Miele W1 WKH Series Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi I have just replaced my third lot of ultra phase 1&2. The machine is saying twindos is empty. This also happened the second time I replaced the cartridges but I had an electrician here who seemed to fix it. Twindos is lit up but not giving me the option of colours or whites. I have removed and reinserted the cartridges. What am I doing wrong ? Please can someone help? Thanks
Why the twindos not working
Getting "Twin Dos maintenance required to start now" message, but cannot get into Settings menu to start clean. Have inserted empty 1 and 2 containers
Hi, We have one of these machines and we want to remove the hoses so that we can get them through the tube hole. At the tap end there are big sort of filter things that are approximately 75mm x 120mm x 20mm
Hi Greg, The "big sort of filter things"to which you refer are solenoids. These are an integral and important part of the machine. You should not try to remove them. They control the water flow into your machine and should there be a problem with water overflow these solenoids will immediately stop the water into your machine to prevent flooding into the laundry. Hope this helps but I repeat - do not try and remove the solenoids. Regards Miz MK
Why risk advice from the public rather than ask the company?
I purchased one last year, it seems to wash the life out of the clothes. They come out and dry so hard, even if I use a fabric softener. I mainly wash on quick wash now to try to reduce the hardness. Wondering why this is the case with this machine?
Hi Twindos Maintenance lights up but the arrows do not I am unable to continue, machine 5 months old, is there an easy fix? Susie
Twindos Maintenance lights up but the arrows dont I am unable to proceed only 5 months old Dave
What does fault code F0212 mean?
Twindos alert keeps coming on to run a maintenance programme. To which I have done already. My washing doesn't smell nice as if the twindos is not dispensing. any ideas?
Hi Louise, thank you for your question. The TwinDos maintenance must be conducted with filled containers. It can also be done with empty containers filled with water, see user manual. Otherwise a service call may be required to fix this error.
Also is it possible the alert is related to a Hygiene info error message? In order to prevent bacteria and unpleasant odours building up in the machine, run the Clean Machine programme using a Miele recommended cleaner or small amount of washing machine powder. Drum must be empty for this maintenance run, see user manual. Periodically using a programme with a 90degC setting is also a good way to clean the drum and stop any smells.

I have no idea what the "twin dos" is about, nor the "cartridges" be they 1 or 2. None of this was ever explained to me and the 98 pages of instructions in tiny print don't help me either. I did receive a package at some point that I think may hold cartridges -- who knows? I can't see a description but it is blown up like a ready-to-burst-any-second balloon and I'm not about to even try and pierce it and have it explode whatever is in it. They might even be for the dish washing machine, the one that demands salt every time it's turned on, and rinse aid, and has a self opening door that is a nightmare to get free of its lock with arthritic hands. The dryer has its own ideas and isn't the kind that stops when the clothes are dry. It concerns me a little also that after seceral months of use, the drawer that evaporated water ahouod collect in is always bone dry. Also, when drying sheets or worse, a doona, they just roll into tight sausage rolls. A bit of a hassle to unroll when the dryer has finished and the outside is crackle-dry but the centre od the roll is, of course, still wet. Only had that problem with one other brand which acknowledged it was a fault in the model and tried to fix it with a fiddle to the computer to get the drum to turn in both directions instead of just one. It ended up in the dump. The Miele dryer is okay for smaller items but not sheets and quilts or covers and turns mostly in one direction with them, which of course rolls them up.
When you replace the cartridges do you need to reset the twin dos or does it do it automatically.
Regards,
Matt

Hey there, I am having an issue with the maintenance cycle of twindos for compartment 1. In accordance to the instructions, I have filled a container with water, but it keeps saying "insufficient cleaning agent". I tried filling it partially, filling it to the top, restarted the process at least 10 times - still the same message. Meanwhile it went smoothly with compartment 2 from the very first try. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi, we are unable to answer this question. Please contact us on 1300 464 353 or book a service call using external link . Kind regards, Joel.
Was this resolved? I am having the same issue now (using containers filled with water).
Hi, I had to request a visit from a Miele ingeneer and he managed to clear the error. Interestingly, there was no actual issue, the pipe was not clogged as it was initially suggested by their support.
Yea, it's always amazing how we must manage while waiting for a repairman, who may say he's coming on a day you simply cannot wait at home for them, and what you're supposed to do in the meantime. Washing the dishes by hand isn't too bad; drying clothes over chairs etc. takes a while; but trying to do laundry in the kitchen sink or bath tub ... seriously Not Good.
I have water leaking out of both hose brass connections any suggestions

The water inlet filters may need to be cleaned. Page 48 miele operating instructions washing machine manual.
I wash only whites on the Delicates cycle. The DOS soap dispenser will not let me select whites only even though I have both canisters and they are about 25% full

