Im sorry to hear you are having difficulty. I never face anything like that. Give a try to customer care or email they will be able to help you.

If you mean milk is leaking from around where you screw the calma onto the bottle, or where the clear silicone teat meets the yellow plastic, something is wrong. Either you have assembled it incorrectly or there is a fault - calma won't leak in any direction, it only dispenses milk when sucked. If you mean the milk is leaking out of baby's mouth, I guess baby isn't closing their mouth fully or isn't swallowing. Certainly take breaks and help baby burp. Watch for when baby is full and doesn't want any more. But in any case you should be speaking to your maternal child health nurse about this. They should be able to book you in with a lactation consultant, where you can go and show them exactly what's happening, and get professional advice.

Hi CWW, thank you for your email. The Calma teat is a vacuum controlled teat, meaning that the baby actually controls the flow of milk. This is why the teat can be used by babies of any age and you don't need to change the size of the teat. Please do not be concerned, it sounds like you have assembled it correctly if you hadn't the milk would be leaking. Warmest wishes Pauline

Hi CubanGenes There are a few situations in which the Calma may drip slightly. If you “overtighten" the teat on the bottle, this may cause leakage, it should be firm but not too tight. If you are holding the bottle upside down it is also possible that a few drops of milk may drip, this happens because the membrane inside the milk flow control system is flexible, not stiff. Whether (minor) dripping occurs depends on the temperature and weight of the milk that presses against the membrane. Dripping may also occur if your baby releases Calma before drinking the portion of milk that they have just drawn from the bottle. I hope this helps, Kind regards Pauline

Hi Trishia, I also find if baby drops the bottle or the bottle ends up upside down a small amount does leak out. It seems to get caught in the teat and not able to get back into the bottle. As for baby receiving fast flow, these nipples definitely helped us but in the end it just depends on how fast baby sucks.

I believe it is a common occurence. They usually can get it out if you pull the bottle out a bit and then they start sucking on it again and pull it back in their mouth. In case they don't they aren't hungry enough. But yes, you will have to hold the bottle upright.

It is common. You have to shake the bottle and then tip it right up in order to get the last remnants. I really hate the design of that teat and bottle. It gives me shivers.

Suggest using the Pigeon slim neck for a soft non drip bottle and teat, I've heard it fits the medala bottles and like the real thing for baby.

Is he getting the right seal on the teat, like he does for the breast? I always looked for the "Special K" lips (from the side the bubs lips look like the K on the Special K cereal box!) then I knew he had a good airtight seal.

We used ours for EBM and formula for one month then formula only for the next two to three months. We only had 2 for a while and then got another but by about 3 or 4 months we found that he could not get enough milk out them to match his thirst. I heard afterwards that they are only meant for breastmilk and that the formula is thicker and damages the valve membrane. So i think in hindsight that the valves were worn from alot of formula and thats why he had trouble with them after not very long. But we did get alot of use out of them when you consider he had 8 bottles a day for a long time and we only had two or three teats. I think it is worthwhile to try her on one, they are around $25 each but if it works then it is priceless. Just be prepared to have to replace it if you are using formula. But most teats need replacing fairly often. She is already 7.5 months so she probably isnt going to be having as many bottles soon and you will get longer out of just one or two of them.

Medela advised me (though its not on the packaging) that the reason my medela calma teats stopped working is that they are not designed to be used with formula nor cows milk. I was not offered a replacement. Breastmilk only, if you want to get a reasonable amount of use out of them for the high cost. Mine stopped working a month or so after using them with formula, don't waste your money on them

I have always used formula in mine and have never had any trouble.

I would try another brand as Medela specifically stated to me when I contacted them that Calma teats are not designed to be used with formula. They won't work for very long if you do try.

Hi Sulani, im not sure what kind of formula that is but if its like any other formula it should work in the calma teet also. You will just need the medela bottles to fit the teet, both the medela size bottles will fit them. Sometimes if bub is very young you may like to prime the milk into the teet first to let baby know theres milk in there. My husband just used to suck the teet a little so there was milk in it before giving it to bub. If you dont want to spend the money on medela bottles the Happy Baby narrow neck bottles should fit also but can leak a little. Hope this helps!

I have used formula in my calma teat with no problems and its had 8 months of use so far. Just be gentle with the washing of it, and I have never sterilized mine. Just washed in hot soapy water, rinse in hot water and air dried.
