Alpine
paid a lot of money for something that does not perform. basically it freezers a lot. i wish i bought a mid priced one now i am stuck with a $2,000 unreliable product. it just keeps freezing so fustrating. don't buy one. bought it mid 2024.
Head unit of Alpine LC70X902D is amazing! – I love this alpine head unit. Got assembled in my Toyota land cruiser 70 series. I will definitely recommend this store for future purchases. Quality of this alpine product is very good.
OK – The unit itself is great. Alpine local support is not. If you're handy, buy it overseas for less than 50% local price and self install. Great iPod… Read more
interface, surprisingly powerful amplifier section, touch screen is reliable and legible in most light conditions. Poor quality installation by Alpine installer (broken clips, trim, incorrect wire routing), rear view camera useless 90% of time (glares out, no contrast), Blue Tooth module has failed to work since Day 1 - back numerous times.
No nav option.
Excellent Audio, Minimal Video – I love alpine audio, in my opinion, alpine has the best sound of any of the main brands. I specifically chose this unit to integrate with a PXA-H800… Read more
audio processor.
For sound quality, I can't fault it.
It also has an excellent build quality, all the buttons feel solid, and the volume button is great.
The main problem with the unit is the software.
Here you have this big screen, and the software doesn't utilize it one bit.
There is so much space to write song names, list artists, albums etc.. yet they make the font size so large and position it so that you can barely see what is playing (it ends up scrolling)
When browsing through tracks, again, the font size is so large you can't see which is which.
If you have 5 variations of a song, it will cut off the end so you can't tell.
eg:
some long song name (...
some long song name (...
some long song name (...
The other thing is, it isn't necessary to go all out showing yourself off like a cheap unit does, but a simple visualization when the song is playing, or letting you customize the background and startup images would go a long way to making me appreciate this unit.
The other thing that annoys me to no end is there's NO play/pause button.
So, if you're playing a song and you want to pause it, you have to open up the screen, and click the software play/pause button.
That just sucks.
The volume knob on the front can be pressed, yet it doesn't do anything when the display is folded in, why not make it play/pause?
I know you can mute it, but I don't want my song playing in the background.
(i've never understood why mute is more important than pause, only for radio can I see that it helps)
Also, if anyone has a workaround for this, i'd love to know.
Finally, bluetooth...
I've given up trying to get bluetooth to work properly with alpine devices...
I've tried with an iphone 3, 3g, 4s and 5.
I've had a cda-9887 with the parrot 300bt
then i was told that had issues, so I bought the parrot 400bt (still no luck)
then I bought this unit with another 400bt (I lost the original cable to the first one)
And i updated the firmware on everything and I STILL have issues.
it works for a while, then it says something like "no bt unit" or the iphone just won't connect.
I've spent thousands of dollars now, and it still doesn't work.
This could ALL be fixed if Alpine did a software update, yet I extremely doubt they ever will.
I'd really like to see alpine bring out an android version of this (not android on win ce).
Then you'd have awesome sound with an awesome UI. Excellent Audio, Great build quality Bluetooth is flaky, bad user interface, not customisable.
Very poor product and poor (no) service – Don't ever buy alpine!!!!! Have car full older (not ancient) alpine stuff and has always been good. But the new alpine products are very poorly… Read more
built and put together. Many many reviews of people with new alpine subs that blown up and I know why. I just bought a new alpine type r and the actual speaker is pushed over to one side of the basket, alot of people don't notice this and if you don't notice this and use the sub the way it is the coil will be on an angle and that means the bottom of the coil will rub on the inside of the motor sleeve and get hot and eventually burn out sooner than later unless you are a pansy and also an imbecile and didn't notice the poor quality and send it back for a refund like I did. The only good thing was that the dealer I bought mine from was willing to give refund. But alpine was not willing to send another subwoofer out. Alpine is a rip off joke. DO NOT BUY unless you like Russian roulette with your hard earned money. Spend a bit more and buy a rockfords forsgate power t2 subwoofer, these are way better and more powerful and they hit like a much bigger sub. When comparing the forsgate 12 you need to compare with alpine 15 inch pretty much.
Excellent – I installed these in the front door panels of a Holden Rodeo. I still have the original gutless factory stereo but it now sounds about 300% better.… Read more
Was going to upgrade the stereo as well but I can now postpone that as it is sounding listenable. Good base, good top end clarity, easy to install. Great value. Dont test connect until you are ready to install, once the lugs are pushed on they're there for keeps.
Minimal instructions tho' they're straightforward to install.
Great Unit – Seek out professionals that know what they are doing and you won't regret it. I have a Skoda Superb wagon and can't be more pleased with the end… Read more
result. The unit looks great in the car and I am so happy I went with this than with other units on the market. Word of advice: Seek out professionals to get the tricky jobs done!! navi, screen, sound, awesome, 3 year map upgrades expensive
Good – I've had mine about 18 months running a pair of splits and a sub. Very happy with it and do not even know it is there (visually). Provides the Focal… Read more
splits and Image Dynamics 10" sub with enough clean power to keep me happy. If you need a small (dimension) amp and can afford it, just do it. Very compact - easy to fit under the seat. Reliable. Looks good (if you want to display it). Quite pricey for it's class.
Good product – Had this amp for a few months now, has performed flawlessly. Has good power output and great control over the sub, much better than my previous amp.… Read more
The only things I can whinge about is the RUX Knob should come standard, paying $65(AU) for a potentiometer in a tiny metal box with a phone cord is ludicrous!!! And like 99% of amps the SMT pots are friggan useless crap!
Terrible – the alpine KCE 300BT will not let you transfere data or use the head unit completely hands free when using a Nokia E51 phone. easy to set up. is not completely compatable with some of the latest Nokia phones.
Excellent 6 1/2" Component Speakers – The R-Series Speakers (previously called Type R) from Alpine are the go-to speakers for most of the installs that I have done, they are a good… Read more
balance between price and performance. Alpine do make better speakers (the X-Series), but the price more than doubles for equivalent sized speakers - unfortunately for the X-Series, the performance does not double.
The mid woofers can handle most types of music, and they will take 100 Watts RMS, for those who don't know what that number means in the real world, it means LOUD. Being loud doesn't matter if it sounds like mud, but the material that the speaker cone is made out of allows it to reproduce both high and low frequencies without distortion. Having said that, I use these speakers more for mids, rather than for mid-bass - but they do mids so very well.
The tweeters are great, but unfortunately they are not fantastic. It's always hard to describe sounds with words, but the best way that I can describe it is that these tweeters make a "sssss sssss sssss" sound, instead of a "tisss tisss tisss" sound. You can't really notice the difference unless you have heard better quality tweeters, but once you have, you will always notice the difference.
Overall, these speakers have a great doof per dollar ratio, and they will do most things for most people most of the time.
Dope – Loved them, they are incredible quality and pump hard, truly a sick set ofspeakers y u h bo i i i i i i i i iii i i i
