Smeg PSA906-4 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: 35903049Hi, we moved to our unit last year and have had ongoing problems with our 5 burner Smeg gas cooktop with fish burner in the middle. The unit is approximately 12 years old. A Smeg service man managed to get all 5 burners to operate but we cannot get any of the burners to light without some degree of difficulty. The cookers will not stay lit and the service man said the thermocouple igniters were working correctly. What are our options?
Hi i had a Smeg oven and gas cooktop installed in my new house in 2020. The stainless steel shelf inside the oven started rusting very early on and now it looks horrible. Is that even supposed to happen? In my gas cooktop the big burner has flames leaking under it. My burner is very clean and has no blocks. What do i do?

The black grates on my Smeg cooktop are looking very worn and grey in appearance. I would like to restore their black colour. Rubbing with oil does not improve them. Is there a heat resistant paint that I can use?
Dear Maureen, Thanks for your enquiry. There are some products you can use to restore the colour of the trivetts. You can try this external link Regards Smeg
Hi, I have a Smeg Victoria that I am very happy with. I have had it about 3 years, but only this week wanted to use the dual burner in the centre. The outside gas lights, but the inner one doesn't. It sparks but doesn't light. It is clean and doesn't seem to be obstructed by anything. Have I missed something in how to light it? I've checked the manual, but no idea! Help appreciated!
I have the 900 free standing Smeg oven from Harvey Norman it’s 16 months old My burners have gone Horid all chrome seems to have disappeared from cleaning Came on site for remedy but seems this is a big problem with Smeg burners thought I was paying for quality Can I paint surround with a chrome paint? Or oven black, What can I do? Autosol does not bring back the chrome finish & they make the stove look like a dirty old 40 year old stove
Decided I would put my cooktop gas grill and burners in dishwasher and they have come out all discoloured and the chrome finish gone.. is there something I can do to bring them back to life? I’m now guessing they were not dishwasher safe =S
Dear Tim L, Unfortunately, these items are not dishwasher safe. You can try a product called Autosol metal polish, which may help restore the shine. Regards Smeg
Ok awesome. Thank you
Hi I purchased a black smeg Kettle off takealot . Whilst moving I noticed some scratched not too deep though. It's barely visible but I know it's there . Any way i could touch up the scratch ?

