Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge/Freezer DC40-DRW Questions & Answers

I’ve not used it as a freezer. As a fridge set at 4C, it draws 4A to 5A when on, which varies from about 1/4 to 1/2 of the time - depending on the ambient temperature. This agrees with the spec of 2.4Ah. As a freezer, I would expect it to draw the same current but with a much higher duty cycle of well over half the time - say, 1/2 to 3/4 of the time or around 5Ah.

It needs a new compressor control board and possibly a new display board - just like my frig, which has been working well since its repair.

Change the type and capacity of the fuse as startup current can be much higher than normal running current.

They dont have a fuse, they use a resettable circuit breaker,

Perhaps you went over a bump and dislodged the compressor from its rubber mountings? Take the cage off (I leave mine off) so that you can fix what’s causing the rattle.

Did all that, you can shake the fridge and it rattle from the round black thing. Everything is mounted correctly.

? I have also sent an email to warranty at Evakool. No response as yet.

Spoke to Evakool and said it’s normal noise. Taken to different refrigeration technicians and all told me it’s not normal. Worst fridge I have purchased.

I agree that it could be the electronics in the control unit and/or the display board. Needs servicing.

Make sure each side slides are in correctly and with the white plastic lock levers pressed up and down as the case may be for each side. It may take a few attempts for the slide to work in and out without the food tray.

My did that to and the fridge bloke said it was the plugs come lose inside then a few weeks later it won't get down to temp took it back and the main component had cooked itself so far the compressor is going good

Thanks for the reply, I have turned it off over night and today it is working-(i have done this before and it worked for 3 hours then stopped again) I have tried to contact a service agent but with no luck, all busy, I will keep trying

Ok, I find the door doesn't seal properly and it doesn't run very efficiently. Thats been my experience, only one latch in the middle of the draw at the top.

Great fridge. Really struggles as a freezer.

I have two 40l draw fridges. One was only working when it felt like it and the other now has stopped altogether. The service agents advised that each fridge would cost $110 to look at it and take 2 to 4 weeks and then at least another 4 weeks to repair. I took both apart and the problem was simple. The incoming power goes through a 20 amp breaker . 13 volts before the breaker and 1 volt after. Removed the breaker and bingo, both now perfect. so check power to the circuit board at the rear.

Evakool, what is your response to this and why have you not done a product recall as it appears to be a manufacturer issue that is costing your clients alot of money???

Is this a simple fix ? Mine is tripping out after only running for a short period of time. I press the reset on the rear of fridge and it starts again. Do you think I have same issue as yours John?

Have you hooked up the drainage pipe correctly? When purchased the drain pipe is zip tied at the back of the fridge. This should help drain the condensation.

Thanks for getting back to me. I contacted Evakool just now and all they said was to put the pipe in a downward position. Is that the only thing I need to do?

Yes, if you set up the drain pipe correctly then the excess condensation will be able to escape the fridge and will stop pooling.

Will this cause water to pool around the drainage tube in the cab of my vehicle? Do I insert the small white bung into the tube once in a downward position to prevent this? If I insert the bung, surely we are back to the same issue of poor drainage.

Please advise exactly "how to set up the drainage tube correctly".

Hi Simon, The drain tube can be set-up in many ways depending on your set-up. If you're setting it up in a canopy then most people will feed the drain pipe through the bottom of their tray so that the water can drain from the fridge, through the pipe and expell outside of the canopy.

Thanks. I spoke to them and they were not able to give any useful advice as per my message above. Alot of people get these fridges if they have SUVs rather than Ute's as they make more sense for that space. If the drainage tube needs to drain externally from the vehicle, this may cause issues for SUV owners as people may be more reluctant to drill a hole in the cab. It would be worth adding this info in your marketing and at least updating the manual as it says nothing about drainage.

Hi Simon, It is not mandatory to set-up the drainage pipe, it is merely an extra feature to suit particular set-ups. You can simply wipe away any excess condensation from the fridge. The higher the ambient temperature and the more you open the fridge = more condensation. Condensation is created when the dry air (from the fridge) meets humid air (external to the fridge), hence this issue is not directly caused by the fridge but by the environment. This would be the same with any other fridge.

Hi Lance, In theory, yes you can do this, however it's hard to say without knowing your full set up. Most important aspect is to ensure enough ventilation, otherwise your fridge/freezers can overheat and underperform.

The fan runs When the compressor runs. It must be hot in your canopy? I have arb canopy and never had this problem. Some fridges will handle very high heat more than others, some probably never cut out. Just run continuously. Maybe call the company and ask.? Cheers

Yeah the canopy was open with all the doors up and in the shade, does yours struggle in the heat ? I am an Engel man through and through but though I would give this Dc40 a try as everyone said good things about them . So the Fan should be on 100% of the same time as the compressor ?

I have called your tech department and asked for a wiring diagram so I can check the fan but still haven't had it emailed to me yet. The fridge itself is 3 yrs old but only unpacked and installed 4mths ago , I would hope it would try to keep up with my engel MT40.

Hi Warren. The RRP of our old model was $899. Occasionally, some retailers would put this item on promotion for $650 however this was not the retail price. This model was discontinued around March 2020 while we made some upgrades and improvements and we released our new model draw fridge in August 2020 with an RRP of $1099. Our new model comes with a Secop compressor and a longer warranty, as well as minor internal upgrades to the display panel, addition of interior LED light, basket divider and lids (highly requested by customers) and longer drawer runners.

Why isn't it an option to purchase the new tub, basket divider and lids as an accessory for the older model fridge? I have emailed and emailed your sales dept and they are as useless as tits on a bull, no response at all - makes me wander if they just delete these emails???

I want to give you my money for this but something so simple seems to be so hard???? Surely you can see the $$$$ to be made here????

Tentworld online. When they first came out they were $550.! I just missed that sale and paid $650. This model is better than mine, draw rolls out more distance and fan is more protected at the back.

Sorry I haven’t run it as a freezer yet, but it shouldn’t be a problem? Might drag more power and run more often...
