The machine has been working great for years, that's why I'm here asking how to fix it rather than just dumping it. First of all it blew the circuit breaker when it started to spin. No burnt smell. I reset it then took the back off the machine to see if it sparked anywhere. Looking at the drum from the back it ran ok in a clockwise direction but there was a blue sparky light show around where the brushes are when it ran anti clockwise. I couldn't see the brushes directly. I removed the motor and took the brushes out - there wasn't any wear on the commutator so I cleaned it with acetone. The brushes are a little over 2cm long. Now that it's all fitted up the machine will only run clockwise for a few seconds then stop and the timer will reset. Are the brushes long enough?

Hi Graeme, the WD-1018C does have a drain filter, please refer to your owners manual page 4 for location and page 21 for maintenance tips. If you don't have a copy of your owners manual you can easily download one from our product support page at external link  In regards to the smell, this is generally attributed to a build up of mold or scud within the unit, for advice on how to deal with this, best to call LG Customer Care Center on 1300 54 2273 for assistance. Thanks!

The machine gets stuck on the last minute, and just keeps repeating the draining cycle, frequently fails to dry spin and/or stop. Has to be stopped manually.

All cycles are well and truly prolonged, the time left to complete - time shown at the start is not adhered to.

Dear Madam/Sir Your response to my detailed description of the problem that has developed with my LG WD-1018C washing machine is less than satisfactory. You failed to help with an advice, your rep - when I called the number you gave me collected all details like model number, serial number, my address, phone number , then came up with a phone number of the nearest LG service repairman. Very annoying!

I wasted my time with a next to useless info. I did not need to call LG rep to tell me where to repair the machine, I am capable of finding that myself!

So I am not satisfied and finding your help unhelpful

Steven
