Michigan Raptor 900 Questions & Answers
VerifiedWhere do the ends of the throttle spring attach
Hi Bazza, The throttle on the Raptor 900 has different spring and end configurations. Could you please clarify which ends you're referring to and send us a photo for reference? This will help us provide you with the most accurate information. You can send the photo via support@edisons.com.au Regards, Jim
I have already submitted a photo to Edisons
Thanks, Bazza! Our team will be in touch with you shortly via email to provide the information you need. Regards, Jim
Hi. I have a Michigan Raptor 500. I've had it for a long time great machine. Maybe 10 years. Made it work harder than it's probably supposed to over that time. Anyway sat in the shed for a year after blowing the sump gasket and didn't really need it till recently. I've given it a bit of a make over using raptor 900 parts and found the gaskets, throttle assembly, chipper wheel and pullstarter housing (with a little mod - the welded nuts on the inside are in different locations.) everything else compatable so far. The pull starter assembly isn't unfortunately. Anyway... Up and running to a point. Idles for a bit and dies, or throttle it and it dies. Anyone know of a workshop manual for it. Or, any suggestions welcome.
Hi Andrew, It's great to hear that your Michigan Raptor 500 has served you well over the years! It sounds like you've put it through its paces and done some impressive work with the Raptor 900 parts.
It's interesting that you've found so much compatibility between the two models.
Regarding the incompatible pull starter assembly, I recommend reaching out directly to the support team at Edisons through our contact page: external link . Our team will be best equipped to provide specific guidance on parts compatibility, potential alternatives, or any modifications that might be possible or recommended within their product range.
Regarding the idling and dying issue, there could be a few things going on after its year in the shed. In the meantime, please reach out via email so we can assist further.
Regards,
Antonette
Thanks Antonette. I'm all good with the pull starter assembly. I used the housing from the 900 and attached the 500 pull start assembly to it. The holes were already in the housing. The position of the wielded nuts on the inside of the housing are in different locations. 2 matched and I just put some short M8 bolts with nyloc nuts through the others. Good to go!. Think I just need to get the mixture right. Andrew.
Hi Andrew, Thanks for the update — sounds like you’ve done a great job sorting it out with the pull starter assembly! Clever workaround with the housing and bolts. If you need any tips or further guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out to the support team at Edisons through our contact page . external link
Glad to hear you're all set
Regards,
Hana

Hi all I need to replace the mulching wheel on a raptor 900. I can't see how to get the old one off. Any advice please Peter
Hi Peter, ask on “ you tube”instructions to remove wheel and rim.? From what I remember , you just have to straighten the pin with pinch pliers . Pull it out then remove washer. Hope this helps.
Hi Peter, Here's a digital copy of the Raptor 900's product manual. On page 9, there's a step on how to install the split pin and washer that locks the wheel from its position. Just kindly undo it and let us know if it helps.
Online manual: external link
Kind regards, Jay
thanks for that, but it is the main mulching wheel attached to the engine that i need to replace, not the wheels of the unit.
Hi Peter, Thank you for clarifying. We unfortunately don't have a walkthrough video available in replacing the mulching wheel. Upon consulting with our tech department, you must have a gear puller tool for this type of job.
The Raptor 900's parts can be purchased here: external link
• You need to undo the bolts shown in Photo 1 with the red arrows pointed at them. • Then you need to remove the cover and use an Allen key to remove the bolts based in Photo 2.
To access the said photos, you can go to this link: external link
Let me know if this helps.
Kind regards, Jay
Hey Peter, did you have any success? I've sent you a PM. Also, Michigan, I contacted Edisons and they reckon I need a "specialised tool" - the gear puller tool you speak of - to remove the "wood chipper mulching wheel" (https://www.edisons.com.au/wood-chipper-mulching-wheel-p-chpmwl-9k0). Can you help? I've removed the housing, and the pin down the middle, but can't remove the old mulching wheel off the crankshaft.
Hi Greg, To remove the mulching wheel, you'll need a 3-prong gear puller. You can find one at Supercheap Auto or other local hardware stores near you. Regards, Jim
Hi people's, Jake answered my query and it's great getting an answer quickly as many others take a mind numbingly long time. So, I need to know about a replacement engine, you've sent me a link and I've looked but still not sure about it. You say that there have been changes but everything looks the same, so I'm a bit confused as to why there would be much difference. I've been told that the new engine won't match the existing frame, is this so? Can I call you to talk about it? Thanks!
Hi William, We can confirm that the engine I previously sent is compatible with the Michigan Raptor 900 (CHPCOMMCHA9K0). Please email our customer support team at external link so we can reach out to you to discuss this further and address any concerns you may have. Regards, Jake
Hi, just today my drive shaft broke and I'm seeing that there is no replacement other than buying a new machine or motor. Is this the only solution to my situation? It has been a great machine over the past couple of years especially with the council making green waste chargeable, and it's taken quite a beating. It makes the other machines look a bit pathetic in comparison and my compost really doesn't mind, being able to add that extra nutrition to the garden. So, what to do!!!
Unfortunately the answer is no, when my shaft broke I tried Edison’s at seven hills nsw they are the distributor. Phoned them no reply sent email no reply. Amazon also sells this unit no parts available. Got a neighbour who is a fitter and turner and engineer. In short cheap and nasty product not repairable. Look at Facebook or gumtree for second hand they sell cheap. But you are better buying a machine where parts are available too. Best wishes William hope this was helpful.
Hi William, The crankshaft for the petrol engine is the shaft that drives the chipping wheel. If this has broken a replacement engine will be required as individual internal engine components are unavailable. Engines are sold as complete units as the labour and parts cost to rebuild the engine would outway the replacement motor cost. You can purchase the engine here: external link If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email. Regards, Jake
I need to remove the cutter disc to replace the crankcase gasket I have removed the long bolt going to the crankshaft but I’m unsure what to do next? Any advice would be appreciated regards rob
After removing the cap screw from the center of cutting disc then all you need to do slide the disc off the crankshaft spindle then the crank case cover and seal can be removed
Is the crankshaft tapered where the disc attaches or is it on a spline?
Mine will not budge maybe some heat ?
Hi Robert, Please lubricate down the hole, then use a 3-prong puller to pull on the cutting disc while pushing on the crankshaft. regards, Jane
Hey Robert W, how did you go replacing / removing the wood chipper cutting wheel? Sent you a DM.
I managed to get it apart and replace the seal but when reinstalling it the keyway slipped and it damaged the new seal