I don’t receive a message telling me the DOS is empty
There is no message letting me know when the dos is low or empty
Are the bottles near empty? if not and its been a while since using them, are you actually selecting twindos with every wash as this is not automatic. are rookie error so many people make haha
Hi, I use twin dos 99% of the time. The service guy said I’d get a message once the container where near empty. The machine has never given that information from new I was washing with empty containers until I realised.
Hi Jeff, thanks for your question. Unfortunately we are not able to determine the issue regarding this. If you ever removed a partially-used container and then re-inserted it, the machine will assume it is a new full container. If the container was 60% full, then when it ultimately goes empty, the machine will think it is 40% full. You can go to "more programs," "system," "TwinDos," "levels" to determine what the machine thinks remains in each container. If the levels show you have detergent remaining but you know you do not, this is what has happened. You can correct the levels, but only using the Miele app. The machine should be set on "mobile control" (you will need to hit "ok," and after the correction, you will need to hit "cancel"). In the app, select the washing machine and select the tab "consumables." Then adjust the levels to what you see in the container.
My WKH 132 WPS machine is only 4 months old. I am having trouble with smelly clothes especially when using the cotton cycle with Twin Dos. . The only program which washes satisfactorily is Quick Power Wash but this limits load to lightly soiled garments up-to 5 kg only. I believe the problem is the TwinDos product. Has anyone else experienced this issue. Service Tech fine-tuned some settings however problem remains of smelly clothes at end of wash cycle or smell present after first use especially towels.
Hi Sandi, thanks for your question. Unfortunately we are not able to determine the issue regarding this. If you can please book a service call using external link or if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call us on 1300 464 353. Kind regards, Anna.
Hi Anna, seeking feedback from other consumers at this stage as service support unable to resolved original issue.
the temperature of the water has to do with getting bad smells too. in Australia there is a very old school mentality where everything is washed in cold water to avoid shrinkage, if youre able to wash the clothes on either a cottons or powerwash cycle, or any cycle that doesn't have the handwash symbol, then they can take a warmer temperature. id recommend 40 degree washes for pretty much anything that isn't a dekicate item. 40 degrees is barely warm and wont damage clothes but warm enough to eliminate unwanted smells. think about having a shower in cold water only forever and that's how youre washing your clothes. other alternative is that you may need to adjust the dosage of your twindos, and give the machine a descale and a clean on 90 degrees at least once a month as gunk tends to collect in the pipework and around the drum in places you cant see. hope that helps a bit;
Thanks for your comprehensive response. Much appreciated
Hi Sandi, having the same issue! Happened within the first couple months because I was using too many cold washes. Advised it was a build up of detergent in the machine. The factory settings for twindos are set for European grey water and needs to be lowered a lot. You can do this yourself, ask Miele what they should be set at. I’ve done 3 intensive cleans and even more 90 degree loads to remedy it. I’ve had two service calls now and have been meticulously following their advice. Last call out was 3 weeks ago and I’ve just had another smelly load. I notice it on twindos loads and when I wash my fuller dark loads which are generally more soiled. However, I never overfill the machine, we are only a family of three and that particular load I chose the longer 3 hr wash. My husbands works in an office so our washing isn’t overly soiled or anything. Their advice was - one empty 90 degree wash every month - cottons on 40 degrees - towels and bedding on 60 degrees (make sure you’re not choosing eco 60 degrees) - clean filters every month - clean twindos minimum every month (I think he said every 12 loads) for this you need empty cannisters - if using your own detergent, reduce amount to roughly a table spoon or less - keep door open - clean seals after each wash. Seems like a lot of work to have clean laundry. My mum and sisters both have front loaders and have never had this issue nor do they need to anything special to maintain it. Has any other consumers had this issue? Miele, what can you suggest in my case?! So frustrating! Please let me know how you go Sandi!
Hi Hannah, I share your frustration with a top shelf machine that requires so much support to simply clean clothes. I have resorted back to shorter cycles with smaller loads, regular detergents and fabric softeners which eliminates 'smelly wash' however I am concerned it will cause more maintenance issues in time. Very disappointed in the Miele machine so far.
I cannot turn off/deselect the "Programme Manager" button when I run the Cotton program. The light stays on and one of the options has to be selected when I don't want any of them. Is there a reset/factory reset option I can use?
Hi Naomi, you shouldn’t have to select/deselect the program manager each time, I would advise a service call. If you can please book a service call using external link or if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call us on 1300 464 353. Kind regards, Anna.
Why am I getting "Twin Dos maintenance" message every time I start a wash? I have never used twin dos liquid compartment, I manually use washing liquid and this message started displaying after the machine was one week old. I do not have any cartridges in the twin dos compartment and can not find anywhere to turn this message off, the only way is clicking through the arrows every time (very inconvenient). Has anyone else had this problem? and is there some setting I can turn on so the machine knows that I am not using the twin dos?
Hi there, during the commissioning for the machine the twin dos would have had to be set up, after that and regardless of the twin dos system being used after that point it requires the maintenance to be carried out at the regular intervals as determined by the software. It’s in the problem-solving section of the manual. You can find the manual for your product online here external link . Kind regards, Anna.
Thanks for that Anna, it's a shame that Miele don't offer the canisters for free then if you have no choice but to use them to stop the warning. I have just outlaid another $70 on empty canister to push water through the pipes I don't use to avoid this warning from coming up every time I wash.
Our W1 washer let’s you start a wash cycle but after about 2 mins stops and call service appears on the screen .
Hi Warwick, thanks for your question. Unfortunately we are not able to determine the issue regarding your washing machine. If you can please book a service call using external link or if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call us on 1300 464 353. Kind regards, Anna
My twin dos machine has stopped notifying me when I am low on detergent so I am constantly having to open hatch to check, I have run a maintenance clean & also cleaned where cartridges slot in but this hasn’t helped, when I spoke to meile I was told I could get charged for them to call out even though my machine is still under warranty. Has anybody else had this issue or knows how to sort it please?
Hi there, the prompt message informing you that the detergents, UltraPhase ‘1’ or ‘2’ can be interrupted by checking or replacing any of the cartridges whilst the W/M is turned ‘Off’. Each time a cartridge is removed the counter for monitoring the number of uses with each wash cycle is reset. If a cartridge is pulled out, and not replaced nor refilled, this counting is then out of sequence. Consequently, containers will possible runout before the ‘Container 1 or 2 almost empty’ and the ‘Container empty’ message are displayed. If you still need assistance, I'd recommend visiting your local Miele Experience Centre where our staff can assist you, please find locations here external link . Kind regards, Anna.