I have my smog gas cooktop for 1 mth. The skirts stained quite quickly so I soaked them in dishwashing liquid and hot water. Now they are completely black. What has happened? I am so upset, I thought stainless steel was a hardy material. Maybe the quality isn't that good?
I have a Smeg 60cm gas cooktop and am having trouble igniting some of the gas jets - how can I clean the gas jets so they work efficiently?
Dear John, Thanks for your enquiry. Please contact our technical team on 02 8667 4888 and they will be able to assist you. Regards Smeg
I purchased a Smeg ‘gas on glass’ for our new kitchen which we had installed in March. From day one the steel skirts below the burners have proved extremely difficult to clean. They seem to get brown spots/ marks even when there has been no obvious spillage. I have tried wiping the rings while still warm but this doesn’t seem to work. I have bought a non scratch ‘scourer’ and can stand for a full few minutes on each steel skirt trying to get these tiny brown spots off. I’m extremely disappointed. I love my new Victoria oven but feel that second rate steel must be used in the stove rings. Smeg used to mean quality. Has anyone found a solution ?
Hi We have a smeg has cook top and the wok burner flame is coming out underneath burner and around side the flame is to big. I have cleaned all holes so there is no blockages but it’s still doing it and it’s a little scary.
We are having the exact same problem. Smeg - what should we do??
Dear Nallac56, Please contact our technical support team on 02 8667 4888 and they will be able to assist you. Regards Smeg
I’ve purchased a brand new home and it has a 90cm stainless steel cook top. After cooking for only two weeks , the stainless steel burner skirt has brown stains on it even though I’ve been extremely careful with spillages . I tried to use a soft cloth and baking soda and hot water to scrub it just doesn’t come off. The only thing that came off it’d be the shiny part of the burner skirt . Now I’ve got a dull burner skirt with all other 4 being shiny :( can someone pls advise? We are based in Melbourne .
Hi Ang S, sorry to disappoint you but I have moved into a brand new home 3 years ago and had exactly the same problem with our Smeg cooktop. I have tried everything possible To remove the stains, and nothing has worked, and very soon I ended up with dull burners too. Once I reached out to Smeg, to their credit - they did send new burners straight away. As you would assume, I was extremely cautious with those still thinking it would have somehow been my mistake what happened to previous ones - but within a month exactly the same happened. My solution is definitely NO Smeg stainless steel cooktop next time. For the price we pay for their Appliances, and the quality their brand carries, this experience was extremely disappointing.
Hi Maja, there’s really sad. I’m still figuring out how did these burn brownish marks get on the skirts? What a shame ! How did you get the skirts replace ? I would definitely like them to do it for free :( we’ve only used it for less than 10 times !
Dear Ang S, I am the National l Service Manager for Smeg and I would like to assist with this problem, could you please email me direct at steve.cullen@smeg.com.au with your address, telephone contact details and also if you can scan me a photograph of the burners. Once I have this information I will be in a position to ascertain what to do to fix this problem. Regards, Steve Cullen
Dear Ang S. and Maja, The marks you are experiencing is from residue on the base of your cookware. The best way to clean the burner skirts is with a non-scratch scourer and Jif or Gumption. Afterwards to restore the shine we recommend Autosol metal polish. We recommend this cleaning process for all gas cooktops. Regards Smeg
Same here I've purchased a new home with the 90cm free standing cooker and have the same problem. It's not even 3 weeks that I have moved into the house and the stainless steel burner skirt has already gone dull and I am extremely upset about this. As advised after cooking, Smeg suggest to clean with warm soapy water. I did the same and the brown marks did not come off but the only thing that changed is the discolouration of the burner skirt with black spots on. I then contacted Smeg and they send a technician out who suggested I should be using Hillmark Heavy Duty Stainless steel cleaner. This just made it worse and now it has lost all its shine and looks worse and dull. Extremely disappointed with the quality of the product. The product does not stand by its name in the market. I would not recommend this product.
I have exactly the same problem with my Smeg Victorian 900. We replaced the freestanding oven that came with our brand new house, we wanted quality. We are very disappointed in the quality. The oven and rangehood was $8,000 and the quality and appearance of the burners completely ruin the look of the set.

Some butter spilled on my ceramic cooktop. Now there is a stain that won’t go away. The appliance is only a week old and was so expensive. How do I remove it? Do scrapers actually work?
Hi Hanna. Thank you for your enquiry. We would suggest you purchase a product used cerapol, found at your supermarket along with a scraper. If you need any further assistance , can you please contact us direct? Our email address is service@smeg.com.au - Kind Regards, Smeg Australia.
Hi. Thanks for the quick response. Will purchase these products tomorrow. Hopefully they will clean it up.
Hi Lesley. Those products worked beautifully. Many thanks.
Hi Hanna. Thank you for letting us know - it is a great product and I am glad that you are happy with the results. Kind Regards, Smeg Australia.
Can I use vinegar solution to clean the crowns on my Smeg freestanding has cooktop?
Am planning on purchasing a black SMEG classic ssa91maa9. I’m being advised against purchasing a black as it would show scratches easily as well as smudges. Would love feedback on that finish.
Cleaned the burners with baking soda and now dull. How do you return shine to burners.
Hi Anne 44, Could you please email info@smeg.com.au and we will forward you our cleaning guide for the gas burners. Regards Smeg
How should we clean the smog cooktop? The steel skirting around the black disc especially which has hot brown stains. When my husband sprayed the Bam on it..it lost the shine and the stains didnt come off
Hello! My Smeg stainless steel cook top has been cleaned with a scourer and thus is very scratched now. Is there any way we can remove the scratches? If i contain Smeg distributor in my country, will they be able to provide me with a solution or work it out for me? Thanks
Dear Remi, I would say that you would need to replace the actual top of the appliance as you would not be able to remove the scratches, therefore you should contact your local Smeg office.