Hi Gazh, tried to reach out to The importer. Edisons (2K) Home improvement store in Seven Hills, New South Wales ‧ Closed waste your time phoned no reply , tried to get parts on web site . Not available. Amazon sell these products try them, I could not find parts there either. My advise is go on Facebook and buy there almost new sold for a fraction of price. But you are throwing good after bad. The company only wants to appear to want to help in reality they do not care. Good luck. Want a good product at paramount browns hardware in South Australia parts available at good price they answer the phone and very helpful. Wish you well.
Thanks for the info Anthony. Will follow your advice.
Had a similar experience with the drive shaft breaking after about 8 times use over 2 years. Replacement of engine only solution according to supplier. Could replace this my self if had the item but not available. If this is a common problem then should provide a replacement option.
Hi Mark, You can access the product manual of the Michigan Raptor 900 with this link: external link If you need further technical assistance, feel free to reach us here: external link Regards, Jay
the manual does not cover replacing teh drive shaft even if you could purchase it
Hi there Mark,
Please note that the shaft comes with the engine, we can't only replace the shaft, will have to replace the whole engine.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Mitch

The engine is leaking oil & it is about 5 years old. It is not being used regular. Where can I service the machine?
I meant it has been a great machine. It did do a lot of workout over the 5 years period. It worths the money I spent no question.
Hi Timothy, Thanks for your question. We do offer aftersales repair services for products outside of warranty. Please contact us at support@edisons.com.au with your order details and our staff can assist further. Regards, Laura
What is the preferred oil for a Raptor 900?. What do I ask for?.
Hi there, Thank you for your enquiry. 10w-30 is the recommended oil type for general use. You may find a viscosity chart in the product manual or a sticker on the product which lists a couple of different types of oil, this is dependant on the ambient temperature. You will find this in most small engine manufacturers' manuals.
Hope this helps!

I can't say I needed to know it broke the Drive Shaft before I needed to change the oil.
Is there an easy way to change/sharpen the chipper blades..?
Hi there Mr. Rioso, We have forwarded your technical query to our in-house technician. We regret to inform you unfortunately the is no quick and easy way to do this. They need to dismantle the chipper section to access the blades.
Hope this helps!
Warm Regards
Edisons Team

Have to return the mulcher due to a faulty part but don’t know how to empty the fuel tank and oil before packaging. Easy ways to do this please. Not mechanical at all. Margaret
Hi there, We strive to provide an excellent customer experience. You either tip the unit over and pour it out the filler hole or remove the fuel line from the carburettor and drain it out the hose.
