Try a Ryobi dealer or outlet

Hi my electric ryobi whipper snipper has all of a sudden decided to unravel and twist around the head of the drive shaft as soon as I start to snip the grass. Do I need a new head as it has not happened before. I rewound the cord 3 times and it happened each time. Does anyone have a suggestion? thanks Rob

Are you winding the cord on the right way??? If you are, I would recommend either get a new head unit if you like that type but I changed mine to a "Littl' Juey" - external link  Please note: I have no connection with this company

I find this a easy and quicker way to replace cord, which makes the job around my place - so easy to do without frustration.

No further information to what Rawleigh has suggested.

Stopped.............all wiring seems ok......could this be the switch assembly inside the unit???

Yes mate, it could be the switch. Depending on its age and amount of use, the motor could need new brushes. Unless you are handy sort of bloke, checking could be a mission for you. I think you will need a set of torques screwdrivers to undo the security screws [they have a pin in the centre of the screw head] the unit is assembled with.

These are available from Bunnings.

As the machine is a piece of rubbish in my view, mine went into the bin eventually.

Good luck

How to insert line into head of snipper?

NickRichardson

Cut a strip of line long enough to fit both top and bottom reels. One piece only. Just take the cover off and thread line though holes in the dispenser - soemtimes holes fill with dirt so check - until equal both sides. Thread each end through a dispensing hole in the outer case and refit holder. Pull line all the way out of dispensing holes and then rewind back pressing down as you turn. When back to a few inches , replace lid and away you go.,

I don't know I'm afraid, however to be fair, Ryobi tried to solve my criticisms by offering a new trimmer head where one cuts two lengths of trimmer line and feeds them into dedicated holes and a spring loaded jaw holds the line in place with a length protruding out.

Unfortunately, the jaws don't hold the line well enough and when you use the machine the line excapes when it meets resistance and once again the trimmer is rendered useless.

Disgusted, I did not follow up this new disaster but I should have persued it more and perhaps ask for my money back.

I have given up trying to use it and it simply takes up space in the garden shed.

I shake my head each time I see it and think of the money that I could have spent more wisely

It is a total waste of money. In my view do not under any circumstance purchase this particular Ryobi model.

Look at other models and brands,

Graeme

Hi Mel, I'm afraid the only way to tell that would be to sight both of the products, or ask a specialist. I would suggest going and having a look at Bunnings, but the reliability of the information you get there varies wildly.

I personally got a couple of attachments that let me use the machine as a blower and a pruner and stopped bothering with the edging aspect. For that I went and bought a Honda petrol line trimmer. Cost easily more than the Ryobi but do it once, do it right.
