile carpet. The brush almost stops, and you cannot push the vacuum over the carpet freely without struggle. This head is more for low pile, to burbur, to hard floors. There is no adjustment for higher thicker pile carpeting.
So we can further assist, we would encourage emailing our Dyson Experts via auaskdyson@dyson.com and we will be happy to help. We also encourage contacting your flooring manufacturer to confirm their advice on what style floor tool would be best for your specific carpets.
The 2 rotors on the small attachment for animal hair on dc39 aren't spinning. Can you tell me how to rectify this?
As the turbine head is driven by suction power, this can often occur if there is a lack of airflow through the machine. We would kindly ask you to review the troubleshooting below which should help: external link
If not, please get in touch with our Dyson Experts via auaskdyson@dyson.com and we will only be happy to further assist.

Can you use the soft roller cleaner head with DC39?
Hi Nelda, Thank you for your query, we are happy to help. Apologies for any disappointment, however the Soft Roller Cleaner Head is not compatible with the DC39 as the DC39 doesn't feature the electrical connections required to power it.
Should you need a hard floor tool for your DC39, the Swivel (Articulating) Hard Floor Tool is available and compatible. This can be purchased online via this link: external link
I hope this helps, however if we can assist further please email auaskdyson@dyson.com and our Dyson Experts will be in touch and happy to help.
Best wishes,
Shan
