Hi Everyone, we have a Highland HP6SS N/L Gas cooktop and firstly one and now two of the burners continue to click even after the gas has been supplied to the ring. The Unit is still in very good condition and I was wondering if anyone has had any recent success in fixing this problem and is it worth the expense of having a technician attend?

Igniters won't stop after using. How can I kill it before the entire house goes mental. NJ

Hi there, hope you can help. I have been using the Highland 6 Burner Gas Cooktop for over 10 years and in recent years we have found that we have had trouble starting the fire. Maybe this is because the igniter is old already.

- Where do we get the replacement parts? - Do we need an electrician to fix it or we can replace it ourselves? - The burner gas also go out as soon as I release the knob. Is this do with the igniter?

Thank you

Hi, Just wondering if you have found where to get spare parts. We need to get a new capacitor.

There is food under one of the knobs take the knobs of and use WD40 and spray the electrical switches to free them up again

What product should be used to clean burners etc

P.W. Smith

Heavy duty oven cleaner - I cannot recall the name, but it is available at supermarkets in a small white box. very powerful acidic cleaner - will return any oven or stove rack or burner to new condition..

I have a HIG906s1N cook top Do you have a Replacement ignition kit as this does not work Also wok burner lights but goes out as soon as you release knob ? Can burners be Recoated as they have discoloured with cleaning ?

P.W. Smith

Mick, As a matter of fact I have a brand new igniter, but I cannot tell you what my model was as I now my cook top as a boat anchor. That is all it is good for. I got this through a small dealer in Melbourne I think it was. It is still in the packet - never opened. OI will sell it for what it cost me - $400, but I cannot give any guarantees that it is the right kit, that it will do what you need or even fit your model.

The wok burner problem is one of proper cleaning. I use a commercial oven cleaning kit - place the burners in the plastic bag provided and soak them in the solution for several hours. Then clean off and take a small wire and clean each small gas outlet hole individually. It is a pain, but that is the only way I could keep them alight.

I rcoated by using simple stove black - availabe at BUnnings. That seemed to work OK.

Good luck!

The electronic ignition keeps lighting on its own every few seconds. What can I do to fix it?

P.W. Smith

That is a change. Mine will not light at all. I tried to find new igniters but they are not made any more. In fact I cannot find spare parts anywhere except on ebay. I eventually bought a BBQ lighter to light the thing.

Try cleaning the element and igniter. There might be food or grease that keeps the knob depressed. Otherwise do what I did. Take the thing to the tip and buy anything but Highland.

Ok highland owners I would like to know if I am the only person in Aussie that has this issue(apparently I am).

I have found that the gas controls in the showroom and for the first few weeks of use in my home are silky smooth.

After a few weeks and under heat conditions the gas controls become jerky and binding.

Not sure if a lack of decent hi-temp grease in the valves or brass bodies distorting/expanding with heat??

Valves I was told are top of the wazzer German made?

Hi, I dont have that particular problem, however, having had the cooktop working for over a year now, I find that I cant control the level of flame as easily as I could initially...ie it seems to be on/off but very little control in between.

I had an initial installation installation problem which was quickly and efficiently managed (and we live a long way from Melbourne).. I am just about to address this issue with them, and expect that they will offer the good service they did last time!! (fingers crossed).

I really love that this is an Australian company, and really want them to stay in business...so I hope they see the importance of excellent customer service to ensure their survival!

Hi, Mine's 11 years old (HP6SS) and never missed a beat. I'm building shortly and the only reason I won't buy another is we are tree-changing and will be off grid so we are having induction. Don't want the hassle of gas.

What's with high temp grease? There's no heat at the control valve.

It seems the later ones were plagued with the "clicking" igniters but mine's been fine.

I have only two grumbles - the screen printing wore off because the cleaners keep scrubbing with Jif despite my insistence not to, and the trivets are a bee's d*** out of level so the oil runs to the front of the pan on the wok burners. Cupboard is level, cooktop is level. They replaced the trivets for free, but they must bend with the heat?

Hi Dougal, "What's with high temp grease? There's no heat at the control valve." there is plenty of heat transfer via the 3mm slab of stainless top and hi output burners in close proximity to the control valves. I have had gas controls lock up and require a firm hand to shift them.My problem has been verified by two highland techies and highlands state rep.

"the screen printing wore off because the cleaners keep scrubbing with Jif despite my insistence not to" I also had that and had the control panel replaced twice(with 3rd also losing letters) but I only used soapy water and a dishcloth.....screen print is useless and has no longevity which is why highland tops now have etched printing.

"the trivets are a bee's d*** out of level so the oil runs to the front of the pan on the wok burners.....they must bend with the heat? "

Mine too...yes heat is the issue once again....my cooktop also bowed up 3mm in the middle...also a heat issue.

Hi,

I recently have problems with my highland cooktop and I have read some reviews it's seem like lots of you have the same problems as mine with the ignitor keep playing up. Has anyone eventually get the problem fix? What is the outcome? I have problems getting the cooktop fix.

Yes, we had a representative come out and replace the ignightor system. It is a common problem wirth an easy solution, the original ignition system was substandard. The new parts have operated without fault, the service technician was spot on.

Hi, my response is the same as Andrews...our problem was fixed quickly and efficiently by a representative organised by Highland themselves. As we live a long way from the city it was not an actual Highland technician that did the work, but the fellow they sent was excellent.

No problems since it was fixed

Hi Alim Yes we posted that we had a problem with the wok igniters not igniting and Highland would not fix because I was out of warrantee by one month even though this is a known problem of theirs....so they didn't score any brownie points with me for that. Subsequently someone else has pointed out that you still have "statutory rights" after the warrantee is over.

However I contacted a gas fitter near me whom is their preferred service agent and he spoke to them on my behalf and managed to get a "free kit" from them that solved the problem. I had to pay for his labour to do it but it did fix the problem and only cost $200 or so dollars.

If I had persevered with Highland I think i would have got it done for free so i would try that avenue with them.

Our kit which solved the problem had been in for a few months and is still working well.

Cheers

Ceri

Hi all, I have three services from highland doesn't fix the problem, poor service from them, I purchased the cooktop from winning appliances. I have called consumer protection, even its over the warranty If the products unfit for purpose you still can ask for refund or fix. If you have problems dealing with the the seller consumer protection will help you to deal with it. Thanks for everyone answered my question :)

Hi Alim....I also have had igniter probs....I have had the upgraded igniter system....this also kept the ye olde tick tick reignition problem happening....they returned with another fix....disconnect the wok burners from the reignition system...if you call disconnecting a feature a fix?

I call it a design flaw/fault.

After dealing with highland customer service, I strongly recommend not to buy any products from highland. Worst customer service ever. Not worth the money! If somewhere I blacklist them I will. Worst decision to buy highland products!
