Mine was the first post on this forum and just yesterday afternoon, after 16 years of use, our Maytag developed a light brushing noise on each revolution of the drum. I'd never noticed before, but the drum does not spin perfectly in line with the rubber seal at the front, but has a slight deflection, also at each rev. Wash cycle is not affected but when spin cycle starts up, so does a solid banging. I removed the back panel, nothing to work on there, removed the top panel, checked the bolts on the concrete counter weight, all tight, and now I'm stumped as how to remove the front panel so as to get to the drums. Any clues somebody?

What does Error 1 relate to on my Maytag MAF 1300 AAW washing machine.

Two errors that I'm aware of. One is that the water has not been turned on at the wall outlet, and Two, the filter behind the bottom front panel is clogged. Make sure that the machine is empty before releasing the filter cover or you'll be flooded out

Obviously Error # can mean different things, but if you still have your book it denotes different reasons for numbers. Sorry I don't have mine anymore, but a common error was incorrect loading, either by weight or balance. Good Luck

Error 1 means to long drain time which happens when either the lower drain plug/filter gets blocked so unscrew the drain plug and clean it out or its when the impeller on the drain pump becomes worn and no longer spins at the required velocity to be able to pump the water out through the drain pipe the drain pump is easy to replace and can be pulled out of any washing machine or dishwasher as most of them are the same type of pump it's only the newer machines that have different water pumps.

I have a Maytag MAF1300AAW, it is now not starting washing cycle, I have turned off and unplugged then plugged in and it still doesn't start on any cycle. Any ideas?

I have the same model and the machine started but then stopped with message 'Error Number 3". This turned out to be a blocked filter, easily accessed at the front bottom of the machine after removing the kick plate. CATION! If you have a drum full of water, then you'll have a flooded laundry. I've had no other problems with our Maytag.. Hope I'm not being silly, but have you turned the tap(s) on? The machine won't operate otherwise. Sorry I can't be of more help

Thank you. I'll check your suggestions. I don't have any codes that come up on the screen. Fingers crossed.

We had the same problem on one occasion and it also turned out to be a blocked filter at bottom It was a coin turned sideways, but we could not get it out ourselves. Valerie

Not getting any error messages. If I leave the machine unplugged for a day and then plug it back in it'll work for a couple of cycle washes.

Haha, yes it’s turned on. It starts but the water doesn’t sound like it’s coming through quickly

Maytag is showing error number 12. This comes after program selected but before program commences. It sounds like the pump is operating or the motor is trying to operate, then stops when the error message comes on. I cannot find any literature reference to error 12.

Once all water is drained remove the filter and clean it. If the filter is already clean then you either have a twist in the drainage pipe from the pump to the basin of a broken pump. These pumps are very simple and can be detached by rotating them off once you have disconnected the power, and drained all the water. Tilt the unit back and support it so you have clear access to the pumps - there is a metal piece of frame on the LHS as you look at the unit - remove this metal bar and the pumps are directly above this. Rotate each pump off and check to make sure the spindle is still attached to the shaft, if the spindle falls off you will need to glue this back on (use a two pack adhesive). You can also simple swap over the broken pump to the one that works - this means your unit should empty but the recirculation of water won't work,

These units are a piece of junk and while this will fix the pump it's destined for the junk yard soon!! - I've now got a samsung and it's brilliant.

GrungySquash, thanks for your answer. I had already taken the pumps off and checked and cleaned out the filter (was filthy!) and hoses but the problem is still there. The impellers seemed OK. I am now looking around for another washer - second hand again as I have a cash flow problem. Thanks for your response.
