We initially contacted MSC Electricians for an emergency electrical call-out and engaged them to carry out extensive electrical work at our property.… Read more
We paid a significant amount, believing the work had been completed safely, professionally and in accordance with Australian electrical standards and code. Approximately three years later, another electrical fault occurred. A different licensed electrician inspected the installation and advised that the previous work had not been completed correctly or in compliance with the required electrical standards. The old cotton-insulated wiring had been left in place and connected to the new switchboard wiring instead of being properly replaced or rectified. This resulted in sparking and created a serious electrical safety hazard for the tenants living in the property. The quote from the new electrician is approximately the same as the amount we originally paid to MSC Electricians. The entire switchboard now needs to be replaced, along with all wiring from the mains supply to the switchboard, to ensure the electrical installation is safe and compliant. While I am extremely disappointed that this work has had to be redone at considerable expense, I am relieved knowing that the tenants will finally be safe from any further electrical hazards once the replacement work is completed. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend MSC Electricians. Rate of experience is negative infinity. The work was very expensive, yet it has now required substantial rectification. Safety should never be compromised, particularly when it places tenants and property at risk.

On the 1st March 2023 I was advised that two investment properties that I own received fault notices following their recent Bi-Annual Gas Safety Check. In the past Gas appliances were mainly tested for Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions. The gas Safety Check now includes negative pressure test that uses a portable smoke generator to observe if any smoke is drawn into the gas appliance.
Not all plumbers registered/licensed to install gas appliances are also licensed to perform Gas Safety Checks. These Bi-Annual Gas Safety Checks are important and only apply to rental properties (as do the Annual Smoke Detector Checks). The two fault notices one because of a cracked Braemar (less than 10 years old) Wall Furnace and the second Braemar (20 years cold) wall furnace because of a negative pressure test result. The quote to replace these two units will cost me in excess of $7000.00 as it is not viable to repair either Braemar Wall Furnace.
Any Gas appliance that receives a negative pressure test result or other defect such as cracked heat exchanger is immediately decommissioned (gas turned off). In additional, a 30 day notice/demand to replace the gas appliance or remove it completely and have the gas capped (permanently disconnected).
I contacted Spruce Electrical Pty Ltd to organise the removal the Wall furnaces and replace with a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Split air conditioning system that in the short term and in the long run will be more cost effective.
My gas upright cooker was also faulted (poor oven door seal and gas top burners deemed unserviceable) so I have booked Spruce Electrical Pty Ltd to replace the gas cooker with an electric upright cooker. Total cost to disconnect, cap the gas, remove old cooker and, supply a Chef Fan Forced electric upright cooker, install the cooker, wire new circuit to switchboard and test new stove is $1,700.00 Once again, I highly recommend Spruce Electrical Pty Ltd for all Electrical installations (new installation or replacement of air conditioners and replacement of gas stoves with an electric stove). Spruce Electrical Pty Ltd work hand in hand with an excellent, professional and, competitive licensed plumber. All aspects of the conversion from gas to Electricity are professionally organised by Spruce Electrical Pty Ltd at a very timely and competitive rate.

and there was no roof space to install the wires for a wall mounted control. They rectified the problem by converting my fan to a remote control unit (they carry these remote control units for such problems). The control was extra, but no more than you'd pay at Bunnings or wherever. Installation only took an hour, including replacing a light switch in the laundry. Overall, quite happy with the completed work, service and reasonable cost.
15 dowlights lights replaced plus outdoor lights. Neat and tidy work with care taken around all furnishings. Most importantly work was done promptly and at a competitive and reasonable rate.

31st October 2023 they serviced our evaporative air conditioner. Both Andrew & Vickie were very pleasant and obliging and we would not hesitate in recommending them to others.

out fee offer, what i didn't know was how they would take advantage by charging 1 and a quarter hours to do the diagnosis, (having told him it's been looked at before and is more than likely gone) at $160 per hour to bring it neatly to $200 plus GST $20 and then 2 days to hear anything to bring the problem up to Friday afternoon and the tenant having no stove for the weekend and me scrambling to get one there and fitted ASAP. I checked with multiple sources regarding the validity of the time spent and most agreed 15 miutes at least to up to 45 minutes if all the wiring needed looking at, contacting Fair services was of no help as it take about 11 weeks to have the case heard by an adjudicator so they are of little help. Needless to say this is one firm that can not bet relied on or trusted, and i would have been happy had he just fixed the issue and sent the bill rather than have the double dipping happening. would rather have not had to take this action.
Think twice before using these guys – Good Guys gave me a good price on an electric oven and what I thought was a good price on the install. HOWEVER, their electrician (MIG Electrical)… Read more
wanted extra saying he had to change the electrical board and run a new cable (4 Metres long). I understand the need for the new cable and RCD, but "extra" cost of $780 for this work, considering they never actually changed the electrical board, I find extreme, since I had already paid $344 to the Good Guys for the install. This means that to fit a wall oven and remove the old one MIG Electrical got a total of $1124 for the install! All up around 1 hours work and $70 for parts if that.
Seems like a rip off with the Good Guys taking money for the install and then their electrician MIG Electrical upping the charge with the customer!

up for four hours on the first day and changed over most of the points & switches, cut a hole for the new power point and removed the light fittings (to allow for the ceiling to be painted). Was on site for 3.5 hours, but left for 15 minutes each hour to feed a parking meter. Didn't return to complete the job, disappearing for over a month - leaving 5 light fittings hanging from the ceiling (got another sparky to come and install the new fittings and finish the power point installation). Finally made contact to come and finish the installation of two power points that needed to be ordered in - yet were freely available from several wholesalers as the internet proved. When the invoice arrived the charges included 4.5 hours of labour - plus parking fees that had never been discussed or agreed to (no discount for the 45+ minutes where there was no labour). Each of the points & switches had also been marked up by a minimum of 100%, based on a quick internet search of retail price points. There are better sparky's out there that don't have money grabbing approach this one does.

exacting standards of our builder; and even more so as this would be a custom build that cost us accordingly.
Unfortunately that was not the case when it came to the electrical side of things.
Key points that we experienced : - upon 2 or so walk throughs with the electrician he did not take notes etc re my instructions regarding changes etc - my builder advised that the electrician does not provide a finalised plan. We did receive a hand scribbled plan after I insisted. However, I did not scrutinise it and unfortunately that was to our detriment. - when it comes to lighting, more is better. I stuck to my guns with some areas but regretably heeded the advice from our so called expert eg, in our oversized garage, which I now regret. - two way light switches did not eventuate. Whilst one has been retro fitted another is not possible. - light switch installed in the most inconvenient position with no prior consultation with us. (Retrofit was gratefully offered by our builder however did not resolve the situation.) - the only real advice I received involved saving some money by installing less premium switches in the garage and installing less lights. I would have preferred some actual constructive advice suggesting more lights be installed along the 22 steps of our sloping side passage. - instead of installing more light on our sloping side passage (access to rear yard) as stipulated our dead end side passage had more lights installed. - the electrician rang me one day and explained he was installing a bar light same as ours and asked me to measure it for him rather than he find out via other means. Really. - my overall impression was the the electrician was more focussed on personal matters and did not give our project the attention it required resulting in a less than satisfactory outcome for our build.
They are back today to rectify a missed two way switch which I am grateful for.
These may be considered minor issues arising by my lack of diligence by many but we specifically engaged a custom builder at considerable cost and have been let down by a less than diligent electrician.
Whilst we would engage our builder (SCF Custom Builders) ten times over, it would be on the proviso that W and J Green was NOT the electrician engaged.
